This was just posted on the WoW site:
Okay guys... the number of characters per account is...*drum roll*
Up to 10 characters on any one realm, and up to 50 characters total per account.
*does a backflip* Ta-da!

Yay. 
Also, 2 RP servers are open. One eastern, one pacific. Both are PvE servers, though, which is kind of a bummer.
