I hate deleting characters and like playing different characters at different times. For me limiting the number of characters to 4, means I will not last 4.5 years as I did in EQ 1. I had 2 accounts both full on my main server, plus a few on the specialty servers.
So less characters means less longevity and I will play a while and leave to spend my money elsewhere. (lasted 3 months with 1 char in SWG).
"A dev posted on the beta boards that 1 EQ2 character takes as much storage space as an entire EQ1 account(and you could have alot of characters on EQ1) so I understand wehy they would limit it."
Storage space costs a heck of a lot less than when EQ 1 came out, so things balance out.....

Not true at all. First off there are businesses, companies, and organizations called.... <long dramatic pause> Non-Profit Orginizations. Guess what, they don't want your money, in fact it is against the law for them to charge people money for their products and services. Contrary to popular belief, there are many, many of people who care more about their product or service and sharing it with others freely, than about making a quick buck off of you.
Secondly, there are many For-Profit Orginizations who also care more about making a great quality product, with quality service, for reasonable prices than getting rich by scamming others. Yes, they do want to make money, after all it keeps them in business doing what they want and love, but not to the extent of only caring about their customers cold cash. For example, if a bakery persists in giving people stones when they ask for bread, they will find that their customers will go elsewhere.
I'm of course not saying that SOE would stoop so low as to even consider doing something like this, just that there are many different types of people and companies who wouldn't think twice about doing it.
Here's to hoping that we will see many more companies who don't care about making money over making a great product, pleasing the consumer, or a real love for their chosen art (heaven forbid that this should ever happen).

Yea, thanks for the mind blowing info there buddy. Tell me is SOE, or any gaming company for that matter, a non profit organization? I'll pause here to see if you can find any. (Im talkin' main stream companies, not little web based things either)

No? Didnt think so. I realize there are such things as NPOs but that really isnt relevant to this coversation. But I'll amend my statement just for you:

Yes, I am well aware I'm a smartass, so no need to point it out unless you really want to.

The consumers show how pleased they are by buying a product. Money is the measure of how popular a product is. The company finds out what people want and then they make that and sell it. Is it wrong to be rewarded for the hard work in making it? If you don't like how much they charge for it, then go make your own game and see how much money you make. That is how the world works. If you don't like how much money they make off their games, then blame the consumer (you know, the other half of this equation). They can't make money unless people give it to them out of free will. Every person who buys a game makes a choice that the game is more important to them than whatever amount of money they parted with to get it.
By the way, I've played many a free mmorpg and most of them suck. Maybe you'd be better off playing a game with no funding for graphics or customer support. Everytime the wind blows and you lose connection, you can sit there and say "ohm" and contemplate why companies need to make money.
