Electronic Gaming Monthly CLOSED! OMG!!

This is HUGE news to me!! No more EGM! What will i read while i'm taking a dumb now? Old game manuals?

EGM was closed on January 6, 2009, following the acquisition of the online element of the 1UP network by Hearst Corporation.

Granted.. The magazine was kinda sucking lately. But to Close!! EGM will be missed by me.

Never heard of it. I pick up a copy of PC gamer now and then, but EGM? What the hell was it?

The website for PC gamer  is godawful, but the mag is pretty good.

I was pretty sad when I heard they were closing, I heard rumors a few weeks ago but EGM has been around for awhile. I guess all companies are feeling the economic pinch right now .

    Gameinformer is still pretty good.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

they would probably make an online magazine for it. instead of printing hardcopies, softcopies will be provided.

Yeah they were a good console magazine back when I was reading them.  I'll miss them too.

I have a sub for PC Gamer so at least I'm good on the PC front.

I used to have a sub for EGM...Seanbaby's column was epic win.

Then when I decided not to renew they sent me threatening mail telling me that they would seek legal action if I didn't pay them for the magazines that I hadn't even recieved yet...strangely, when I just didn't respond, they stopped sending me stuff.

Other than that fiasco, I liked the magazine a lot...PC gamer is good too, but also costs twice as much

Really? Wow that blows. I know EGM been around for a while, yet it's sad that it's going away. I don't think 1UP is all that great in my opinion. That side needs to be a bit more user friendly. I think GameInformer might have taken it's place. GameInformer became a great mag overtime and I remember they had those great blockbuster and gamestop coupons.

It's a sign of the times.

Newspapers and magazines are in financial trouble because people no longer prefer their news in hardcopy, they get most of their news over the internet. Even Playboy is on shakey ground, unable to compete with internet porn. Computer gaming magazines are no exception.

Don't be surprised as more and more daily, weekly, and monthly print dissapears.

This is really sad news. I remember going to the grocery store with my mom and picking a copy up when I was just 7 years old; seeing them go under now really brings back the good memories I had of them...

Back in the day, EGM was THE best and most comprehensive magazine one could get: It was replete with illustrations, HUNDREDS of pages long and had all sorts of editors with varying personalities that added a neat spin to it all (anybody remember Sushi X ?).

Eventually the pages started thinning out and the quality had gone to hell as with everything else nowadays, so I stopped buying it... still it really marks the end of the tangible video game media era (at least for me) .

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

Use to read nothing but EGM in the 90s all the way up to about 5 years ago. Game Informer is just a much better mag IMO. You ought to check it out.  Is unfortunate  that they are no loger printing though I do agree.

The sad thing is PC Gamer is taking on a thinner approach as well.
