    Thanks for the info.

Historian, are the Acclaim forums down right now? I haven't been able to get on them all day.

Probably yet another heavily moderated chat, where no actual questions will be answered, just general bladibla how awesome game is and how successful they expect it to be, while the oposite is sort of obvious.

Just like that interview they posted on their site, where their PR claims that the EU launch was a success. No kidding, they maybe got whole 100 people playing on a server.

Or maybe.... it will be like that time the Historian had the developers answer some questions for us. They answered both of my questions! One of which even contained a moderate criticism of TCoS.

I have an idea. I'll assume your biased exageration of 100 people on a server is correct and we'll see how many subscribers TCoS will have after its released to the world. I'll even use some basis of fact in my calculations.

100 people currently per server playing during prime time. There are 6 servers so we'll assume there are 600 people playing TCoS total during prime time. TCoS is currently released to 2% of the world population. When it is released to 100% of the world population we'll see roughly 50 times those numbers giving us 30,000 people logged on during prime time. Since only about 10% of subscribers can be counted on to be logged into the game at any given time then that would put the TCoS sub numbers around 300k active subscriptions. The developers would be quite pleased with those results.

Personally I think that number is bogus. It will more likely be in the 50k to 100k range. I also think your 'off the cuff' and certainly biased estimate is equally bogus.

Yeah I read that, they answered  "politically correct" questions - nothing about what actually people were talking about on Acclaim forums for weeks, like crap Acclaim site, crap publishing policy in Europe and so on. Can't blame them for that much, since it is something not many companies dare to talk about and rather hide their heads in the sand, but that's kind of difference between honest PR and soap bubble kind of PR that TCoS is doing.

As for the numbers, where you got 2% of gamer population from? TCoS is already released in all major European gaming countries except UK and Spain and failed misserably there.Of course there are some gamers in all other countries, what maybe can count for 10% of EU gaming market, but I really doubt that Acclaim will pull out elaborate campaign in those to make any difference.

Now normally in world wide releases EU and NA combined has roughly about 50% subscribtions and Asia has another 50% (unless game really fails either in Asia either in the West). EU is pretty much lost teritory for TCoS, unless they combine American and EU servers, so some people may stick around.

In any case 3 months after release in EU 100 people online on the server is optimistic estimate - and it is not even prime time, but more like at all, including people who still wait for their 3 month game time to expire. It was sort of confirmed by quite a few people in game and in the forums - past trial zone, there hardly are people and in trial area when you speak to the folks half of them are bored Americans proxying the trial. So well, if you got 600 people as your 25% of player base total, it does not look optimistic.

Then of course things might get better for them in NA - but only if the sole cause of the fail in Europe is bad publishing deals. If the problem is game itself - what seems to be the case also - it will have same problems as EU release has.

I did the math. Look up the population of the few countries where it is currently released. Compare that number to the world population. It was actually around 2.5%, but close enough for forum work.

You are welcome to verify that number. I would welcome a second look at it.

Putting things into perspective like that makes me wonder why the heck they ever decided that it needs six servers for that area. Its no wonder the servers feel dead! Most niche games like this need no more than about four to six servers for the entire game population.

Yes and if you look at the MMO gaming population it is even less than the 2.5% of the population of those countries. That is the historical MMO population I am talking about. US, ASIA is were the MMO gaming population is and were the money is not a part of Europe. There is nothing suprising or unusual about what has happened.

The chat went extremely well for those that care.

Marketplace is coming in the next patch

IP blocking was being removed for the euro servers when acclaim launches

    Closed beta starts next week

Arena system is coming along with pvp incentives

World pvp was a huge goal. They are working on outdoor objectives as we speak.

Instances added and more coming with each patch as they tweak them some.

Everyone should be pretty excited. A game where the developers are very gung ho about world pvp from a small publisher should be given a bit of slack. Especially one where you dont have to buy the box, you just start up monthly payments after your free period.

    When is Acclaim launching?

  • ValtharValthar Member Posts: 59

They gave a definite that Closed beta is next week. Open beta and final launch should not be to far after that. No exact date yet though.
