This game is really under-rated on this site

I've been playing L2 for about 2-3 months now and it has been quite fun to me. I understand how alot of people might not appreciate the game since it requires patience and time to actually level the character but this doesn't really seem like a bad idea to me. It gets rid of the people who expect to play a game for a couple of hours and be better than the people who have worked for a long time on their character. Although this is my first MMORPG I've really played and i can't really compare to others I still find the game quite enjoyable (the most similar game i've played is morrowind) Even though there are problems with PvP and "noob killing" early in the game, if you hang around the starter towns and make some friends, or even be nice to the pkers you will find this does not happen very often. Or if this doesnt appeal to you, just concentrate on the fact that while they waste their time deleveling like this, your character is getting stronger and soon you will be able to avenge yourself. Anyway I just think that if you stick around at least until level 20 you will begin to enjoy the game. With so many expansions planned and having already experienced castle seiges and clan battles I think this game is very exciting and more will be on the way.

Agreed, I just started roughly 2 weeks ago, I am a casual player, having only 2-3hrs a night to play and more time on the weekends. After starting up I was immediately taken by the scenery and the graphics, then I really got into the gameplay.

It was cool to have a group last night of 2 lvl 9's a lvl 12 and myself a lvl 15 and we all got xp based on a percentage of our level. I think it is something to the effect of 7%. This way you can help some of the newer players to the game.

I know I started this game kinda late, even with eq2 and Wow right around the corner, I plan on continuing to play this.

Ill havta aggree with ernst also.  I played for awhile, got a level 29 assasin, 23 warrior, and a few 15+.  It is a game you need patience for, but it pays off.  I like lineage 1 better myself, but this game is wayy underrated.  People have no patience nowadays as you can tell.  One problem in this game though is chinese adena farmers.  Buying all you rmoney on ebay definatley ruins the game for alot of people..  i tried very hard to get my 2 mil that i had, and some noob walks up to me and has best d grade armor/wep and he's level 20.  Very gay to me.  Although, i had fun killing them all with my mortal blow :))

I've played pretty much every MMORPG out there and slow leveling does not bother me, in fact in most cases I prefer it. However L2 has much bigger issues than slow leveling such as, a horrible community... sorry for the few good folks that play L2 but most of the people in that game are the absolute scum of the earth. Character customization in this game is laughable,  everyone looks like they just stepped out of a cloning laboratory. The PvP system is well.... broken, and I truly believe they consulted a special ed student on how to design it. Bots, need I say more? I've never encountered a single bot in DAOC or EQ, and if someone is caught trying to use a cheat/hack in those games they are permanently banned, I don't think NCsoft cares as long as they are raking in the dough. The time sinks in this game are awful. To me there is a big difference between challenging and tedious, L2 isn't challenging, it's tedious. The fact that you are forced to use point and click movement is rediculous, at the very least they should give you the option of using the keyboard controls, but I guess the brilliant designers at NCsoft didn't think of that one. Sure I could get used to PnC movement, just as I could probably get used to someone following me around 24/7 smacking me over the head with a baseball bat every 30 seconds, but I'd rather not get used to neither one. Of course if someone were to continually smack me over the head I might lose enough brain cells to actually make L2 fun to play, but even that is doubtful.

No offense to anyone who plays L2, I know some of you are good people, and different strokes for different folks and all that. image

Agreed with above. I especially like the baseball to the head analogy. I don't think this game is under-rated at all as it's been rated by viewers of this website and the majority found it lacking. I also agree that it's not challenging as much as it is tedious and has a design that does nothing more than encourage and reward poor play.

Well all I can say is let those "number theorists" preoccupy themselves with all the abstract thinking they set out to do and we do our job that we are usually good at: playing.

Lineage 2 is a very good, epic game by all measure and within the premise it came with at the beginning: Being faithful sequel to lineage with retainment of time rewarding feature.

It set out to be what it said it would be: 2nd generation MMORPG with much improved graphic.

It didn't try to be Guild Wars nor City Of Heroes nor anything that might diverge from the traditional fantasy themed MMORPG.

