The beta test was enjoyable, but I don't think that it was 50 dollars enjoyable...Just can't see myself playing it for long enough to warrent a purchase

Ive alway had a thing for tactical RTS games like the UFO series so this one was right down my street. I especially like the way cover is used in this game as well and how most of it is destructable [so run if a democharge is thrown at your cover].

HYPERI0N, I haven't tried it yet, liked the first...

But I have a question, how can it be much more awesome than the firsts? It looks kinda the same with destructable buildings 4 races less and 1 new... I don't know..

Anyways, what makes it much more awesome than the previous series?

I've never really been into RTS games but i thought i'd give this beta a try and i was pretty impressed and can understand why people like it, but i'd never personally buy it.

The origonal Dawn of war is basically a standard RTS with bases and units this one however is a Squad based RTS.  A little bit like X-Com in layout.

Most fun ive had with a RTS in a long time.  Lets see if Empire: Total war can top it.

I watched a review of it, was disappointed that they strayed from the big RTS and turned it into this squad-based crap. However I'm not one to throw it out the door before it's released, so we'll see how it pans out.

I'm done dedicating my time to any RTSs other than ones made by Blizzard. I want to play games that will be supported for many years. I'm sick of developing a like for a game, only to have it eventually over run by exploits because the company stopped releasing patches, forcing players to go buy a newer game.

Is there any other major company that actually maintains their old games well like Blizzard? It seems Valva kind of does, but they don't make RTSs. EA and Microsoft definetly don't.

It's on my list. Right at the top in fact.

What War Gear did you get and what difference does it make in the game please?

I have Men of War curently, another squad based RTS set in WW2.  It's a continuation of the series od Soldiers. Heroes of WW2 and Faces of War.

The war gear you get is simply additions to your armory in single player(so no difference in MP)

Thanks Jack, and is the MP is the same as before, resource and build?

or is it squad based like the SP?

  • NagelFireNagelFire Member Posts: 409

Multi is much different.  It is still squad based yes.. but the way you get requistion is only partially the same.  The squad cap is more restrictive.. and its much harder to get enough requistion and power to do anything.

As stated above, it's much different. You have one building and that's that. You can then upgrade to up to third 3 which will unlock your most powerful units. So instead of placing buildings you are out ensuring you have map control so that you build and upgrade your units. Unlike the first game, one squad can make all the difference in the world, and keeping your units alive is very important because of upgrades and veterancy. I played a 3v3 last night where I kept 2 out of 3 guardian squads alive though the game and they definately made a difference (dual nade a squad ftw ;) )

There is also a more bigger focus on tactics this time. Cover and suppression is extreme important now, which mean actual tactics such as flanking works. Had some Heavy Bolters against me in good cover -> Supression by infiltrators and flanking by guardians.

So it's very different from the Dawn of War 1. If it better or not can be discussed, but it is full tactics and is definately fun. I'd go as far as saying I prefer the 2nd one due to the extreme focus on combat and tactics as opposed to massing units(that is not saying that unit spam is all there is to dawn of war 1)
