You mean let-downs from what we saw before we got in beta or during? Before I got in, the animations let me down and the fighting looked kind of dumb.
However, once I fought (and made use of the ability to use melee/magic/range all in one battle) I found myself loving the combat system.
My only real let-down is the UI (especially the chat-system), would love to see an all-chat or overhead text as an option. The rogue system is somewhat of a letdown, they should just copy UO's alignment system, which I think they will eventually do.
if i had to pick some of the biggest issues i saw during my darkfall beta time... it would have had to be exploitation of game mechanics as well as having a system that promotes it. I noticed all the lore in the game didnt matter since the players for the most part were griefers and or trigger happy ffa pvp players. The lore becomes pointless along with the depth of the game if you are just a target to everything with a player behind it regardless of race. You would think same races would be more friendly to eachother, I saw the exact opposite. Higher skilled players farming the lower skilled ones just so they could sell their gear, purposefully getting hit so that player goes grey in which it means the higher skilled player can take without penalty from the other. Other times the players get in the way of a hit near a guard tower so the noob is killed by their own city. Its basically a griefers play pin and no one i saw gave a rats ass about the lore, backstory, or rpg setting.
Some will hate me for saying this but they should have just made the pvp faction based, which would have fixed most of the exploiting going on. Also the sound is horrible...

Lies......... All lies............. There is no way the DF beta community would be like that.
I have got to play lots more and done lots of exploring. It would probably take me hours to write about all of it. So I will just write about what I did last night. Just a note on exploring, the world is amazing.
Me and 3-4 guildies were all playing together. We almost got into a fight with 4 other guys but the server crashed lol. Anyway, 2 logged off and there were just 3 of us. We were fighting goblins in this one area for a while. We went down lower to where goblin fighters spawned(slightly tougher). We fought there for awhile and then this guy attacked Vertigo, the guild leader, we were farming gold to make a guild btw. So we chased him away and saw a red and we were going to kill them and the server went down again.
So later the server came up and we went back to fighting goblins. The same guy runs by gray(he must of attacked someone else) so we gave chase. I was shooting arrows into him. He was running up a hill and I shot a high arching arrow, probably max distance it can go and hit him. He had gone back to blue just before this so I went gray. He stopped at the top of the hill since he went back to blue thinking we wouldnt' attack him. He was very wrong. The 3 of us killed him quickly and looted some nice armor and a new claymore for one of the other people I was with. This same guy once chased me around for like 5 mins trying to kill me because I pked someone.
Anyway, we waited at the top of the hill until we went back to blue and went down and fought some more. So we went down even lower into a swampish area full of ruins and camped a spot full of goblins variety. Goblins shamans are very hard, but I did get a new staff off them. So while we were fighting this other guy came and stepped in front of me and made me go gray because I hit him. So since I was flagged I started attacking him which suprised him. He ran off and eventually escaped maybe, I don't know because 2 other blues ran in and started chasing him too, they may have killed him lol. By jumping in front of me making me flag, he could kill me without a alignment penalty. I think he learned his lesson, don't try and alignment pk people if you suck at fighting. So anyway, we farmed there for like an hour and a half.
Then this ork in really nice armor came and we decided to run. We probably could have taken him, but we had too much loot to risk it. So we banked it and have almost enough for a guild now. Another 20-30mins of fighting and we can start a guild.
Biggest surprise: PvE is fun, I was actually worried about the goblins seeing me first when I was hunting. I was actually leaning up on the edge of my seat until I realized I was doing it. This and the lack of lag is nice. Probably the great communication by the devs also. I remember I found a bug when kiting a forest golem and started talking about it in global chat and rom4n started talking to me. He really gets around I saw him later and talked to him a bit. It was just so different to go from hardly ever seeing a dev post to having them post daily. And how quickly they fixed bugs was impressive and how fast they responded to player "requests". This may be bad as many whiney players are on the forums crying for carebear stuff.
Biggest letdown: Servers crashed so much the first few days. After that they seemed to be up pretty consistently. Now the biggest letdown would be the empty world and no cooldown on pots and food. These might have been fixed by now though. I remember when I went exploring on my alfar I found empty camps and stuff. I sneaked into a camp and looted a treasure chest and tool box, kinda lost the feel after I realized there were no NPCs there to avoid. Alignment system needs work as well, too easy to become unred.
Something I didn't mention in the email, we fought goblins in the swamp for hours until 4am my time, never once was I bored. I was however very worried the NPCs would kill us or a player would and get our hours of loot.
Surprise: The adrenaline and heart beating while fighting.
Letdown: Some aspect with crafting, no shops and no house building.

just how bloody well-done the world is. have never had such a tingle up my spine as when i ran from elf capital city all the way to the dwarf capital to the jungle content Yssam. sunsets & sunrises in Darkfall are breathtaking.
biggest letdown:
there hasn't been a "big letdown". the existence of obvious alignment exploits are probably the thing i was most let down by... they should have been foreseen and fixed prior to beta.

