Darkfail Status Report - From the Front Lines

Ashton692Ashton692 Member Posts: 138

Just the fact:

- I'm sitting in a vent with 40 other people that cant relog in.

- The forums and irc communication channels to Aventurine have been shut down.  There is no was for us to communicate with the company short of finding a phone number and phoning greece.

- When I was in game, about 4 hours ago, dsyncing errors caused it to be unplayable.  Couldn't see all the other players, couldn't see the mobs, but both could potentially see you.

- Queueing errors could only be solved by deleting your character and restarting from scratch.  Of course after that the inital name was locked.

- Laggy as hell in game.  No different as you move 3 to 4 segments away from newb areas.

- Bind stones dont always work - give you and error.

- Bind Recall sometimes crashes you, sometimes doesnt.

- Lots of random crashes, including some BSDs.

- I will spare you the rest of the gruesome details.

- 1 day late on release, if you even consider it released because you can't buy the game unless you were lucky enough to preorder.  Its essentially a paid beta.

I'm not angry.  Aventurine didn't really do anything different.  They are no different then anyone else in the market.

For the sake of the lone fact that there really isn't any other appealing mmo's on the market, I sure hope AV can correct their mistakes and produce a playable game in the near future. If not... then I'm glad I waitied to see how the pre orders faired in the game.

1 day, One day and everyone is going crazy? Give it time. They are a NEW company. If It's not better in two weeks, then say it sucks and AV is horrible blah blah blah what ever it is you people do.

Shenanigans!  They are not a new company.  They've been putting this game together for 6 - 8 years.  Their total player population (based on pre-orders) is ridiculously small.  They should not be having these problems.  The fact that they are points to incompetence.

Regardless, I actually want to try this game.  I sincerely hope they get their act together, and quickly, for their sake.

I have connected to the game at 17:00 GMT. I was able to create the character, log in, get quests and go to goblin spawns. I have seen all the mobs and people at that time, although there was a mild desync meaning that it was impossible to fight moving mobs as they were about 2 seconds behind. Nevertheless it was still playable.

At 20:00 my friend loged on and had a sync issue - he basically saw most of the people standing at single spot; they seem to run or turn at the single spot although they in reality move around normally. When I have relogged, I had the similar issues. We went exploring (he saw me but I did not see him aside of the unmoving desynced frozen avatar, but the map when in party showed him where he saw himself standing normally) but the lag got worse (much more people on at that time I guess) and after running around for a while we gave up. No crashes or failed login attempts encountered, the game looks fine, skills work etc., but the desync makes it unplayable.

Well im on official forums forestchild as account name and ive from november last year several times with some other long followers ask devs to delay game becouse its just not finished but no they keep pushing a date to release it soon when new batch of player on 25th of februari came again said pls delay its just not fnished.

We all know who have played beta game was just not finished by far and game keep crashing they constantly say it was becouse of debug mode well my ass debug mode game needs at least 3 months more to be ready for launch.

But this all happen prolly becouse they need the money other wise they go bankrupt i can think of other reason why they push this game now to release.

Now i hope they can fix it all and survive it aint looking good at moment but i keep faith.

Collected enough for guild and 1k missing for claiming a city (9k already). Yeah, pretty unplayable.

Regardless, they're a incredibly small company with limited resources with roughly only 30-35 employees. And over the past 8 years the game has had multiple changes in developers and staff. I would honestly like to see anybody do better in the same circumstances.

Yes but if you were in this situation you wouldn't come out with comments like "it could release today" and "it is in a better state than a lot of current MMO's" when you knew that wasn't true. Indie developers are fantastic. Indie developers with delusions of grandeur ... not so much.

And how is that relevant to me, given that the actual game sucks far worse than the alleged "fails" AoC and WAR ?

To some it could be unplayable, it depends on what system they have matched against what systems the beta players were playing on. Let's not forget everyone does have different configurations.

This is bad business practices and is textbook.
This type of behavior should not be condoned by any company at all. And because they are small and have a lot to risk, its even more disconcerting for them than it would be for a larger company who would have the resources to handle these issues effectively.

Yes, but I think the point everyone is missing is they don't have unlimited funds, as much as I disagree with it I'm almost willing to bet they released it when they did to make money to make things better, Which is why I will give then two weeks to a month before I make my choice.

Dungeon Runners was an experiment project for NCSoft and developed with almost no budget.  It launched successfully and sees over 10k unique visitors/month (it has a very, very small population).  The staff, at one point, was up to 18 total dedicated team members, but is now down to 5.  Regardless, they were able to launch their product, make it profitable enough to keep it running and provide regular updates.  When I mentioned to one of my friends, a former designer for Dungoen Runners, that Aventurine had procured a 20 Million Euro bond last year (and a 25 million Euro bond in conjunction with AudioVisual) and budget of 10 million Euros (per Tasos) and asked him what the team could have done with that money, he about choked.  Even with just the 10 million, they could have done so much more.

KingsIsle Entertainment, Inc. is an independent developer and publisher founded in 2005.  They have less than 100 total employees. They've already shipped their first title and it's a resounding success with over 1 million unique accounts (obviously fewer unique, subscribed players) that has actually added servers within their 5 or 6 months live.

In the case of Dungeon Runners, they were essentially "sponsored" by NCSoft, but had no budget to speak of  (especiallyf or marketing) and had to cobble the game together from remants of code from two previous development teams' efforts on a canned MMO (Exarch) from at least 3 years earlier.  In the case of Kingsisle, these are obviously folks who know how to get things done.  They secured money, hired talent and were able to get a successful product out the door in less than three years.  Oh yeah, they're also working on a second project, too.

The point is, other people have done it.  Heck, Blizzard wasn't always the behemoth it is today.  Everybody starts somewhere.  This is Aventurine's chance to shine and I really, really hope they do.

Well unfortunately if you are in a guild that wants to make an impact in the gameworld, then you have to get in early to claim your stake so waiting wasn't an option for many. Most of the members of my guild crashed to desktop and now crash everytime they login. I never once crashed to desktop in all my time in beta..

Aventurine sucks the sweat off a deadman's balls.

http://www.prairiegames.com/ a MMORPG made by TWO (YES TWO) people that has  12 Races, 16 Classes, and 3 Realms. And they did not have any of the problems Darkfail is having. And thats by two people a husband and wife team.

So take that lame ass excuss and shove it because its not going to fly. Rather you have 1 person or 100 people and you make a product. Your customers damm sure expect the product you marketed and sold to them.
