I just got a new comptuter 3 or 4 weeks ago and ever since it has had graphic problems. There are purple squares and lines across the screen and some of the ground and terrain are missing. There will be texures chopped up and shapes and shadows stretching across the screen. It mosly happens in games although when i click start and all programs there will be green lines across the desktop that go away when I put a window over them.
All the games i have tried have had some sort of problem with them. Rome: Total War(playable),Warhammer 40k : Dawn of War(really bad), Battlefield:Vietnam ,AVP2(not as bad), Joint Ops: Typhoon Rising(really bad), Call of Duty(really bad) and StarCraft runs fine.
I tried downloading several catalyst and drivers for my video card. I also increased voltage to my AGP slot from 1.5v to 1.6v but it had no effect. I tried changing from 8x to 4x with no effect. I tried changing resolutions ingame with no effect except for Rome: Total War where it would load it sometimes better or worse and i could get it where it was playable.
Here are my system specs:
Amd Athlon xp 3200,2x512 DDR 400 pc-3200,80gig HD,ATI RADEON 9600xt 256vram, In dxdiag it says i have directx 9.0c.
I have a manual that says ASUS A7N8X-X series motherboard and I have a disc that says nvidia nforce2 series motherboard. I thought this was weird but maybe its the right disc. It says ASUS on the bottom of the disc so maybe its the right one.
I went to ATI.com and looked under technical issues for my card and many of the problems sound like what i have. It would say to correct the problem download catalyst 3.10 or higher and i have downloaded and installed like 10 different ones but none of them helped.
It took some screenshots of Call of Duty but i dont think i can post them here but i could email them if someone wants to take a look.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Well....first thing that comes to mind first that you should do is to check the program's running in your background of windows, and clear those out completely.
go to start>Run>type msconfig>click startup tab at top> uncheck everything except antivirus
If by doing this it does not help and you have downloaded the latest drivers from ATI I would also check the Motherboard driver's and chipset driver's. Update those because there could be a compatibility issue with your motherboard driver's and vid card/agp driver's.
Let me guess though...did you build this yourself? Or have someone build it for you? Is it OEM (i.e. Dell, Compaq, etc.)
If that does not work at all then I would say it is a hardware problem, and replace the hardware since it should still be under warranty.
Just a few basic things to try....hope it helps

Another thought that just came to my mind...Did you try to overclock your vid card at all? It would seem that you would know how if you are able to adjust voltage going to your agp in bios to 1.6v. I would'nt even mess with things like this unless you absolutely know what you are doing. I would have a custom cooling system setup in your machine to keep temp's under control and prevent damage.
If you did try to overclock the card or adjust voltage that can cause damage to your vid card and or cause things to happen like artifacting and or graphical anomolies in general.

You could check out/replace your IDE cables as well. Sounds strange but my friend had those purple boxes appearing on his screen too. When he finally did a close inspection, he found his cat had gotten into the case and gnawed on his IDE cabels lol. Once he replaced them and checked the rest of his connections the problem went away.
I bought it from ibuypower.com. Its not overclocked or anything.
The last computer i bought was from cyberpowerinc.com and I had problems with crashing but nothing serious. My brother in law bought his from cyberpowerinc and his would crash after five or ten minutes because of some overheating issues, so he had to send it back. They fixed it and his computers fine. I decided to buy from ibuypower to avoid going through what my brother in law did, but now i have found myself in a simular situation.
Ibuypower and Cyberpowerinc have similar deals and prices, it seems like they are the same company. I contacted ibuypower techsupport and i was told that my video card was probably bad so i hope i can send it back. I'm going to be real skeptical about buying anything else from these companys despite their excellent prices.

You've got a bad video card. If Ibuypower hopes to keep its name as a reputable company, they will give you a new card.
