Requiem: Bloodmare - totally underrated

FlinkeklingeFlinkeklinge Member UncommonPosts: 1

Hi there,
as you can see im new to this forum but i used it as a information source for mmorpg´s for a long time.
Well, i decided to register with this forum so i can tell you a bit about the game im currently playing: Requiem Bloodymare
Like many of the ppl here i was trying to find a GOOD free mmorpg for ages since i came across Requiem.
My first thought when i entered the game was: dull.....:hmm:
But when i advanced in lvls ( and finally realized i HAD TO DO quests to lvl >.<)
i noticed how polished and unique it is compared to other games out right now.
I mean, when did you ever came across a free mmorpg where wasd movement is as smooth as wow´s? When did you see your char actualy dodge when he dodges? When did quest really involve you into the storyline of the World ? When did you came across a game where you have so many different equipment sets for all lvl ranges that almost nobody looks the same?
And of course when did you see visuals this stunning? :

Gravity Inc. prohibited us the users to advertise the game... i did it nonetheless, because i think this game deserves a second look.
It´s out for about a year and we already got 2 huge updates with a new race new raids new dungeons new pvp system the list never ends...

Yeah I played it till  level 42. Its ok yeah but honeslty its about as good as a Free 2 play game CAN get, Which is honestly not very good. In general free 2 play games are just not fun. So finding the best or the top of  that kinda game is really not an acheavement.  Thats like saying you found the best Wasabi or Escargo in the world. Yeah its the best but how many people really love Wasabi or Escargo? If your one of the few then well congratz, but the general majority won't really like those foods anyways, Thats kinda how it works with Free 2 play mmorpgs. I used to look for a solid F2P mmorpg, I did for about 2 years. Gave up on it just started playing some pay 2 play mmorpgs, and there is a very huge difference in quality and polish of a F2P vs a P2P game. So for Free 2 play it is good, but when compared to the P2P industry it lacks in almost every aspect.

Check out Runes of Magic if you haven't yet, it is (imho) the highest quality f2p currently available.

Its actually been released for 6 months.  It started its US betas in March last year, released in August.  We are expecting the next big update in early febuary from statements made by the GM staff.  Its fun for what it is.  I think that its gameplay isn't varied enough at higher levels, but there are about a dozen things in development that we hear and see on the Korean test server that help remedy it.  I would say in another year this will be a pretty solid game.

As a PVE game there are content gaps from 40~45, and from 65~71.  Its actually a little surprising have that many quests in a f2p game.  Their cash shop method is the type I prefer, and their management is also the type I prefer.  Cash shop being modest with subs that come with leveling benefits, and cosmetics.  Management being directly controlled by the main company so we get updates a week after the main version.

Yeah but RoM have many bugs at lvl 50 and the PvP system sucks atm. Frogster said they will change the PvP system soon but it havnt happend yet

I have to agree, with the RoM post above, RoM is probably the best F2P game you will find, FUN wise I think, they don't make you mindlessly grind, its got a nice storyline, I mean its still F2P so you cant expect much but its alright..

I have no idea why it lags on your computer but I have played RoM on 2 low end machines before and it runs quite fine.  Actually my only problem with RoM is the horrible sound effects lol.

You realize that the International servers are separate from the US servers, right?

I live in NA, and I average 85-100ms. Far from anything that could be considered a "lag fest".

hey, well when I installed I choose English USA, so why am I lagging?

I'm a total hardcore WoW player.  One of those guys that raids 5-6 nights a week and is always racing for first kills with my guild on new raid content.  I enjoy WoW but I've been on a constant search for a new MMORPG that can steal me away from it.  Unfortunately, I've wasted my money on games such as City of Heroes, Lineage II, Age of Conan, and Hellgate: London.

City of Heroes / Villains was amazing except for one issue.  There was no reason to keep playing after you hit the level cap.  Lineage II was a total grind fest just to be competative in PvP.  The raids in Lineage II weren't all that bad but nothing more than lots of people beating on a high hp high dmg mob.  AoC was a total let down through and through and Hellgate: London.... well, it's closed now so that says that.

I've found myself sifting through all these mmo sites playing all the free to play mmo's I can get my hands on.  There have only been 3 that have found a permenant place on my hard drive and those 3 are:

    Atlantica Online

    Requiem: Bloodymare

    Exteel

These 3 games all have a sense of progression to them where I can feel accomplished as I play while still getting an experience that is different than World of WarCraft.  Requiem: Bloodymare has the most potential to be on par with other pay to play mmorpg's.  After referring a few of my friends to Requiem they actually cancelled their WoW accounts and one of them has stopped playing Guild Wars completely now.

