Well a few months ago I left WoW since then I have tried almost every MMORPG at least every one I could find that I thought would interest me. I usually find one or two reasons to dislike a game and those reasons eat at me until I start to hate whatever game I'm playing.
Here are the games I've tried and the reasons I eventually grew to hate the game.
* WoW - I think I just played too long but the reason I finally left was it was taking me 24 hours played to get 1 level with my 5 box team.
* SWG - I only left because of the combat update I never grew to hate this game.
* EQII - I left after my main (Paladin) could no longer tank, went back after 2 years and loved the game up to level 50 then leveling was too slow for me.
* LoTRO - I left originally because of high repair costs on my main (Guardian) came back after 18 months then quit because of slow leveling speed after level 30.
* WAR - I stopped playing after level 20 because the game just got boring to me. This game was to me the most fun game I've played since SWG.
* City of Heroes - I just got bored after a week.
* Pirates of the Caribbean - Making gold was just too hard and I always lost my gold gambling.
* Guild Wars - I didn't like all the instanced zones.
Currently I playing Runes of Magic and it seems fun but I don't think it has longevity. I have been thinking of trying AoC as I love the Conan books and it seems almost like the last game left.
Anyone have any suggestions for a MMORPG? Should I just give up trying to play MMORPG games?

I was the same way for a while. What fixed it for me was I stopped focusing on progressing in the game and started focusing on what made it fun for me. I went back to WAR and instead of wanting that next level or peice of gear I found an active guild that was very social and just focused on what was fun.
I used to not play alts and things because that meant that my main would fall behind. Things like helping lowbies was out of the question because it wasted precious time that I could be progressing and improving my main. Now when I get the urge to play an alt, I do it. When someone asks for help, even if I don't know them, I do it. All of these things added to *gasp* the multiplayer part of an MMO and I haven't had this much fun since I was group XP grinding in DAoC pre-expansions many years ago.
I'm sure if you picked a game that you did have fun with and you did the same you would get back into it. Of course your mileage may vary. Certain people have their own definition of fun.
If you don't mind saying, how old are you?
It's gotten to the point where some MMOs have been reduced to little more than success dispensers. Don't think. Don't challenge yourself. Do as little as possible... but still be rewarded for it. Yeah.. *that's* fun.

I'm 47 and usually play 60+ hours a week or used to. Are you still playing WAR? I had so much fun with WAR until tier 3 when the fun just seemed to get sucked away. I made several alts and played them through tier 2 as well.
Yeah, I'm still playing. Started fresh on Skull Throne - Order so there was none of that old pressure to "perform". So far so good.
I used to play alot too but I stopped. I think X-Fire said I played 28 hours last week. Some of that is due to unavoidable RL stuff but for the most part I think it was me consiously switching over to a casual player mentality. Rather than playing because I felt I had to I play now when my work is done and everything else is squared away. I really do like this whole new gaming outlook. It's rejuvenated the genre for me.

AoC is a lot better than when it first released. Its a viable option now but only if your system can handle it.
You may want to give the MMORPG Finder a try as well
MMORPG Characters immortalized!
LLyncu: Star Wars Galaxies (Chimaera)
Xiode: Age of Conan (Mannanan)

Give Atlantica online a shot liking it more than WoW F2P clones, also you might want to try Eve online free trial if you have not done so already.
Um, yikes? If you really do play that much, maybe you should be done with MMORPGs for a while to get your life back in shape. There are more important things in life than computer games.
Now if you are playing 60+ hours a week then you really do need a new hobby it is not healthy to set in front of a computer that much anight and I assume you prob. work where you spend all day in front of a computer as well. Think it is time to go for a jog or get laid
Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind.
This is the best advice you can give someone who has got bored of MMOs. I found myself at 1 point without a game because everything seemed boring, but i found if i stopped focusing on power levelling characters and trying to get full epic gear etc and concentrate on the fun aspects of the game, like with WAR i would get my friends together to do PQs and attack destro cities etc and i found taking it slow and enjoying it to be the way to go.
I agree with Slann totally. I went through the same thing until I too changed my play style. I am enjoying me game much more now then I use to.
Being that all MMO's to a point are an EQ clone, then your like me and done with MMO's for the most part.
Have to wait and see if Dev's ever take a leap of faith and evolve MMO's, havent seen anything yet
Apart from ones i mentioned last page even the upcoming MMOs are no where like EQ with exception of Aion & Chronicle of spellborn.
Stargate universe
Jumpgate evolution
The old republic
Champions online
The agency
Huxley
DCUniverse
I think we all get bored with MMOs now and then.....Usually what I do is mix it up a little with single player games and try to use different genres (ie sports, RPG, FPS, etc)........I found that the mainstream games were getting to be a little too much alike (WoW,Lotro, eq2, etc) so I would look around and see if there are different types of MMOs or single player games that give a break from the quest driven games.......If youre looking for a nice single player game with some fun combat I would recommend Mount & Blade.......If you have a solid PC it has really fun combat and is very entertaining for awhile......They have a free trial and you can play a character up to level 7 as many times as you like........If you want a MMO that plays differently from the WoW clones try out Atlantica....Its free to play and turn based....While some players dont like turn based if you give it a fair shot with no prejudice going in then it may be a nice change for you.
This is just something I legitimately will probably never understand.
CWEGuru, I've recently retired from WoW after 4 years (reasons are unimportant), and I was in the same situation you were. I went ahead and tried just about every trial MMO of games, some I've tried before, and wanted to see what was changed/different, tried F2P games, etc.
The usual "grind" of finding a new virtual home to call home for awhile.
Then it, along with forum browsing to posts such as this, it just hit me.
It's okay to just be burned out, and move on.
Now, don't get me wrong. I truly wish you find an MMO that caters to your playstyle, features you enjoy, and resparks imagination back to the genre of gaming many of us are enthusiasts for. It could be as simple as replaying an old gem that isn't entirly 'popular', or maybe one of the many, many games that are coming out in the near and far future.
Still, if you find yourself bored with the whole idea of MMO games, then maybe it's just not your thing anymore. I think it ultimately comes down to being as simple as that. Tastes change, what was once new, becomes stale and repetitive. If that's the direction and theme that seems to pop up with current MMO games, it really is okay to just find something that interests you differently, and move along to it.
The common theme I'm seeing with your dissatisfaction with MMO games, besides a few stranger, nitpicking ones (repair costs and instanced zones), appears to be simply boredom.
I cannot fathom why anyone would want to buy a game and pay a monthly fee for something that has a track record of being boring. You're not somehow obligated by the MMO Gods to dedicate a lifetime of support to the genre when you are clearly not enjoying it anymore. So why do it?
Obviously, it's your time and money, and the only person who makes the decision is, ultimately, you. I can't imagine anything anyone says in this thread is going to make-or-break your feelings on the issue you're having. I do know, however, if I had the judgements that you've displayed so far, it would clearly be an indicator for me that my "career" in MMO games is winding down, I tip my hat and always recall the memories and people I've met in my travels fondly, and dash off into the sunset and see what new adventures lie in other arenas.
And, really.. I think that's okay.

