Call for common sense

So I have just cycled through 12 pages of (mostly) hate for this game. I am not (sigh) a fanboi, I am not even playing. I play another game, but I am looking for an additional mmorpg game to play in future. As such I take an interest in new releases.

Just a number of points:

1/ If you want to play with a smooth-ish mmorpg experience then surely it is obvious not to sub to a brand new game off the bat. All new games have troubled launches. If you want to sub to a new release then recognize the fact that it will have many issues at launch, that's the price you pay for being in early. So stop crying like it was some sudden and unforseen breach of your human rights.

2/ It is an indie game. So point #1 above should be even more apparent. If a big-budgeted behemoth is gonna have launch problems then you can hardly cry "fail" if an indie has a shaky launch. You are merely being unrealistic and childish.

3/ If you want a VERY smooth-ish launch then only choose games released by well-funded and recognized publishers. It's like someone buying a gold watch from some guy in a pub then crying foul when it leaks blue all over his wrist.

4/ Even big-budget developers/publishers can't provide a smooth launch. If that became a pre-requisite of every game then it would likley be uneconomical to release any mmorpg.

5/ If you want a smoothly run game, something matching the quality of most single-player games, then play a long-established game like WOW, EVE or LOTRO et al. They have had time to iron out their wrinkles.

6/ Consumer rights and anger about being ripped off are legitimate. But we must balance this within the context of what an mmorpg is and how complex their target audience is. It is not the same as buying a cheesburger.

Surely all the above is just common sense?

don't expect this post to have an iota of influence on the irrational. But I like to spit at the rain occasionally.

Regards

Melmoth

In Internet, common sense have YOU!

I'd bet that 85% of everyone starting these "flaming" threads are just attention whores that likes to stir things up. They probably realize all that crap above...

     You are absolutely right!

    BUT...

Aventurine has been warned high and low that they should do a proper Closed Beta test and an Open Beta/Stress Test!

People have been saying that for a very very long time you know!

Yet Aventurine (aka Tasos) kept bragging they had super duper high advanced AI bot test programs that could do a so much better job at stress testing and that they had 200 professional testers testing the game (yeah right).

And here we are today, more then 3 days after launch.... and it's basically still a shambles.

All this mess they got themselves into these days could have easily been prevented.

This whole Darkfall launch is a classic example of a Selffulfilling Prophecy as so many people with an actual Common Sense predicted this would happen!

I don't agree 100% with point 2) even though your point is well thought out as no company indie or otherwise launches without experienced employees that have come from larger ones.  I do agree with everything else. Nicely done.

You can take that common sense and shove it up your ass.

This is beyond what you can chill about. It's fucking something we been waiting for ages for and now Aventurine is making wrong decisions. They are not wiping even though everyone is out there exploiting. They are not saying anything to the many people who preordered but whose orders didnt go through.

This is total bullshit. So take that common sense and apply it to your ass. I sure as hell wont be calm.

Absolutely! It's like when you buy a new model car... dude... if it doesn't work... just shut up! you are lucky to buy it early! Stop whining and go drive the damn car and be happy it works for most of the time. God I can't believe this people that think that because they payed for the car they have the RIGHT to complain. Sheesh.

Or with a newly printed book... you can't read half of the pages because the letters are all blurred? DDDOHHH! it's a new book! This is the price you pay for having it early you moron! Stop crying! They are not like making a breach of your damn human rights.

There are people and clans advancing so fast, it's like new players don't have a chance. Players who paid and can't get in have to watch others maxing skills and gathering mass mats.

Meanwhile others sit on the sidelines, helpless to try and catch up.

Common sense told me not to pre order or touch this game until the company behind it show a shred of professionalism and can communicate information which is not contradictory. This past few months have been nothing but stupidity.  Your seeing these  types people on here :

    • Those with common sense.. and a wicked sense of fun for poking people ...
    • Those with common sense and staying well away from this disaster.
    • Increasingly Desperate Fanbois lacking any kind of common sense who are now staying quiet.
    • Increasingly Desperate Fanbois lacking any kind of common sense who are even now plugging this disaster and being evasive.
    • And finally my favourite ... the utter moronic still trying to get a pre order for this game.

Common sense is not needed in a three ringed circus. This is popcorn. This is tragic. It is prime entertainment. This game is revolutionary I tell you all !

Thanks, but your post doesn't make any common sense..!