Biggest let down is introduce NEONLIGHTS ABOVE HEAD they always have claimed all these years never ever will there be sign's above head well they are liar's it seems.
Biggest surprise is crashes few days before launch i realy thought they would at least have that mastered but far from that, crash after crash:(.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

for the second time, those were't crashes, they were posted in the beta forums.
second, they never said "never ever will there be signs above heads". it's people like you who grossly distort what's SAID into something completely different. they only said there wasn't right now, and they only introduced those group/clan markers in response to whines on the beta forums.
that said, i don't like the markers either; i would prefer the mouseover target to show different colours for clan/party but that's all.
Some will hate me for saying this but they should have just made the pvp faction based, which would have fixed most of the exploiting going on. Also the sound is horrible...
to be honest, almost all the pvp i did and saw was RvR (or CvC) based.

Luckily this is no longer an issue.

Just because Aventurine added a few tweaks in the latest patch, do you really think that will change the overall tone that has been Darkfalls playerbase during beta..
The Majority of Darkfalls playerbase is simply horrible, It won't change, they will just find new ways to exploit the game in their favor, players jumping on you when fighting was only one retarded exploit..
Suprise - Client stability. It never crashes for me. 90% of my guildmates have never crashed and the 10% that have, have only crashed once or twice. Simply amazing.
Letdown - World NPC/Mob population. Though the game world is absolutely beautifull and seem very much hand crafted... it is very very empty. They need to increase the number of Mobs 10x imo. I have convienced myself that the devs have purposely with held most mobs from beta as to not let beta users get too familair with the game world before release.
Over all i was really disappointed i think more by the dev team themselves more so the game
Disappointments
the biggest would have to be all the feature complete ready to go talk Tasos did turns out to be bs
the wont have to spend a dollar before trying it
the not the kind of company to have preorders only to have preorders
the sound is horrible especially as far as sound direction.
the world is empty. i dont want something ever five feet but there has to be a happy medium.Npc's to fill the empty cities, roaming migrational herds of animsl, animmls in general, the occasional lone or partnered creature harvesting, hunting whatever
the overall community sucks as already said its not about helpin and playin with everyone, its about ganking and tryin to ruin other players game time but I guess thats the game. I was hopin it would balance itself out but i dont think it will.
The exploiting, macroing and what so far seems the lack of interest by the devs to prevent this. It wont be long before the hacks are out and if the built in cheat system the devs have talked about folows the feature complete statements they have made, this game is in trouble.
Surprises
I still want to play it
i can still see this game being fun if you have some decent people to play with
It is stable i crashed once in all the time i played
I know someone will tell me its beta such and such isnt on or the creature pop isnt turned up blah, blah, blah
look its 3 days before release this stuff should be done and things should be turned on . Im tired of hearing mostly from people that have no connection to this game or its dev team what will be. It should already be and if its not fine, delay again and get it fixed dont tell us its done and ready when it clearly isnt and dont try to sell us this if its not
Ive been following since 05 not as much as some i know and i so want this game to work because i too am tired of the clones but i cant be blind about this like i was about D&L
Ill be waiting till the us release before i think about buyin this game
Biggest surprise: Client is rock solid, very stable with good performance.
Biggest letdown: Server is down WAY too much, and has not been stress tested. (the server also crashed frequently, even if it was to dump data for debug/diagnostic purposes)

I think he's talking about the rogue exploit wherein you could jump in front of someone and make them go rogue... according to the last patch notes this was fixed by adding a timer of some sort, but it hasn't been tested yet as the servers have not been up for more than 5 minutes since...
Comments
Suprise: No matter how many hours I put in.. I nevr crash.. ever
Letdown: Stealing/Snooping out, not enough fluff in general.. but it will only improve w/ conetnt updates/expansions
Remember Old School Ultima Online
