They are trying to bring the game up to snuff, last thing on their mind is to update a webpage. They are communicating though the fourms.
If you are making judgements about their professionalism based upon their motivation to update a webpage, ask yourself: Would you rather they keep their webpage updated, or focus on updating the game. They are an indie company, with a finite amount of money and a finite amount of employees. I can understand if they choose to inform us through the news section in their fourms, rather then the news section of their website.
Desperate trolls = this game is good and is scaring others who dont like the core concepts and are afraid it will take subs away from their failing games.

So, we agree that they are desperate and in panic. Because when you have spent 10 millions and you are about to launch and have no marketing campaign, no producer, no box, forums all over the world filled with trolls, you AT LEAST take advantage of the god given right to a web site, and present your product very nicely in there. Thats basic stuff man.
They are unable to support the amount of people that would like to play it or at least try it ( a lot of people buy games because they want to be their since the beginning and they hope it does well). They should have known this was going to happen several months ago just by viewing their beta sign ups. They have had the time to set up and test a new server in the last several months.
Even as an indie gaming company this should be forseen and put into the budget. By not doing this they are actually hurting themselves from a financial and perception stand point. They knew exactly what was going to happen (if they didn't there is some severely askew in the company that needs to be remedied and fast). It is respectable that they didn't just keep allowing people to purchase preorders. We should at least give them credit for that. However by allowing them to slip on being prepared for a release. (Yes, funding is limited and server hardware is rediculously espensive) We are potentionally allowing them to slip in the future and get away with it when we would never let any other game company do this.
The jist of this I suppose is that we should be critical, yet understanding, of an indie company. We should still hold them to the same standards of a larger company. By doing this we ensure that we as customers are treated at a constant and respectful level of service. (This applies to the big companies)
This has the potential to massively hurt any game, assuming the game is good in the first place. Luckily as far as I'm aware there are no major games coming out around this time. Developers in general want to get as many people as they can to purchase their product at the beginning of its life. This is where most products get their major source of players from is the launch and then the product stabilizes. If your reverse this procedure it doesn't work very well. Maybe they can pull it off we shall see.
Good luck, DFO and have fun all of you that did get in.
