MMO with a one time payment?

SquishydewSquishydew Member UncommonPosts: 1,107

Hello,

Recently i moved to my dads house and theres a rule here that i cant play games that require me to pay monthly fees.

Up untill now I've always played WoW, but I'll be quitting after my time runs out.

Since i absolutely hate cash shops, are there any decent mmos out there that only require a one time payment to play? I've played guild wars quite a lot already, so I'm afraid thats not an option. :(

It doesn't have to have amazing graphics even 2D is fine, as long as the gameplay is a bit entertaining.

Anyway.. Thanks in advance, i really hope I'll still get to play something nice in my spare time.

( Edit : I do like guild wars, It's a good game, but I've just played it for a long time and it doesn't hold my attention anymore for longer then half an hour. )

If you manage to get founders referral for LotRO the game will have fixed permanent fee + the costs of the expansions you decide to buy. Getting founder referral these days might be harder though.

    Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...

Guild Wars, Guild Wars, Guild Wars :)

Buy the game once and you never need to pay again. You can try the trial by going to the GW forum and look for thread with the trial link. I'll go find it and bump it for you.

If you get a Founder's Referral for Lord of the Rings Online you can pay a one-time fee of $199.99 and without the Founder's Referral you can pay a one-time fee of $290.00 or something close to it.

I read that a lifetime subsciption to LotrO is quite expensive, so I'll have to pass on that, I was hoping for something within a 60 euros range. ( I do have more to spend if the game really appeals to me )

Why not just continue to play WoW, and just buy a year or two of service!  There won't be a monthly fee, but a yearly fee.  Thats a sound argument to present the parents with...hehe

If you get good (read: rich) enough in EVE, you can pay for the game using in-game currency.

Evil will always win, because Good is dumb.

most games can be purchased with a 1 year fee, or set up a paypal 1 time use virtual credit card, and make 1 purchase (year sub) and claim you bought something else :P

The best answer is, of course, Guild Wars.  It's unfortunate that you have to rule that out.

Failing that, you could try Puzzle Pirates on a doubloon server.  Basically, the way a doubloon server goes is that everyone has to pay doubloons to do a lot of things, but you can trade your PoE (the in-game currency) for someone else's doubloons, with someone else buying the doubloons from the company.