People work hard for their money, if you buy internet or television and it only works 60% of the time, you have the right to complain, because they are providing you with sub-par service.

If you buy a vehicles and it only starts 70% of the time, you have a right to comment on the quality of that product..!

I bought and Payed for many MMORPG's and although an occasional crashes is understandable, nothing in any circumstance related to thsi relase of Darkfall is acceptable. From being charged twice, to having to wait, to not being able to log in, to having to delete a character.

ALL OF THIS is unprofessional and stirs up the mmorpg community and sends signals to other companies that it is not acceptable. It wasn't acceptable when Farlan Entertainment did it and it isn't now. If Tasos was unaware of previsou failures in this industry and didn't learn how to be truthful to their investors and fanbase, then it is not our problem.

Just don't sell us CRAp anymore!

Wrong analogy.  You didn't buy a Mercedes or a Jaquar, you bought a Tasos.  Some no name car company that has never made a car before, and you knew this going in.  BUT, after you bought your Tasos, you thought you were driving a Jaquar and got pissed when you found out it wasn't.

    Common sense? well ...

1/ true to some degree in my opinion. I agree that all games i have been at launch got problems. But the impact on the game play has been really a lot different. So different that to put them in the same box is just lack of common sense.

2/ I totally agree with you on it except for the commented in the point above.

    3/ Agreed

4/ again my experience is telling me something different.

    5/ Obvious.

6/ This repeated mantra to justify low quality and unfinished products is one of the worst things we MMORPG players have been doing for a long time. Its not common sense. We are having what we are asking for.

Common sense is ask for well done and finished products. I'm not talking about "perfect" products just as good as any other kind of product you will be satisfied to buy. There are a lot of companies around delivering thousands of well done and finished products at least as complicated to develop as MMOs and targeting audiences a lot more diverse than any MMO could dream.

May be i have been very lucky, but except for AoC and Horizons all launches i have been (by the way not so much) run satisfactory. As with any product in any market in MMOs market there are good works, not perfect, but good and others that are plain bad.

Before DF unconditional followers jump on it, my comments are not addressed specifically to the DF launch. Anyway just for few objective facts, like the times server down, forums down and so, its clear it is not the best in the history.

this. those of us playing the game are having a blast, and barely post anymore, except to lol at the increasingly rabid & desperate trolling around here, 100% of which is obviously coming from people who aren't playing the game and have their own agenda.

yes, we all know the release was less than perfect, but it's their first time, and it really wasn't all that bad unless you didn't get in. most people in game i talk to are having no issues either, and are enjoying the game.

as always it's those who are the most vocal and most negative who have the least clue, and the most divorced from the reality.

One thing about indie comps, just because a company is indie DOES NOT GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO DO EVERYTHING SUBPAR TO A NORMAL COMPANY. Its all in the end product, not who made it. Indy companies are NOT CHARITIES, they do NOT DESERVE money for doing something worse but get an "a for effort". They are a company, making money, not an orphanage, or an endagered species.

If they release a subpar product, they need to charge less than the industry standard, they do NOT have the right to release a subpar product and charge the SAME as the industry standard, no matter how much money went into the game. DF in its current state is worth approx 5$ a month, if you compare it to WoW (which, though it is incredibly carebear, is a lot more FUN than the grind/bug/unthought out features/horrible balance ridden DF). DF has the potential to be a game that can sell itself for 15$ a month, but its nothing more than a beta atm, and its outrageous that they are selling for 15$ a month.

    When I'm energetic I'm:

    When I'm at default I'm:

    WHITE/BLUE

Lol according to this I'm bipolar :O

You do realize even hundreds of years after books were starting to appear in the world that was in fact probably a pretty common occurrence?  I've ran into offline games that were released by good companies(for the most part) that to this day still bug out and make the game unplayable.  Daggerfall(probably the best game ev4r) still is not perfect, but an incredible game still.  The only thing people can credibly bitch about is Aventurine's lack of communication skills, but this can partially be explained by them not wanting to accidentally give us any more false promises.

There's a difference between trolling and saying since day one you enter beta that they need to hold release for a month or two so they can fix major balance issues, bugs and glitches but I do get your point.

The hate on this forum is stupid, most of it is downright garbage and lies, but after getting banned for warning them of their doom in pure facts and trolling fanbois because I couldn't even connect to the game I think I have the right to vent for awhile since they blatantly ignored my warnings.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
