2/28/08 - 12:00 A.M. Not Suprised At All.

TacosFlamboyTacosFlamboy Member Posts: 6

hello.

I wanted to share,  I am not suprised at all of DarkFall's current state.  I was an avid beta tester and I was fortunate to get a preorder.  Their servers can not handle these kind of loads,  We will have to wait untill they upgrade their hardware.  Lets not give up hope.  I'm excited to get back ingame, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Really depressed with MMO's currently.  I feel Darkfall will be great fun, granted we stick with it.

You're not the only one who's frustrated.

The pain will be short lived if AV has any intention to succeed, so I wouldn't worry.

Using what funds? It is obvious they are broke  and I am sure the creditors / investors are not going to stand around now that the game "has launched" and wait for their ROI and payments to start.

I will be generous and say they sold 10K copies that is still only 500K. Not much when you owe over 10mil and still have monthly expenses of somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 - 250K (number derived from business 101 and experience).

Their inital sale will barely keep them afloat for the first month. 10K players at 15/mo won't keep them afloat so I hope they have some hidden source of funds and they better tap it quick.

According to the beta testers the game had the same sync issues and was FIXED in beta. Im guessing its only a matter of time for them to get it resolved as a result in the game. IRRESPECTIVE of that if the game is solid its going to gather more suscribes as AV grows the game. BUT! if the game turns out to be a house of cards, IE that it dosnt have anywhere near what the devs promised as features then what will happen? Oh and to the attack hamsters? I can FPS in any number of other games that do it much ... much ... MUCH ... better. This is a mmo, not a fps, even though the lazer towers and plasma farts from the staffs indicate otherwise.

It wont be mainstream thats for sure. But like many of the RaBiD fans have said that wasnt their intention. Which begs the following question, how do they PROPOSE to be PROFITABLE as a result? Hmm? Btw as im typing this im grinning like a wolf. Give me meat and ill tear you open now. this is a commercial enterprise, otherwise it would be FTP.

I'm assuming that the investors are well aware of the extremely high demand for the game.  10k players were all that were allowed in at the moment, with hundreds of thousands, no doubt, left out while desperately refreshing the preorder page.  I'm also assuming that they intend to let in more players before the end of the month, how many, I have no idea.  They have started to bring in some money, even if not a lot.  That money can be used to upgrade the servers and allow more players in to the game, earning them more money.  You have to spend money to make money.  I sincerely doubt that foreclosure is within a month.  To think thay'd wait until that point to release the game is ridiculous.  However, with the way they're handling everything thus far, it's not out of the realm of possibility.  I mean honestly, they sold out the preorders within 3 days.  On top of that, each of those preorders took some poor desperate bastard several hours just to get through.  Imagine what the demand for this game must be.  When there's someone willing to pay for your product, you'll keep selling it.

People don't invest in an MMO to see a profit 24-48 hours after release. I think it may be a bit early to claim the investors are about to mutiny.

Yeah, also, the first month is free so they'll only be getting money from actual copy sales.

Finances are their biggest issue at the moment imo. It's too hard to make a niche game in the current market, costs are simply too high.

You're not the only one who's frustrated.

As I see it, it has nothing to do with server loads. It has to do with game engine synchronization and real time clients requests.

A game engine will not just run by itself, it needs modules to relly on at early stages of development. darkfall probably will be in a constant state of development which is ..well, normal, since they seem to follow a constant update methodology in building this thing which is..well, right.

Modules can later become a part of an engine itself, eg. harcoded inside it, and performance becomes seamless and flowless.

They have their own game engine in. One company decides to build their own engine primarily for two reasons.

1st reason is that it is cheaper against the choice of buying a high tech one. Although there are cheap engines that behave very good and can be custommized at demand and produce amazing results. Jupiter and Jupiter EX =Fear and FEAR 2, = 4,000 dollars only, among many many others. (it just happened to see that engine at work at another project)

2nd reasons is that when a dev team agrees uppon game features, there is alwasy the chance that every existing engine on the market cannot accomodate what they might have in mind. Ussualy revolutionary concepts demand brand new engines build from the ground up.

I believe Darkfall was facing both of these issues I stated while making their decission about what kind of engine they should use.

IF everything from the above = TRUE

THEN = problems will be solved in a small matter of time.

It might feel like an payed open beta, but hey, programming might look like an easy thing to do but in reality this is not the real case. Imagine the "you are sitting in a chair in the sky argument" for example.

    edit:

It might seem as  they made poor choices at first, but, from what I can understand, they did the right thing choosing something that can be constantly updated, restructured, expanded to suit their needs. You don't do this if you don't have in mind to do constant enhancing and adding of new elemets each time.

What it might seem as Darkfalls weakest point, might in fact be the element of success this game has to rely on.

    Give it time.

I can't say i agee , most MMo now have big launches and sale mega copies , then start to lose people.. DF had a bad rep for long dev time and now this mess of a launch .. would be surprised if they sell 50 k more .. but who knows if and when they fix this mess and have no more problems they may get enough to last..

This is a new era about MMOGs.

Revival of UO with modern methods is what we see now.

Latest big thing in the MMO scene was WoW but did not leave many things to be desired for the serious MMO player.

I can assume as far as inovation goes, WoW is dead in that kind of department, since we all know their plan will not change much in the long run and that style does not satisfy many gamers appetites.

Darkfall has a novelty. It launched first in this new era that began after player demand.

Mortal Online comes second, and there will be a tight race. Somehow I have faith in Darkfall because I have a hunch they will introduce more innovations in the future. it might win big or it might crash.

It all remains to be seen. "

It is "core features" complete. Everything a game basically needs to start for example.

It is not complete in any other sense, IMO it will be constantly updated and rearanged. If they have not made a choice like that, I would be afraid their game would be dead in the water even before ti launched. Nobody would do such a mistake.

    ...Right?
