Looking for a sandbox mmo.

BulisBulis Member Posts: 2

This might be a rather new request, I don't know but I'm looking for a sandbox game where you set out and can create your own villages etc, craft items out of raw material that you collect, that kind of game.

Before you post, I am alreay familiar with two titles:

Roma Victor

Wurm Online

I want something different, not those games, I would be playing roma if there population was higher.

Here is what I am not looking for:

Darkfall

Age of Conan

World of Warcraft

Runescape

Guild Wars

Star wars galaxies

Thanks for yor help and suggestions.

It seems you haven't set your eyes on EvE Online... Check it out u may not regret it ^^ They got a free trail if u want to test it without commiting yourself.

I recommend you give Saga of Ryzom a trial,

I'm not sure I exactly understand your request, but I believe Tribal Nations is what you are looking for.

Not really what I'm looking for here, I'm more of a medieval or fantasy kind of players, no sci fi.

I will give saga a try and see what it's like.

DId you beta darkfall? If not I wouldnt cast that out just yet, as it is a sandbox, and you can't  truthfully judge it until youve played it.

Anyways other than that I would say give final fantasy xi a try. While it is not a complete sandbox it is the next best thing. It is not quest driven or linear, you cant switch jobs at any point, its group focused, crafting is meaningful. Check out my review of my first ten levels here.

    playing: darkfall
    waiting: earthrise

He says no darkfall, and yet you insist on recommending darkfall. I've seen darkfall recommended for players who request games nothing even remotely like darkfall, just give it up already.

I'm going to second TSoR, it's worth a try.

Unfortunately, Wurm Online seems to be the closest thing out there to what you're looking for.

A Tale in the Desert fits your description quite well.  It has probably the deepest crafting system of any game on the market.  You can build your camp out in the open world, and it's not merely instanced housing.

How are these games doing in terms of population? Tale in the desert & TSOR

    Im quite intrigued

I wasnt trying to be some whiney fanboy because Im not. Im excited to try the game yet Im just as skeptical as most. BUT since it is a new sandbox (which is what he asked for) all I was saying is that he might as well give it a shot UNLESS he has already beta tested it.  Whats wrong with that?

A Tale in the Desert has generally fluctuated between about 1000 and 2000 active, paid accounts.  While that seems small, it's plenty enough to make the game playable.  Unlike a lot of games, those numbers aren't inflated in any artificial way, as you can find for yourself who a large fraction of the accounts are and the time since last login.
