I have never in my life played an mmo where they are so full of shit when it comes to eta and time lines as dfo is, and have never played an mmo where they keep people in the dark as much as they do here! This is just rediculious. This is why companies hire public relations people to deal with their communities instead of letting the computer nerds who never leave their house and have no people skill interact with their public. Never have I seen such incompatence when it comes to communication and misinformation. Give us a damn update other than that no eta bullshit. this 3-4 hour patch has turned into 10 hours now! with no explinations or updates! fuck aventurine needs to get their shit together already, this is just rediculious
I love how everyone is saying "you must be new to MMOs" to you. LOL Like this level of incompetence is normal. It's not, AV has taken incompetence and botched releases to new and unimagined heights.
I was thinking it might be up by the weekend, now I'm not so sure. If it's taking this long and they thought it'd only be 3 - 4 hours then there must be some major issues and major debating going on. We should start betting on when it'll be up; using darkfall gold (that we dont have)...we'll just make it IOU's. I think it'll will be up and running by next weekend.
Yeah their PR is pretty amazing, and I guess I've learnt from this, that no matter the intentions, no matter the passion, no matter the marketing, day 1 is pretty useless. I waited for 2 weeks before joining AOC...I should have done the same for this. I think we're in for a very bumpy ride for the first month.
The other thing I've learned from this is to pay attention to who is making the MMO, if they've done it before and launched it successfully then I can hold some hope. If its Bioware doing their first MMO: Star Wars, then I won't be touching that for at least 2 weeks, maybe a month. As for them updating us; its very frustrating but I'd rather they didn't waste money on PR and instead put it into the game. At least thats what I thought was going on with DF, can you imagine the disaster if they had run an expensive marketing campaign? It would be so nice though if we just had an hourly 1 sentence update on whats going on...have they all gone to bed? are they stuck? is it almost finished? I wonder why they didn't ask for volunteer testers, with the passion behind this game I would have thought there would be a few pro testers out there who wouldn't mind helping out. I know that highly unprofessional and comprimising, but testing is so damn important... side note, funny how much DF has tanked in the MMORPG rankings over just a day. Before launch it was 8.25? now its down inside 6; just infront of SWG and behind AOC...
Putting BIOWARE in the same light as AV is just BS on your part. Bioware have not made a mmorpg but they have made some fantastic games UNLIKE AV.
Yeah they have, I'm a huge fan of KOTOR and the 2nd, and I acknowledge they've made other great games. But I think there is a world of difference between a good game and an MMO. I think the MMO is where the most money can be made in PC gaming yet its the poorest genre of PC gaming. In the past year; L4D, GTAIV, DOWII, Deadspace; to name a few. L4D the best game I've played since BF2...I'd really struggle to think of an MMO that has given me as much enjoyment. The MMO is a lot harder to get right, I'm not sure if DF is going to be it, I hope so but think my hopes will probably rest with Mortal Online (I haven't checked if Star Vault has done anything previously; I don't think so)
Large and small companies have failed at MMO's. I don't like WOW or EvE but can acknowledge those companies have done something to creat a massive following that are mostly happy with what's on offer. I'm just not after that style of MMO. Can't wait for the day when the best elements of X3, BF2, KOTORs, and L4D are put into an MMO (10 years)
I hold very little hope for Bioware, they're tackling one of the hardest universes that has been dragged through the mud by GL and had a lot of games made as a grab for $$$. I know Bioware won't do that, but I don't think they'll get their first MMO right
I have never in my life played an mmo where they are so full of shit when it comes to eta and time lines as dfo is, and have never played an mmo where they keep people in the dark as much as they do here! Agreed, its only the DF apologists who make this comment, trying to reassure themselves that there's nothing out of the ordinary about how Aventurine handles their PR regarding their issues.
They wrote the book on the code of silence policy when it comes to not keeping people informed about what they are doing. (but this was self-evident during the long development cycle, so should come as no real surprise).
You can't honestly compare anything happening to WOW. Yeah, I played it during the dark days, and even when my sever was down for 3 days in the early going (but at least a month after launch) I got regular updates on the progress of the work going on including promised renumeration almost immediately.
This launch and their handling of it is setting a new all time low that won't soon be exceeded.

While waiting for the buyinig/ordering system to come back online, i have been watching some gameplay videos... Hmm, the idea behind the game is great! The announced features - amazing! But i didnt see it in the in-game videos...
I heard a lot of talk on the forums about the great goblin AI, and how fun it is to kill them, and they act like in "real" combat and stuff like that. Bah, was it a joke or something? From about 30-40 min of in-game footage i have seen - the AI is below weak. Mobs were running like a bunch of headless chickens, muaha-ha-ha, it was sad to look a the poor goblins..
The one feature of this game that was most interesting for me - no auto-lock/auto-target, does not look very useful in PvE at all... I almost wished that the poor guy, who was playing, would get some auto-targeting there, as it looked boring as hell.
But it can be a complete different xp in PvP...
Anyways, i think i will have to wait for a few months before buying this game. The release failed big time, and it takes them way too long time to fix the problems...
Why i write all that? -
PLEASE GIVE PEOPLE MORE INFO!!! - about everything! It feels like a lot of us ( who are waiting for the game to actually be released ) are loosing their trust in DF!

Would you realistically expect most ppl to wait a few weeks or even a month when Biowares MMO hits the shelves? lets be honest here and say NO , everyone talks about waiting and seeing what happens but no one ever listens to good advice because we all know better don't we!!
I for one know I should wait a month before getting a new MMO, will I do that, ofc not because I would honestly like to be in the first batch of ppl to enter the game, faults and all be damned, I'll be frustrated and pee'd off when things don't go my way with server outages and bgs galore but I'l hold that all in and just sit their seething at the screen on my own because I broke my own rules and can only blame myself for entering a game too early.
However you never know, Bioware may get things mostly right and launch a solid product with very few issues, however in MMO land we all know thats a rare occurence.

I think Bioware's only hope is if they bring in successful MMO experienced Dev, Architecture, and Testers. They'll need to spend a hell of a lot on consulting
The irony is, while they don't have a new update, they STILL have the same update from yesterday that pretty much puts on display their incompetence by mentioning 'we'll do this early morning European time' AFTER everyone has already seen they didn't do what they were supposed to.
