WoW is like.... DF is like.......

To me, WoW reminds me of McDonald's.   Its very generic but you know what you are getting and its for a good price.   Its a super chain that you can find in your local shopping mall, addvertisements on the TV and along any well traveled highway.    You can't argue with its success even if you are sick of eating the same ole cheeseburgers and refuse to buy another one.

Darkfall is more like a small family owned business.    They have one shop in a lower rent portion of the city.    They make some very delicious food that appeals to those that have the tastes for it.    They don't have uniforms, consistency or the customer relations that consumers expect from the big money super chains but to meet their goals, they don't need it.    Its kind of like the soup nazi.    People who tried the soup and love it are willing to overlook some of the other things and stand in long lines to get the taste of something they long for.

They are two very different things that have appeal to very different consumers in the same prepared food market.

    I approve of your analogy.

i dont approve of the analogy, you forgot to mention that the family owned shop has a sign outside saying

"Better Big Mac's than mcdonald's!" ("its in a better state than most successfull mmo's on the market"), which pretty much destroys your whole analogy, there is no problem in being a small family owned shop where you have really niche homemade food, just dont advertise and make it sound like Gordon Ramsey is in your kitchen cause he is not.

Reminds me of how Godager from Funcom compared WoW to McDonalds and Age of Conan as a "great steak and a glass of good wine."

    Here's the entire quote:

"I enjoy playing WOW, I enjoy playing Lord of the Rings Online. But you know... I'm going to be a bit cheeky now, but if you've been to McDonalds for four or five years, and had your burger and your coke, sometimes it's great to just have a great steak and a glass of good wine. I think that's what we're trying to do. It's more expensive, it's not for everyone and perhaps it's not as easily accessible as WOW is. But it could be more meaty. [laughs]"

Pretty good, except with Darkfall when you walk into the place there are a bunch of people standing around waiting for their food and telling you how wonderful it is even though they haven't eaten it yet. You get up to the counter and the guy there ignores you for 10 minutes then asks 'What the hell do you want?'.

After you order, which is hard because all the while the guy is busy shouting at his mother who is working in the back, he takes the money and tells you that lunch will be at 11am. 2 pm comes around and you still are waiting, but if you try and complain the other people tell you to shut up, and quit whining because the food is so good it's worth waiting for.

When the food does arrive, 6 hours later, it looks like what you ordered, but half of the food has been replaced by small plastic pieces in the shape of food, which no one else seems to notice. You try to say something, but once again you are shouted down by the other customers who tell you that this is the way food is supposed to be and that maybe you just aren't smart enough to appreciate 'real' food.

Except that in your analogy, you make the "family business" actually taste good.

In reality they are feeding you a pile of shit, all the while telling you it's not.

Not a bad analogy... except for Tasos.

If you throw out Tasos and all his BS... then I agree.

Wow is like having sex with your wife on your 10th anniversary. It's an endless grind with a mediocre ending and all you can think about is giving her a good beating, but it just wouldn't seem right.

DFO is like having sex with a hot young prostitute with a nasty crack habit.  You enjoy the grind and hope that it don't end too soon...but at the same time you worry that her pimp might be coming in too beat your ass and steal your money.

Remember that time that logic and proof were a means to conclusions?  Oh ya, that's just a myth; what was I thinking?!  Let's all just keep on lying then :)

I UTTERLY disapprove of your analogy until you add this line:

"The small family business only opened once, served some luke-warm food to a few people, and then closed quickly again - with a big sign that said: WAIT RIGHT HERE - BE BACK IN 30 MINUTES... and that was 4 days ago."

Darkfall like a small business that was open for a few minutes during it's Grand Opening day then closed because there chairs don't work.

For Darkfall, You forgot the part about the food being out of sync and waking up in the back alley with nothing but a starter sword asking WTF is going on..
