Think there might be a problem there.

Most mmorpgs now kinda ask for a wideband connections like Adsl, cable etc.. You need to patch games, and the amount of data transfer is high.

I think its possible to run it in a 56k.. but you will probably neeed a very good pc to lower the lag. You may think a good pc or a bad one dont have nothing to do with lag.. but they do :) Since you computer is receiving data at a slower rate.. you need it to pump fast all the other stuff he needs to do.

I use a dial up modem and have never had a problem running any MMORPG.  They take suprisingly little band with.  I live out in the country and my choices are dial up or satellite.  I have shared a dial up on daoc and had both games running fine as long as there were not 100 people in a raid.  You will have no problem running eq2 on dial up.  The only bad part is downloading the patches.

You should see very little difference between playing on a dial up or high speed in this game.  I have seen it run on both ISP types.

Your actual gameplay on 56k should be fine.... downloading the patches is going to be a very painful experience for you though ::::16::

from what i understand, the first patch is supposed to be pretty big. I heard a guy complaining about it yesterday. Cant say for sure as I havent gone to pick up my copy yet.

I remember playing DAoC on 56k. I rarely had problems with lag or anything as I had a very good isp, but patches were insane. It would sometimes take an hour to get it downloaded and start playing. When they released the Darkness Falls expansion I was downloading all night. I suspect the patches for EQ2 will be even larger.

10 mins on cable supposdely for first patch... soo.. maybe like 200 mbs? eq2 on 56k.. well... first time you hit zones you prolly hgave a long ass dl/load... pretty sure you dont preload zones in eq2 anyways... hopefully your 56k doesn't affect others.. I remember in eqlive 56kers would ruin game for me :( whenever I algged, I shouted if anyone ahd 56k.. and sure enough.. someone did.. dont think they should be happenign though.. should it? was kind of early eqlive..

Well, the updates will take a looong time, yes.

As for 56k, MMORPGs take up surprisingly little bandwidth. You may have some problems in bigger cities, but not much. Even raids are limited to 24(?) people, so you won't lag much there either.

i used to play EQlive on 56k then i upgraded a bit after playing for a while and really did not notice any difference between 56k or dsl except for the patch downloads took 1/4 the time on the dsl to d/l.

200MB initial patch through a 56k dial-up @4KB/s will take about 14 hours, and since most ISP force a disconnect after 12 hrs continuous connection, hope the patch pickes up where the d/c breaks the patch d/l, else one will never get through that initial 200MB patch.

Main issue will be patching and yes if the patcher remained the same in live version it continues  from the last completed file.

Just pray it does not break on a 40mb file or something like that.
