Rumors of Darkfall's lack of widescreen support had me worried that I would't e able to make full use of my rig. I game at 4320x900 thanks to a Matrox TripleHead2Go and 3 LCDs (plus a 4th for other stuff). Here's a low-res call phone pic of my setup:
When I first fired up the game, I was treated to a horribly stretched screen as I expected.

Luckily I was able to quickly discover a simple workaround. Here are a couple random screenshots at 4320x900 resolution.

Hopefully I'll be able to get out and explore some more this weekend.

dude you are just trolling
wow the level some people go to
Is that photoshop?
Haha wtf do you think?
Photoshop, though I wouldn't be surprised if you could hack the game to get proper widescreen.
if its real, whats the work around?

I know I have used my first post to come into this thread (since the official forums went down I've been browsing here), so I will probably be ignored, but there was a guy on the official DF forums that kept asking about this rig setup, asking if he could utilize it.
So, unless it is just one big faker in both places (or I guess could even just be a faker here, I realize this), this is a legit thread and is not photoshopped.
But, who knows. We will see.
Wow, don't think I'd ever want to play on multiple screens, let alone something this stretched... Just the gap between 2 or more screens would be enough to piss me off and stop me from playing, I'd rather buy just a large 50" screen if I wanted a wider one but my 22" Samsung is more than enough for me ATM. Waste of money IMO.
You have no idea what you're talking about. If you play on a big 50" screen, you're just seeing the same picture blown up huge. When you play on 3 monitors, you see 3 times as much. You gain peripheral vision, which can be a huge advantage in a game like Darkfall or in shooters like Counter-Strike. And as for the monitor bezels, they disappear after about 3 seconds. It's just like looking out a really wide window.
As for the screens, yes they're real. Here are screens from Conan and WoW for comparison

I'll fraps a video and upload it this weekend so you can see what it's like in motion.
OK, perhaps you're right. Still, I just don't think I'd be able to get used to that.
lol youre not seeing 3 times as much, youre seeing the same thing I am, just streatched heh.
cool rig tho, never seen one like it heh

You're an idiot. Here's a screen I did for iRacing as an example. The Bars represent the monitors' bezels. I see 3 times as much.

lol no you dont.
silly man.
its neat that it gives you the illusion as to seeing more and all but yeah, no.

I'm sure TENS of thousands of people are wondering now how you got this to work for Darkfall.
Since for everyone else it stretches.
off topic..
whats iracing like was gonig to sign up to it but never got around to it..
Oh really?
Then why was that the exact reason that Aventurine decided to not use actual widescreen aspect ratio in Darkfall?
They didn't want to because it would give people an unfair advantage, because they would see more.
But you can't be convinced. He already showed you a screenshot of that race game as proof. You are like a lemming who jumps down a cliff while screaming "I'm not jumping down the cliff!".
Can you give us any details on the workaround? Also, would this workaround work for a single-monitor (widescreen) setup as well?
Talk about ignorance at its best, OFC he sees 3 times as much and its not an illusion, when you change the resolution of the screen it adjusts the Horizontal Field of View of the camera for that resolution (to stop stretching) the bigger the resolution the bigger the field of view, you will see less at 800* 600 than at 1024 * 768, this is not arguable this is a fact and a basic concept on real time rendering.
Edit: My bad there if you were responding to the 50" then you are right it doesnt matter if you have 3 screens or a 50" if the resolution is the same you will see exactly the same, the key here is field of view the matrox head2go simply splits a massive resolution into 3 screens, a single works the same way so if you have a 50" or whatever screen with a matching resolution to the one being passed to the 3 screens the field of view would be exactly the same so NO you wouldnt be seeing 3 times as much for having 3 screens.
Which is why I'm reluctant to post it. I don't want them to fix it so I have to play Darkfall on only 1 monitor. It's hard to go back to 1 after playing with 3 in every game. That being said, it was really quite easy to get working. I did it by accident the second time I launched the game.
I'd suggest some research on the Matrox TripleHead Tech. If that is to much, maybe just think about how a character would look like if it would just be stretched to that aspect ratio, as you suggested it.
I's also be interested in the form of the workaround the OP found, however.
If you like motorsports, it's the most realistic sim out there. I've raced with several professional drivers on the service which has been a really fun experience. It really requires a big equipment investment if you want to be competitive ($300 min for a G25, but then you'll probably want a better shifter and pedals), but like I said if you're seriously interested in racing nothing else compares.
Had to register and post just to say I love the rig --- I've got the exact same setup! Can you explain the workaround? Haven't played the game yet but it doesn't support 5040x1050??
Those are three 22's right??
Yes you can see more, and yes it does give an advantage. The game has to properly support 3 monitor setups to avoid squishiness but other than that it's amazing, you don't notice the bezels after 5 minutes.
Nice setup man...i was allways thinking about doing that after I found out it worked for AOC. Hey does having to render that much more view kill your framerate or does it even make a differnece on the load of your vid card?
Have they ever officially come out and said that, or is that just an idea that has come from forum goers & beta testers? I see a bunch of people saying they don't support widescreen because Aventurine thinks it's an advantage, but I haven't seen anywhere where they've said that themselves officially.
The higher your resolution the more pixels have to be drawn you need a good gfx card for such a massive resolution, the matrox head2go simply takes a single "screen" and splits it into 3, the larger the resolution the more gfx power you will need.
The drain on your system depends on what resolution you would be running otherwise. I had a 24" monitor at 1920x1200 before I got these 3 20" for the triplehead setup which I'm now running at 1440x900x3.
1920x1200=2,304,000 pixels
4320x900=3,888,000 pixels
So my system is having to draw about 40% more now than it would otherwise. You just need enough power to compensate. I have an ATI HD4870 video card and 6 GB of RAM to help out, but my CPU/mobo combo is about 2 years old now. I'm sure there are people here with better PCs than I have.
