Game fixed and whole yet?

Did they add in all the cool stuff they were going too?  Does it run better?

Majority of technical issues are sorted out, the OOM and constant lag spikes people had early on is as good as gone. There are still some reports on lag, but it seems to be regian specific lag as majority of Norwegians I talked too ingame does not experience lots of lag. We get the odd lagspike but other then that the game runs very smooth and stable now.

Content has been added and some of the new raid content does need som work still to be optimal, but T2 content is startin to become quite nice from what I hear.  Ymir's pass is added to cut down the grind from 55-62 and we only miss tarantia common district to cut off the grind from 75 to 80.

Itemization is the next big patch, but crafting has been improved by adding more recipes and making items slightly better. If itemization never was a issue for you, I think you will find the game a lot better then before, specially if you left sortly after launch. I played since launch and still having great fun ingame, the changes that the game has seen has been both good and bad, but necessary for the game to improve. Best thing is to test it out for yourself to seee what you think, itemization patch will come around q2 some time so might be an idea to wait for that as that patch might just change the game quite a lot. But as mentioned if items and their meaning never was a issue you might just find the game way more enjoyable now.

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
    On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

Don't give your hopes, Funcom promised the world and delivered AoC.

Though the game isn't ready to be played by the masses yet, otherwise they would give out free trials and let people who left come back and try it out again.  Just keep checking your junk e-mail folder.

Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

I beleive the game is ready to played by the masses. And i don't think that free trials are based on whether FUNCOM think the game is ready for the masses or not. After all they released an unfinished game that they deemed was ready for the masses ! Even though it was clear that it was the wrong thing to do and they won't be releasing a trail in a hurry until they are sure that it is indeed properly fixed, ala VG.

Free trials normally come after a year or so, however for games like AoC that had bad launches this may come sooner to entice players back, and they may wait till after the next patch to do so, although I am speculating.

The main points I found wrong with the game were lack of graphical optimisation and content at the higher levels as well as general polish and annoying bugs. For me these issues have been sorted out.

Itemisation would be nice to have updated as well and this is coming in the next patch i hear.

I guess it depends on what you deem fixed. The game ran great and I found no bugs when I retried it recently. I had no CTD's or memory errors, the patcher seemed to work better etc. They have added a buttload of new content to fill in some of the holes, but I became bored of it pretty quickly and for me at least though the game was still needs more variety in playing options and itemization before I could make it my main or even secondary game.

This is just my personal opinion however and like i stated in my first sentence, depends on what you classify as fixed. If it was broken for you because of tech bugs, performance and holes in the content then those are fixed. If it was other things then maybe not.

This about sums it up. I'm still an active AoC player and I'd have to say that the game is very polished now, but the big bummer is still the lack of armor graphics. Everything looks the same until level 80 dungeon crawls.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

That is the issue....Funcom said it will be releasing the free trials when the average subscription length gets longer. Otherwise they don't make a profit, per Q4 08.

So when trials and X player win backs come out, it would be a good time to go back to see. Though I wasn't impressed after playing recently......the game is so close yet so wrong in so many core game play areas IMO to please the masses.

Interesting, could you elaborate on what you would like to see in Aoc, when you mention "more varierty on playing options"?

I think you are dead on there, they are very close to making this a great game, but there is still something needed to push it over the finish line for me at least. The itemization might just close the deal for me.

to use another game as a example when I fire up LoTRO I can work on adventure levels for my non maxxed characters, or look for normal or rare crafting supplies, or do some crafting, or farm some coin,or work on traits, or work on fine tuning my traits, or finding that final piece of yard furnature for my house, or go do a silly quest such as the 'chicken play" , or do PvMP as a Freep or a Creep, or participate in one of the seasonal events that Turbine regulary has, or work on my book and epic quests some of which are solo some are group.

With AoC I saw very little to do except do quest chains or PvP which I don't even do a Freep in LoTRO, I enjoy my Creep though.

Many features are still not in.

This is the way I look at it.

If you liked the game, but were upset over bugs and crashes and other various issues, then you will enjoy it now (this was me...)

If you did not like the game because of the missing stuff like gear, raids, etc...you MAY like it now as some enhancements have been made.

Hate Funcom? Pissed the box said DX10 and it was not in and is still not in? Never go back.

I am enjoying myself, but have questions about issues that persist, like the little things... Always midnight when you login, no shadows for horses...basically stupid stuff that should never happen.

Yet, the game is compelling in story, combat and over all visual quality.

So, decide what player you are from above, then decide if you wish to go back.

I am new and think this game is some of the more amazing gamepices out there. I have not seen anything wrong with the game till now. I will probably get a few things down on my list as I move along, but... AoC is a good game... And looking on the last patch, they got a lot of new stuff into the endgame so I hardly think there should be any more issues with content. I'll give a report once I have played more.

I am with Openedge, Jackdog & Co.

The game is stable, it has a nice story and is fun to play. But it's still not complete.

If you play now I am sure you will have some fun, as I do. But it will be much better when everything is in (huge issues are itemization and crafting, and then comes some other RP stuff to do like housing, etc...).

To give you an idea: they have now added crafting recipes. I am now with 1 char in my early 50ies and during the past 5 levels I have dropped only 1 recipe, and it's not even for my profession. And this is the first recipe I have ever dropped. Useless.

I think the foundation of the game will really begin to be alright with patch 1.05 (major itemization and crafting updates).
