So, I log on after the servers return from being down for 3 days.
I decide I should run around, so I do that.
I ran to the middle of the world map, right into the word Agon.
I run through a forest to a giant mountain, and when I reach the top, this is what I see.

So, I'm like alright, this is pretty sick. So I run down the mountain side, right into the middle of the city, I find a canal type thing, and decide to swim in it.
I exit the water only to see what seems to be 4 swirling blue vortex's (which later was determined to be a charged skill) and mobs named "Deathless Mages", I ran away, because 1v4 does not work too well.

I come back only to discover none of them are there anymore, so I continue exploring around in a different direction, and come upon two Shadow Knights guarding a doorway, and enter combat with one of them. He hits pretty hard, so I ran away.
I start swimming through the canal and come out the other side.
I start running around, and see this heavily fortified town, I run around until I find the entrance and I start getting attacked by a Mahirim.

There seems to be two similar buildings right next to each other so I grabbed a screenshot of the outside.

I kept running, this time for a while longer and discovered what seems to be a city or camp between two rocks.

Upon closer inspection, it seems to be a destroyed Clan city.

So, I walk up to the top, and low and behold, the guild master. Killed him a few times...

It seems I can't loot him fast enough before he respawns at his own clanstone, but my main object of my exploration was to find a bank, and to fix my alignment, which has been fixed . Imma gank him a few more times before I log : )

Thank you, I like reading this sort of things!
However, repeatedly killing that guy at the end, over and over, is one of the reasons I will not pick this game up at start. I can stand anyone taking all my stuff no problem, but getting camped like that breaks immersion instead of adding it and that is a real gamebreaker to me.
I no longer am interested in this pile of garbage.. what developer programs the phrase.. "you ganked XXX" into their game? WTF is that?
Mortal Online is going to be a million time better.
Im all set for Darkfall. I will prob try mortal too if darkfall isnt great, but to me Mortal looks like conan 1.5 right now.

I believe it's an issue of semantics. It is my understanding that you actually have a button on your keyboard that is the "Gank" button. It's used to preform the finishing move to kill someone. Prior to that they can still be revived.
Certainly not my definition of "Ganking" someone. Although the OP covered it pretty well in the end there.

The guy he ganked was most likely AFK, Thus he could killed him more than one time.
After death you have a 2 min shield that protects you, Should be enough for anyone to escape.

Beyond beautiful? get real man your fanboy attitude is a joke. There is no way that DF is better looking than VG. The only thing that makes DF look half decent is the shadows,take them away and it looks crap.

ahh just like the spouse aggro podcast. They see one or two screenshots and want to equate the game to EQ1 graphics. I have seen plenty of post-NDA video as well as live streaming of hours of beta testing and I can guarantee that this game is hands down gorgeous!!! If I had to complain, the polygon count isn't as high as newer games and there are lots of linear edges, but still, I have to say that this is definitely shaping up to look better than Vanguard and I was a huge fan of that game.

From my understanding he was camping the spawnpoint. However he probably was afk as another post above explained. The 2 minutes invulnerability is good news and should take away most spawn camping.
edit: why discuss graphics at all in this thread? The point of the OP is in his story, more player stories for the win! For the record I think VG is easily the best PvE game out at the moment and this has nothing to do with it looking beautiful that is just a bonus. Good graphics in PvP games is even more being "just a bonus", that is even less important.
there is no way DF can look better than VG; the clipping plane in VG alone makes it outshine DF.
Now, if they implement some high-res textures, with clever use of bump mapping, increase the clipping plane and also allow for AF/AA, then it might look decent.
DF has a lot of shortcommings when it comes to graphics, shortcommings that are not visible in youtube videos or screenshots. You have to play to see them.
I read the OP's post.. and it seems that this guy finally discovered the fun of exploration, which is in every game. It sounds like the OP has his brain wrapped around some new and all powerful concept that no other mmorpg has - EXPLORATION. You guys have ranted and raved about Darkfall's exploration "meaning" something - it does in every game, even non mmorpg's. One of the best parts of an mmorpg is the fact you can go out and explore new world, the developers put more time and effort into these lands than you think. If you think they just make a pretty scenery and a few creatures to put in the zone is all they do, you are sadly mistaken. There is so much to explore in every zone, in every game.

Opjective opinion about gfx DFO v. Vantard:
Vantard easily wins for graphics.
DFO wins for everything else for not being made of fail and sabotaged by Brad McGhey.
DFo is like Shadowbane 1.5 graphically, Vantard is EQ2.1 (not even .5)
That being said, they are both made of fail as DFO is going to be a macrofest, and Vantard... well, its Vantard! If you play it you are spitting in the face of every gamer.

As for "naked macroing".. Skills can be raised by striking air? If thats so, then this game has already failed. Why fight you when I can just setup and auto strike air macro and build my skill up for days?
Obviously with that design the developers are indeed fighting themselves because you want your citizens to fight each other, yet they do not have to, to get better? Wheres the reward for fighting if they are going to train naked for skill all day? Who's ACTUALLY going to be fighting? lol..
DF is all about the macroing. Everything in the game can be increased from macroing. Just pick a spell and fire into the air until its maxed out in two days time. The same goes for naked macroing. Heck even mining you just pick a spot toss on the macro and let it run. Heck you can even do it in the safety of the newbie towns as not to get killed if you want.
And just like that my expectations for what would have ben a great game has taken a nose dive... That's a cowards choice of gameplay and if they allow it, then I don't think I'll be wasting my time..
Just like WAR fighting themselves with scenarios, this macro style will go against the whole idea that you must fight to improve. They should have just used an experience / level system if this is what they were going to do, or no progression at all and just let everyone pick skills and be at max.

Ouch, I should have not used such similar terms but let me clear up:
Nothing in the MMO world [except a similar scheme] will ever be as epically comprised of fail like Vantard, it was a early retirement program and a ponzy scheme and a snake oil sale all rolled into one. SOE bought a shell of a game, little more than enough of a shell to use for funding presentations.
So nothing will ever touch it. Anyone willing to pay into it by playing it is either a blind EQ1 old school idiot sheep, or someone who hates gamers, gaming, and MMO's... because any support of that game promotes ripping off of the average gamer.
DFO fail will be for far different reasons: MMO's are just too big of a project for small indy companies, without some crafy financial backing maneuvers, the game doesn't have the gameplay>gfx justification for looking like total shit, and the mechanics are inherently flawed and will be macrod till the cows come home... much like UO was by all the "hardXcore"s, if not worse.
