You dont seem to realize that its far more likely for a company with a single game, which goes bust, to just go down the drain and the game with them, than it is they get their act together... because frankly, there are virtually no examples in the market of such a thing making sense at all.
There is one single shining example of a bad game turning it around, that is Anarchy Online. All others that didnt go down the drain barely managed to hold on and stop the player hemorrhaging, but no game really was able, as far as I know, to turn things around into a success.
If TCoS does not succeed, more likely than not, its gone. Which, if I may say so, would be a shame.

Above made in response to ::

respect all of your opinions that there should not be an IP block but I have 2 comments and I hope they get rid of it.

1.) There is a whole world out there so you can make new guildie friends until fiscal reality hits.

2.) The free market is a very powerful thing and if there is not a big enough group playing in Germany and the enviorns then what will eventually happen is that it will not be profitable and there will HAVE to be mergers between companies. Then there will not be anymore blocks. I am reasonably certain us Americans will hold down the fort until (and if) that happens.

First let me say you are typing on the free markey now. There may be a few games that maybe were good enough to be successful and failed but we could count them on 1 hand, they are just a few of them. There are hundreds and thousands of games that have succeded or failed  (ultimately) on their own merit and not hype or stupidity . And if they are not supported by consumers as a whole they go away. That is the free market. If I am going to take my chances with something that is good, I will take the market anytime. Whatever you take go ahead. As far as the rest of your post it is unintelligable to me so I can not respond.

Also as of today it was anounced that the IP block is going to be removed.  This is just one more example of the free market at work. If a company is sane then they make changes that their customers want. >>>success.

Yup. But sad fact is that the OP is right.

I live in the EU territory where this game is now released and the servers are in fact dead.

I actually liked the game and it had some refreshing gameplay and some decent quests. Especially the mob AI was also very refreshing.

A game that had build up a pretty large fanbase over the years during development. A game wich had a good chance in making a good dent in the Niche market.

But screwed itself and the entire fanbase with the most horrendous and idiotic Publisher deals and IP ban schemes I have ever witnessed.

They completely obliterated the entire fanbase with that publisher deal announcement end last year.

And the current dead servers gives pretty much a clear sign what interest there is left in this game. As mind you that their own country (The Netherlands) is in this current released region as well.

Excuse my ignorance, and it is ignorance. What is the state of Spellborn in terms of publisher in the EU? I can think of a few publishers I would not do business with at the moment, SOE leading the list. I have heard some good things about Spellborn, but I also know EU players are somewhat sensitive to the companies they do business with (like SOE, who had a large following with SOE until the CU & NGE with SWG).

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

As of today Acclaim announced on Voon that there will be no more IP ban after Spellborn launches next week in CB. Anyone will ultimately be able to play anywhere. Exactly when that is I can't say to the date.I am not as technical as many others on the forums so I cannot elaborate more than that cause I don't know. Hopefully plain English as above will suffice.

Please visit http://spellborn.acclaim.com/index.html for details after you register. All details are there if you want them.

The game will be free to download and play for many levels. The number of levels  keeps on expanding.  Mirage and Frogster publish in the EU alonf with Acclaim. Look to see which one you are under but remember the IP ban is coming down.

You can play probable next week, esp if you signed up for the beta. If you did not sign up now and you can give it a try for free. Not a bad deal as far as I can see. Then you don't have to read a forum and hear about it you can try it for yourself.

Well, they have them self to blame at, They shot them self in the head with the IP-ban. Just let it die its what they want. I mean, almost every player agree on this and they know it. But wont do anything. With my hand on the heart i can say fully that they really deserve the game to die. ty

Well...It might be a bit more complicated than that. The talent , experience, imagination and dedication required to make a wonderful game like Spellborn, are totally different from the business side of things.

I suspect that the Devs received some very poor advice, and lacked the experience to be able to see the horrible consequences. By the time they realized this, they had been locked in to legally binding contracts that pretty much tied their hands.  This must be a nightmare for them. I really hope it eventually works out for them.

Just wanned to write that altough their obvious mistake (ip ban) those players who liked the idea of the game and were interested in trying it well, will wait and try it anyway. And of course their decission about removing IP ban was a rescue from total failure.

Now, stop complaining, wait a bit longer, and have fun in TCOS.

Hopefully cya in game soon :D

PS. This isnt a big deal comparing to Darkfall, which I thought I would give a try SOMEHOW i found out that its coming out 25/02 but their game home web is still showing BETA signups....how incompetent is that? after launch they cant play it because of crashes, unable to make accounts, bugs, and TONS of other things... and website still not updated, forum not working ETC ETC...