It didn't particularly seek uncharted area for design venture. It kept all the features its predecessor was known for: open PvP, castle siege, hardcore clan politics, etc.

If you understand the context of this particular game, it really doesn't mean that much to speculate about what certain number represents for you.

I agree Lineage 1 kicks L2's ass. All the fancy graphics in the world can't make up for the fact that L1 is simply more fun. And as for assholes being present in every MMORPG, sure there will be some in every game however in all my time playing DAOC I met maybe 10-20 people like this, that's after playing over 2 years, on average the community in that game was excellent, people were helpful, friendly, mature.... I'm sorry to say but the reverse is true for Lineage 2, the majority of people are asses and you'll be lucky to meet 10-20 nice people after 2 years. Ok maybe that's a slight exageration but you get my point.

Yes, my experience with L2 was spoiled by the adena farmers swearing at me in korean or chinese. hehehe Spent most of my time trying to figure out which players were real and which were adena farmers and which were simply bots.  By far the worst community I've come across in my MMORPG experience.

    Just my experience though, hehehehe

Judging by the horrible reviews that is pretty much everyones experience in Lineage 2.

Well, as far as the game itself, I liked it much better than EQ, Ultima Online, GW, SWG. Most of the negative comments are from people who never gave this game a chance. Who really wanted to just say Lin2 wasn't as good as EQ or their own game.

Being such a new game, it's possible Lin2 hasn't had the time to form a perfect community and/or economy. Espeically with all the bugs and farmers and such in Beta. But things have really improved.  But regardless much of the smack talk going on about Lineage II right now, it's been pretty successful.  I'll continue to play it and in my opinion, many more will follow suit as we go through the next few chronicles and the L2 team gets everything running smoothly.

I think that's BS, just playing the game is giving it a chance, not giving it a chance would be listening to others and basing your opinion off what others say. I loved Lineage 1,  I gave Lineage 2 a chance, I think the game has potential and under a competant development team could have been an excellent game, but "potential" doesn't keep me playing a game.

The game is not under rated... The only good thing about Lineage 2 is castle siege and graphics.

I played for 2 month... There is so much down time i had the time to program a bot and make it nearly perfect in 3 weeks, programming only when i was resting in the game.

Its no surprise at all to see as many bots, lots of mmorpg player are good programmers and Bot are easy to program in L2. Im probably not the only one that used is down time to make one.

Anyway, I had more fun making the Bot then playing the game....

I don't think its under rated.  I gave this game a shot. The customer service is horrible.  The farmers ar horrible.  The grind is horrible.  I did have fun in it tho.  And yes I did give it a chance 3 40+++ chars.  I had fun but I still do not think this game is under rated.

  • OudoksujaOudoksuja Member Posts: 106

It's not under-rated. It's highly overrated, just because of the fancy graphics. I've compared the game to a combat system (and just that) from a Final Fantasy game before.

No content, no gratification, no customer service, no nothing. Just a grind that takes your time and gives nothing back.

That sums up very well what L2 is. It's a game in a very nice package, but the content is horribly awful. If you haven't played it, don't waste money trying it. - It's far from worth it!!

Newbinator, hon...if you ever come back to lin2, the arrow keys allow you to move around using the keyboard.  Just a note.

I agree there are a lot of problems with the game, but I also think that yes, this game is new.  It's still young.  It's going to take some time to get really good, and if any of you research the chronicle 2 content, it looks to be incredible.

As for community, has anyone played Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 on bnet?  I can't believe people think WoW will have a decent community.  To me, that's just stupid.  You're going to have a whole bunch of l33t pwnage people.  Bleh, lame.  Anywho, I like my lin2 friends, I like my lin2 graphics, and I like how hard lin2 is to get to a high level in.

Oh, btw, has anyone noticed that D&D online will only have 20 levels.  And yet, people are crazily excited about that game...You do know that grind is going to be insane, right?

  • ErinakErinak Member Posts: 24

Not flaming but this last post is perfect for counter points. L2 has a lack of even allowing the basic of control customization. Letting you use the arrow keys to move around is not even basic.