Well said. I think I am on my way to doing exactly what you did I'm just not as far along. I do, however, see my MMO retirement on the horizon.

I think it also important to add that I'm not trying to dissuade the OP from playing MMO games, or even go to an extreme as give up trying to find a right fit altogether.
Our hobby is a funny thing; one day you can just be tired of it all, then see a preview of a new MMO or a review of a long-standing one, and interest is piqued once again.
If these types of games are truly something you enjoy, you can always keep an eye out during the time off. Always see what new things the industry brings, and put yourself in the position to take a chance on it or not.
I honestly believe there is middle ground between the absolute hate and a blind allegiance to the genre. I wish more people looked at it from those perspectives, maybe communities would end up being the better for it.
At any rate, best of luck in the future no matter what choice is made.

Kudos to the trolls saying "get laid and get a life". Time spent playing games and quality of social life have no concrete correlation.
OP, glad you have the time to do what you enjoy! And I feel like the same is happening to me, albeit at a younger age.
I think Slaynn has a valid point.
Every time I set my eyes on a new game, I would grind and burn out within a few months. Lineage II, 2 months, 15 hours a day, just to get into that hardcore Guild and to be the top level of the prof of the server. Grind can be very rewarding initially, since you get a great feel of achievement, but when the grind becomes too hardcore, the work/achievement curve balances out, and it becomes too boring.
Even though I love the first few grinding weeks, I often find my self enjoying the times where I have just gone along, and played socially/casually.
Some of my best experience include, bringing the first woolen bag onto the Orgrimmar AH on my beta server. Not caring about levels, just scavenging for material, and achieve a small but very fun and rewarding goal. Another great experience was from AO, just sitting at harry's the outpost outsite Omni, and recovering from battle, seeing people run by, and having a chat with the random adventurer.
Actualy one of my most fond gaming experiences, and one that I keep coming back to, has nothing to do with being Uber or playing long hours; Planetside. You can just jump in, join your outfit or some random group, and try and keep the bases. The huge battles that often occurs are thrilling and amazing. Its the same kick I get from playing Star Craft, again and again. Great gameplay is key, feeling of achievenment too, that comes from overcoming whatever small obstacle it may be.
In the end, our curse as long time mmo'ers, is our passion of the genre, and hence our first wonderful noob experiences in those early games. It wont come back. We keep looking for it, even while we are experiencing new and great virtual adventures.
It is as it is with everything in life, its about seeing the quality in the now, realising that this moment, quite likely will become one of those moment you will look back to with fond memories. Its about creating these moments in the now.
If you want to change your life, you need to do something you have never done before.. same goes for mmo's, change your playstyle.
Cheers

age of conan dude best mmo of 08 and 2nd place for game of the year

question answered :P go play the only thing that was really great and not on ur list.
I likw that site I never heard of it before.
And the process of "getting laid " could be very expensive and boring, and include thing like attend disco's where the sound is soo high you can't talk or ear. Is to vile as a activity. Boring and dull. Getting drunk with friends is ok-ish, but doing it every week-end could dry fast.
Gamming is somewhat like a refuge. If you want high volume music, or get drunk, you still can, but you are not "forced". And getting laid is not that important. Sex is nothing to send a letter home. And having a partner is wrong, if you yourself have something to do on your own personal list. Two halfs a couple don't make. ---> If you want to reply this post, use OFF-TOPIC forum.
Lol with your history and why you left after wow other games your a typical newage wow product hahaha i love this seeing players like you totally ruined by wow and after that they can't find a game thats similar to wow so they can't play mmo's anymore, hahaha good job blizzard i realy love this KUDOS to blizzard screwing the whole mentality of newage mmo's community who there first mmo was wow:P
You will experience same with AoC or other mmo's im affraid:P
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I tried WAR, but I just couldn't get into it. I was hoping for DAoC 2, and I got WoW meets DAoC instead.
I'm taking a break from MMO's. I'll play some single player games. I had fun with Fallout 3, although there were to many subways, sewers, adn undergound areas. I got claustrophobic after a while. I like a good RTS now and then, although I haven't played on recently.
I will try TOR when it comes out. I like groupoing games and I am 100% certain TOR will be as solo friendly as you can make an MMO, but what the heck I have to try this one for myself.
Maybe Champions Online, but I only expect it to be fun for 3 or 4 months.
At least no one can say "wait till Darkfall" anymore.
