For a few minutes I was in the character creation menu before the server crashed. My screen resolution was 1680*1050 and the character models looked very stretched.
Is it possible that darkfall does not support widescreen? I read many discussions about this with different opinions. Some people says there is streching in widescreen resolution, some say not. All beta videos in widescreen that I saw were strechted.
Can someone from beta give an answer to this. Is there a way to rid of this scretching? I dont want to play with huge black borders or in windowed mode.
Thanks in advance

I had streaching, but I play in window mode so I never bothered to try and fix it when full screen.
But I have heard it is not supported.

You are correct, from my experience in 5 weeks of beta and several threads within the beta boards... there is no Widescreen support!
And guess what, it's the 2nd month of 2009.. wierd isn't it?

I am very disappointed. Hopefully they add widescreen support soon, this is a necessary feature nowadays.
Thanks for the clarification.
There is no widescreen support, nor is there likley to be as the dev’s want everyone to have the same FOV; supporting widescreen would make that impossible, the only other solution would be to have corrected screen ratio with black borders. As some may already know the game has a very limited fov anyway, this is to create a sense of danger and make sneaking up on a player from behind easier.

I have not played yet but would it be a issue to cut the upper and lower border in widescreen resultion, so the FOV for "widescreener" would be smaller (but only vertical)? Maybe then the FOV is to small, I dont know.
An other and very simple solution would be to have black borders but the UI could be used there. I think this would be miles better than have scretched models.
Hopefully they add something like that soon.
There does seem to be a 1680x1050 resolution in the options.....
we've been hoping that all through beta.
here's to hoping a bit more...
Erm there's a 1920x1200 option in my settings which is 16:10.
Yes it supports widescreen resolutions, I myself use wide screen and was in closed beta, what it doesn't do is correct the screen ratio. The easiest way to test your selves is to switch between a traditional 4:6 screen res and one like 16:10. If the game were correcting screen ratio, chars would not appear to have different dimensions across screen resolutions, they should simply scale in size, here however, they do not, wide screen results in squashed fatter chars. Besides the devs already posted very early in closed beta why they took the decision for their approach we just have to get on with it.

Bro, that^^ may be the most ignorant post in the world...!
Darkfall does NOT support widescreen or wide aspect ratios. Being able to see an image or play a game on a widescreen doesn't mean it's supported... are you really that retarded, honestly?

That is correct.
People with wide screen monitors (wich is almost everyone nowadays), will just have to play with and against fatty characters.
This is an extremely stupid decision, since in all other mmorpgs that do support actual widescreen chop off a portion of the top and bottom of the screen to take away any advantage it would give. Wich surprisingy results in people with widescreen having less of an advantage.
I would say that I'm surprised that AV din't look into how other mmorpgs do this and why, but I'm really not surprised at all.
Anyway, it hardly matters, since people who enjoy the game are not bothered by character graphics.
This is me in beta using 1680x1050 fullscreen.
Edit: Changed image host. Image shack auto-resizes images now it seems...

I noticed the stretching once when I was playing around with resolution settings and windowed mode, but I didn't get the problem again after that. I suggest you try the same in live; just switch modes a bit and maybe restart the client after you performed a /gui_persist_save.
Supporting and displaying on wide screen resolutions is not the same as correcting aspect ratio for any given resolution, it just happens that everyone expects it to be done automatically now.
The game allows you to select and will display at widescreen resolutions, ergo, they are supported. The game doesn't correct the aspect ratio however, as that would result in a greater FOV for widescreen resolutions. For example, old tv shows and films will still display on a widescreen television, but are stretched, squashed, or parts of the screen left black; the set still displays the show at widescreen resolutions, but it is not displayed at the correct aspect ratio.
Correcting aspect ratio is done to ensure geometry appears correctly, and that familiar items are not stretched or squashed so as to appear unnatural. While every screen resolution has a natural aspect ratio, that is not the same as displaying a scene of any given fov, at a corrected ratio; the test for correct ratio being maintained, is the ability to display a circle so that it still appears to be perfectly round at any given screen resolution.
I am neither your bro nor the one displaying ignorance, but have a nice day all the same.

Then their way of thinking is behind the times then, what Pc gamer isn't using a widescreen these days? That was done for online fps games for a time when widescreen was farily new on the scene as a option for Pc gamers, now it's all widescreen support in the PC FPS genre as everybody has it. It's the basic standard now. Those who'd be at a disadvantage with the FOV for not having a widescreen is now the very small minority of cheap skates. Why cater to a minority of cheap skates stuck way behind the times in terms of where Pc hardware and Pc gaming is right now? Even the cheap package Pc deals are now throwing in widescreens.
I am neither defending nor attacking their decisions here, simply passing on what was said by the devs in early beta as their explanation for the decision. For what it’s worth, I agree and said so during beta, but that really has no place here, as my saying so serves no useful purpose.

Bro,
If a game doesn't correct the aspect ratio, then it must streatch the image to met the desired resolution, which means (that resolution) isn't supported...! How do you not understand this?
Now, when you can't even choose the resolution you want, it means it cannot even DISPLAY that resolution. Such as if Darkfall could only be played at 800x600... etc.
Since you can choose 1920 x 1200, but it doesn't dispay it properly, it isn't supported...! Windows itself is capable of displaying any resolution, so the word "support" means "correctly".
Either way, it's piss-poor and 80% of the people in the worl use widescrrens now. So just another incompetent non-feature Aventurine has missed.

I think widescreen support is an issue the devs are aware of and 'is being looked into'. There was much whining in the beta boards and this is a response to one of the many PM's by one of the forum admins...