It's been out for around what, eight months now in retail? How much time does a game need in order to get good? I personally expect it to be good right from the start. L2 probably should of gone retail only when C2 was out and part of the package. Doesn't matter now cause they've burned up most all of their reviews here in NA. I'm still really interested to see their quarterly report for NA this next period though.

I'm pretty sure L2 has more than their share of 'l33t pwnage people', along with botters, scammers, exploiters. Not really the fault of the players, I truly believe the developers designed the game to tick people off and make them hate each other. It's good for clan wars and all that. Unfortunately their archaic flag system for PvP is a stopper.

I can't comment on D&D online yet, but grind exists because of people who play games like it was a career. The trick for a good game is not making it seem like a grind. With L2 they don't even try. And grind does not equal hard, L2 isn't hard, it's tedious.

Listen buddy whats hard about using the arrow keys to move around? Most of the time your using the mouse
and its realy easy to use the mouse i use thearrow keys only if im stuck left, right, down,up get it its basic
anyways i quit l2 for almost 3 months and came back and its been fun even though you realy got to work for your money in this game even if your a crafter but its rewarding. I personaly like the flaging system in this game it adds to pvp so you cant always just go around killing people if u feel it without a penalty.

If you dont like this then go play a game like shadowbane were you can get killed right after you spawn after getting pked uggg. Ill have to agree with you on the C2 thing with c2 this game is complete in my veiw
i just wish they came out with c2 right from the start c2 wil add alottttttt of features and new areas which i hope will bring back some of those people that quit, but make no mistake about it this is the harshest MMO out there in my veiw but it realy makes the game more fun for me cuz im HARDCORE!::::22:: lol

    Two words.

    Rang rang.

That's the whole description of this game. Been in it thru cb-ob(HAHAHA OB)-retail(HAHAH retail). Many of you newbs don't know that L2 was in alpha state when launched. CB was ok but ob-retail were ruined by farmers. Don't give me that crap it takes patience. It takes numbskull to play that and sad to say I was one of them.

If you want superb community eve-online cannot be beat.

    anyways nuff about that.

lineage 2 is weak anyone who likes this game over pictures and lots of T&A is not a gammer but a horny little person i played that game since open beta and let me tell you i know more ppl who nave more then one account just to make money since there are nothing but adena inc farmers every where oh wait heres the best part it takes millinos for lvl 30 + armor oh wait  dont items drop from monsters .. sure example goat head staff drops 1 in 4200 from a mob that spawns 1  every 4 hrs hmmmm lets do the math shall we if i hunted that monster every day i would get 6 kills per 24 hrs devide 4200 by 6 you get 700 hmm 700 days to get it to drop ya that  reasonable.. as reasonable as getting you head blown off... oh and a lvl 50 can delvl to 4 with out loseing any of the high lvl skills so that way he can run around kill all the newbies take thier armor that took them at least 2 weeks to save for. starter items start around 14k reasonable if... adeana was more then 2 or 3 adena a kill at that lvl. i have never seen a big drop in that game and i would play up to 10hrs a day on it , never broke even any day i played i always had less money then what i started with , this game is only for those who have more then one pc to use that way u can have two chars  to collect money from and if ones a dwarf u can spoil, wich brings me to another point only way to make money is start with a dwarf till hes good n high must be a scavy so he can spoil since spoiling is only way to get most drops...lame any good mmorpg will allow a player to go out kill a few monsters and recive standard armor and crafting be for armor say above lvl 50

I agree aswell. I've become lvl 52 after months of endless tiresome grinding. It never stops.
I even once fell asleep (died) while grinding.

I've kind of stopped playing l2 now. I only log to PVP or help clanies. I don't want to grind anymore, it slowly consume your life-energy

    no kidding

NC soft are doing all they can to stop farmers/bots etc but in the mean time we all need to be patient and show nc soft our support and also chronicle 2 is only a matter of weeks away so hopefully that should bump up the ratings a bit especially with all the new things its bringing for us :)

No offense to you, but if the devs designed the game right in the first place they wouldn't have to deal with bot farmers and worse. About eight months since retail release is more than enough patience. The game did what they wanted it to do, suck money from people in exchange for a simple grind.