I'm glad to see Requiem getting some recent attention because it is my opinion that Requiem would be the game to steal me away from World of WarCraft without having to put up a fight... except for one thing.  As beautiful, bloody, and unique as it is; it is infact rather incomplete.  The dev team for Requiem, however, is the best I have ever seen.  Their urgency for pushing content and maintaining the game is astounding.  It makes me wonder why Blizzard can't push the same efforts I see from Gravity.  From what I've heard the Korean version of Requiem is huge atm.  Even requiem-wiki.org has some place holders setup for upcoming content: such as new Possession Beasts.

I feel Requiem needs to grow now because the better and faster it grows the more urgent the Gravity Dev Team will be at getting us the new content.  In the mean time, you can fully enjoy Requiem without paying a dime.  If you have the cash to spare, I won't lie, it's a huge help from 42-46'ish to have a Premium account and get a couple EXP Potions from the Item Mall.  One of the best things about Requiem is that the Basic and Premium subscriptions aren't really subscriptions because they don't auto renew.  When you purchased Basic ($8.00 1 Month) or Premium ($15.00 1 month) you will not be charged past the last day of that 1 month and will have to return to the homepage to intentionally pay for and begin a new month of subscription bonuses.  So there is no cancelling.  Just buy what you need when you need it and can afford it.

Keep pushing this game up the list.  It deserves a crown for the best f2p approaching p2p quality.  If you disagree then I'll be willing to bet you'll change your feelings by the end of 2009.  God.... I can't wait for the new Possession Beasts!  Happy Hunting!

Idk I kinda find this game unnatractive to me.

In my opinion it's among the better mmos available, free or pay to play.  It's unique world and stylish animation is what sets it apart.

The 3 permanent ones on my HDD are Runes of Magic Exteel and recently took Requiems spot did- Atlantica online. I started playing that and almost that same week stopped requiem quit my guild and uninstalled Atlantica kicks butt!

  • troyboy123troyboy123 Member Posts: 21

yeah if you like instant based battles and solo, I know you can party but atlantica doesnt appeal to people who enjoy pk, period, you cant even see people when they go to battle, they just disapear from the map, now thats homo.

""you cant even see people when they go to battle, they just disapear from the map,""

Actually you can see them.  It's a setting you can turn on and off. ><

I have to agree.  I just do not see the appeal of turn-based, instanced battles.  It's like taking a step backwards on MMORPG design.

I'm sorry, I just can't. I've tried to get into both WoW and RoM, but the cartoon graphics alway pull me back from getting immersed in the game. In RoM its not just the cartoon graphics, but the ridiculous-looking kiddie mobs, like the mushrooms. I guess for some people, the look doesn't bother them, but it's too distracting for me.

Requiem is the genre I've been looking for (horror) and apparently its the only horror MMO out right now since HGL left us. I also like the graphics -- they look a lot like Lineage II and I always loved the look of that game. Too bad the rest of L2 is so out of control. The mood in Requiem is "brooding" -- the only word I can think of to describe it -- and it fits perfectly.

I'm also really pleased with the way PK is implemented. You make your choices and deal with the consequences. The only thing I'm not sure about is what happens when you're tagged as a murderer and belong to a guild. Do you get booted since PKs aren't allowed grouping or guilds until they have worked off their PK points? IDK. I hope so.

I'm just glad I found this game. I sure hope it lasts. After playing for 2 weeks, I went all-out and sub'd a premium account. I'm in heaven -- actually, I guess that would be Hell.

I have to agree. So far, Requiem has been the only F2P game I've handed money over to. However, I haven't played it since I hit level 60 - which was a few months ago.

In regard to Runes of Magic - as mentioned by another forumite - the only thing I can say regarding that game is... *gag*

I'm not fussed about graphics, really, but that game is simply unattractive and "common."

Regardless, I think Requiem is one of those games that many overlook when hunting for new games to play. But it's worth playing, even if only for a while :)

I like this game too. i have only played through the first 12 levels, but so far it is really fun.

  • GravargGravarg Member UncommonPosts: 3,424

Any game with a loading screen that makes my sister barf when she's visiting is the game for me

I'm a bloodmonger, and Requiem soothes my blood thirst.  I wish there was even more blood sometimes

Really the only problem I have is that it's listed as a f2p game, but after level 50 if you don't p2p you really can't get anywhere.  I still enjoy all the blood and guts though

  • LycaerixLycaerix Member UncommonPosts: 19

    hahaha

Yeah, Requiem definitely has a fantastic loading screen - I think it's very well thought out, actually. It's the little things that matter

  • Calintz333Calintz333 Member UncommonPosts: 1,193

There is one major thing that Requiem is missing which keeps it back from being the best Free 2 play game out there. I belive that A good storyline is a strong foundation for any mmorpg. And this game is badly lacking in a storyline. It has a lot of mini quests storylines however the main storyline is not there. To me the game feels like an empty soulless shell. A very good shell but a shell non the less.

  • LycaerixLycaerix Member UncommonPosts: 19

Agreed. It's why I stopped playing, actually. I didn't feel a "connection" with it
