Turbine at work on micro-transaction MMO
MMO developer Turbine has confirmed it is working on an as yet unannounced title based on the micro-transactions business model.
Earlier this week, the developer behind Lord of the Rings Online posted a job listing for a micro-transaction and e-commerce manager, prompting fears by fans of its games that the model would be applied to existing MMOs - a theory Turbine has attempted to quash.
"We know the recent job listing has caused a bit of a stir, but please be aware that this posting is for an unannounced future project," said a company representative in the Lord of the Rings Online forum post.

As long as it's not LotRO I could care less. One less game on my radar.
I kinda feel stupid for not knowing what the heck that means...
after googling I realize that I do know what that is, and that I've never heard it called by that name. Strange.
I don't see a large developer working on something like this. Then again, I am probably wrong. If there's profit in it, they will do it.
wow you sound like turbine killed your father and raped your mother.
Oh well whatever. If the game is good and the model works for it then kudos to them. It's not like they are putting you to gun point to play the game. RMT just seems to be the way of a lot of future MMO's.
Yep. Was hoping they would go back to their roots and create a new IP that had a progression system similiar to AC. With this news, though, I really have no interest in the title now. I just hope they don't use an existing IP that I like if they go the established IP route.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

OK, DDO is debatable, but how could ANYONE have done LOTRO BETTER? I can't even comprehend a better translation of Tolkien's work into an MMO. I can't imagine what anyone could have against LOTRO, unless they just don't like Tolkien or they don't like MMOs.
When scary things get scared, that's bad...
With so many bugs currently in LOTRO and the constant answer by Turbine that they don't have enough people to fix them all on time, they are still assigning people to work on another MMO? lol. Instead of perfecting at least one MMO, and such an important one too, they seem to want to make many buggy ones, after all since when do big companies care about their fanbase so long they pay for the sub? For them we are not people, we are 15$ and look all the same To be honest LOTRO needs more developers working on it now than ever before... It's a great game just needs a bit of fixing.
