Combat System: reality interval or non-reality interval?

not sure if anyone bring this up yet.

what kind of blade slashing combat system you prefer in mmo? reality blade slashing interval or non-reality interval?

example:

reality blade slashing interval:

Age of Conan / GuildWars / Lineage2 / Archlord / RFonline / Soul of the Ultimate Nation / Rappelz

non-reality blade slashing interval:

World of Warcraft / Warhammer Online / Lord of the Rings Online / EverQuest2 / Vanguard / Aion

as for me i prefer reality blade slashing interval

ps. not about which mmo title is better.

Neither. I like a game which develops a combat pace that is relative to the situation at hand. Oddly, AoC does get that part right despite at everything that it fails to fulfill.

non-reality interval is too slow for me, i cant stand it.

I don't see much difference between the two groups, if you are going by auto-attack speed well I happen to have a problem with auto-attack all together, I would rather my character attack when I press a button not all my himself every how many seconds he feels like swinging.

I do prefer the systems like WoW and Warhammer, especially for melee, because I press an attack and my guy does it, instant cast, much more responsive that way.  AoC tried to do one better my making all my attacks instant and letting me do combos but the overall system felt sluggish.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I have no idea what you're taking about, so I'll just say whichever one Guild Wars does.

that would be reality blade slashing interval.

auto normal attack is hella slow on non-reality interval system although at higher level you'll spam skill instead but still i feel uncomfortable on non-reality bladeslashing interval mmo. and usually the game that has non-reality blade slashing always have weak sound effect (wow/war/lotro/eq2) exception aion/requiem.

I dont know why u call it reality and non-reality but i kinda understand your point here and ill go with reality. I really cant stand the games that have stupid combat animations that look like your charecter doesnt even know how to fight like in wow or war(just some classes in war) I really like lineage 2s and ff11s,cabals, and... some other games that make your pc look like a true warrior.

I was hoping for an explanation, not merely repeating what you incoherently said in your original post.

Reality blade slashing= attacking like you would in real life, you don't stop for big gaps of time for the other monster/player to attack you like in WoW. I am correct??

I prefer fighting like guildwars (Reality of course) I don't like the slow pace combat that WoW or any game similar delivers.

good to hear you understand what im saying. i cant think of any word to describe it so i use reality and non-reality but the two game group should boost up people to understand.

yeah those asian title mmo knows how to make fighting animation look realistic and in reality interval. ff11 may not be reality interval but fighting animation sure is nice. lineage 2 dark elf female swinging their sword with spinning their sword  on their hand and thats normal attack look realistic fighting. rappelz when land a crit shows their body animation spinning or jumping which look realistic fighting and thats normal attack same goes to rohan. compare those with wow/war.. make wow/war look yuky.

Im confused...Are we talking about cool looking animations, or realistic ones?

The ONLY game that is even close to having realistic attack intervals is Mount&Blade.

  • JosherJosher Member Posts: 2,818

Good looking animation, be it exagerated or realistic and responsive control is key.   That makes combat fun.  WOW it tops there for me.  You press a button and it happens instantly and still looks good.  No delay.   WAR is an example of how NOT to do it.  Out of synch, slow, unresponsive, BAAAAAAD.  AOC looks good in motion but sluggish in practice.  GW is barely a MMO, closer to Diablo, so it doesn't count, but the combat is well done.

Darkfall hits new lows in bad animation and combat flow=)

i guess both. main one is about the attack interval which lead to attack animation which lead to ect.. but main one is attack interval.

i'll borrow twistedfire quote to translate for me:
