In light of our difficult economic times ahead, I am starting this thread to compile Ideas for those that are currently unemployed, or soon will be, or for even those who need extra cash due to reduced incomes. I work for myself, and I for one could never stand to work for anyone else again and would like to help people find ways to accomplish this as well. People never need to think they are truely helpless, because when you do you lose the ability to help yourself. Some examples of what REAL people are doing right now to get them through these times :

Working for yourself can be the most rewarding thing you ever do. You no longer feel like you are dependant on others to take care of yourself, your family, or your future. Working for yourself gives you the flexibility to do anything and everything you want. IF something does not work out, do not give up just try something else.
1.If you have powertools, and any craftsman ability you can create furniture and other household items and sell them in your local community, etsy, ebay and on craigslist. This can be very profitable. One mistake however people make is they use " old designs" rather than creating something new, simple and different on their own. There is too much comptetion with the same ol same ol, so if you create something you do not see everyday, it is more likely to sell than just using the same ol same ol patterns.
2. if you can paint or draw using that ability to refinish furniture is wayy more profitable than just working with canvas. I painted the returning of the Knights from battle on a coffee table once and it sold for over a $1,000. I took a free coffe table that I found by a dumpster in college and turned it into $1,000 in 2 days. This is simple for anyone with artistic talent. There is no reason any artist needs to be a starving artist, just use your talents on something useful rather than the same ol same ol.
3. If you are into action figures, Star wars dioramas for the 3 3/4 action figures are always a hot selling item. If you know how to build model airplanes and cars this could be a profitable hobby for you, dioramas are just as easy to make. I Have a friend that does this and makes quite a bit doing this. He sold one yesterday for over $500, for 2 days worth of work that was not a bad deal. They usually sell very quickly on Ebay, so it is not difficult to get them sold.
These are just a few ideas, I will add more later, and would love for anyone else to share their ideas. We have a lot of people hurting for jobs right now and anything to help them enable themselves I am sure would help. There is walys hope, you just have to believe in yourself. Allowing people to make decisions on your future for you puts them in control of your life. Taking control of your life will be the only way many will survive these difficult times.

Some of the things my neighbors and friends are currently doing :
~making gift baskets: My neighbor makes affordable gift baskets starting out at $10 each all the way up to $100 but you get your moneys worth with what she does. She makes get well gift baskets for sick children with coloring books, crayons, teddybears, clay and other indoor activities for children that are injured or too sick to get out and play. She makes mothers day gift baskets as well with candles, picture frames, bath sets. Sexy gift baskets with candles, lotions, toys ect.. she ahs gift baskets for all occassions so she gets plenty of year round business.
~ dog grooming and walking. One of my friends just opened a business doing this and she says she is doing very well.
~ Creating a Local community forum. My Neighbor did this in our area and it has really taken off, he has sponsors and advertisers now , he also sells T-shirts and stickers that have funny sayings on them and promotes his site at the same time. It started by word of mouth and has just really taken off. People volunteer to post local news. He gave every neighborhood it's own section, created a local politics, general news, local news, hobbies, rants and disagreements, science/ tech, religion and inspirational, general discussion , world news, world politics, and many other sections on the site, does not over censor it and it has been doing really well. He asked residents to give him funny sayings to put on the t-shirts and they came up with some really great stuff. Is a great idea for anyone that is good with website building and knows some neighbors in their area to get the word of mouth out.
If you're good at something, never do it for free!
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
LOl this is not true.. Some freebies in the beginning can help you get your name out there for free advertising in the early stages of your business.. It is just you should wisely use your freebies to your advangtage. Passing out product samples is a good way to get started, donations to local charitable events via raffles, auctions ect .. really give you alot of good advertising .
