Is it worth gettting

I originally intended to get eq2 when it was released but then i got into WoW open beta and im really suprised at how good the game is. The biggest problem i have with getting eq2 is my system specs. I have an amd 64 3000+, 768 mb of ram and an fx 5900xt. Im worried that i wont be able to run the game on mid settings and the game doesnt look pretty below that. Getting more ram is not an option cause im building a new system mid next year and therefore dont want to invest too heavily in ddr1 since it might be obsolete by that time. My system runs WoW on max settings and im thinking maybe its best for me to just stick with it since its a great game with a community and pvpimage. I already dropped 20 bucks down to preorder my copy of eq2 but i dont want to get a game that would be buggy or look bland/ugly just cause i dont have a top of the line system. I read a thread with a guy stating that he couldnt run eq2 on mid settings with his fx 5900 ultra but that might be a driver problem or faulty mem e.t.c. Is any 1 here running eq2 on an fx 5900 xt card or some thing similar. Thx for the info guys would love to join you guys in norrath.image

Wow, I spelled alot of stuff wrong there :O
    my system specs are..

    amd athlon 2400+
    512 megs of ddr ram
    80 gig ahrd drive
    20 gig harddrive
    soundblaster live 5.1
    gefroce fx 5900

I have a partition just for the page file, so a little virtual memory will be as effective as possible.

Your computer will run fine, and probably very well in EQ2, so dont worry bout that.

Wow, you have a similar, but better, PC than I do... but with less RAM.

I have an AMD 2600+, geforce FX5900 like you... but I have 1 gig of Dual DDR ram.  Trust me, when I was playing Star Wars Galaxies with the same PC with only 512 megs of RAM, lag lag lag lag lag lag lag ... non-stop when entering cities.  upgraded to 1 gig of RAM... no more lag!

Everquest 2 is flawless when it comes to lag.  Okay so when you're in the main city and you have 30 players on screen, there is some lag.  And I did say "some"!  Exit the city and go in a dungeon or the forest, no more lag.

Gameplay-wise, I kinda like it.  The some quests could be less buggy, but they must of fixed them by now considering so many people sended tickets and bug reports on quests where you cannot loot what you need to complete it, or when you enter the crafting the crafting room and you go too fast it can mess up the game where you are stuck in the basement and cannot get out (that was anoying, but a CSR helped me.  It took 15 minutes, but I was helped)

But PVP?  There is no PVP... not from what I've read.  Everquest was never a PVP MMORPG anyways.  It's a game where you form a team or guild, do quests and dungeons together, collect hundreds of loot, and best of all, EQ2 encourages player housing, where you can decorate your house with tones of cool stuff you looted, and since you're lucky and didn't buy it yet, you could always wait for the Collector's Edition which gives you a free Baby Dragon pet to walk around your house.  I was impatient and bought the normal edition since the Collector's ed was not released yet.

Anyways, the main factors of EQ2 is the graphics.  They are amazing.  The gameplay is easy to understand and play.  you won't be spending weeks still trying to figure out how the profession skills work and stuff like that.

My only complaints is the fact it's SOE.  The whole "stuck in crafter's basement if you go too fast" was a big bug that everyone had.  So they helped right away.  I played EQ and Star Wars Galaxies.  When only a few people (and not hundreds of people) have a problem cause of a bug, it can take days, weeks or even NEVER for such a minor bug to be repared and I hated that from SOE.   Another complaint, but I actually got over it, was the fact that the graphics are soooooo nice, that SOE had to make areas smaller.  So you won't have huge worlds like in Dark Age of Camelot or Star Wars Galaxies, or it's previous game Everquest 1, where you have huge maps and won't have to see a loading screen for another hour.  EQ2 there will be lots of loading time.  You'll be walking through 1 portion of a forest, get to an arch which will load another section of the world.  That's where 1 gig of RAM helps!  Anyone without 1 gig of RAM will have longer loading time, and I noticed that in a few group members since everyone with 1 gig of RAM always loaded after 5 seconds, and the players with either dial-up or less than a gig of RAM ended up spawning in the next area 10 seconds later.

All in all, if you're like me and don't care about Worlds of Warcraft, then buy EQ2.

Cause when you think about it, you only have 2 options:

    1) Stick with your current MMORPG if you still like playing it

    2) Buy EQ2 since it's a new generation MMORPG that's good.

or well, there is a 3rd option:

    3) Wait for Worlds of Warcraft

i've been playing both games and have been really torn, but I think EQ2 wins for the pure immersiveness. (Is that even a word?)

I have a AMD Barton 3000+, 1GB pc2700, Ati 9700pro and SB Live video card. I play on high settings and it runs just fine.

I really love the game.....so far and I played the beta for a month.
