SOE has won me over

admriker444admriker444 Member Posts: 1,526

For those who know me, they're quite aware of my distaste towards SOE. I left SWG with a bitter experience from such a total lack of customer service and gameplay. I tried EQ2 only because many of my friends were going there. I went in anticipating another bad experience.... boy was I wrong.

First off the game has the best tutorial ever. There is little doubt how things work as each topic is covered by an npc leading you through a simple quest that 1. gives you an easy explanation on how something works   and   2. gives you xp   and   3. feels immersive and not tedious chores. I truly enjoyed making my first items as an artisan because there was no guess-work involved. I made something based on tutorial, got some xp, unlocked use of crafting room, and was able to sell the items i made. For combat and movement, the ship was a nice way to intro you to these things without risk of messing up and ending up dead.

I only made it to level 6 scout (and level 4 artisan) so far but had fun doing it. It didnt feel like grinding because i was doing quests for npc's. I havent left the beginning player town (didnt pay attention to name) but still didnt even come close to talking to everyone. There's some neat things to try like fishing and swimming underwater. Also the loot isnt bad for newb area. I've been able to loot enough stuff and sell back to an npc to buy a full set of armor for my level (jn just an hr or two).

The graphics are truly detailed. I have an AMD 3000, 1 gig corsair ram (3200), 200 gig ata133 drive, soundblaster audigy 2, and a ATI 9600 128 mb video card.... hardly top of the line but graphics still looked pretty good. And amazingly zero lag !!! I was expecting SWG type lag but got absolutely none, no skips, no freezing, nothing but smooth frames.

I have yet to experience EQ2's customer service so I leave no judgment from that. However, if the game is as stable as it appears to be, I wont have much need for a csr.

Upto 6th level the grind in EQ2 is pretty easy.

From here onwards it becomes a nightmare.

Graphics are fine til you have to run away from several mobs or fight in a group then its Lag City!

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

hi, as you may know im a SOE disliker also. my son had a few problems downloading game, i went to the online customer service live tech help and WOW how did this happen i got an answer and it was very helpful and fixed the problem. as a former, SWG and EQ and other SOE games this was a big surprise. maybe SOE is coming around or i just lucked out i dont know which yet, will be watching boards here to see what others get in way of customer service, but this is first time i have been happy with there reply and help. if it keeps up i may start liking SOE again.

I feel exactly the same way about the SWG & SOE thing. image I played SWG for about 3 months until I finally realized all the things SoE had done wrong, and they would never fix them. They probably said, "Ok team, project failure, let's focus all of our attention to EQ2 now and don't make the same mistakes."

EQ2 has REALLY outdone itself, and its beginnng to prove it's not the "obvious failure" that skeptics thought it was going to be. It's an optomistic and abundant of features that will capture all kinds of players. (Unlike WoW, teehee, sorry had to throw that in since i'm theimage

Thats good news for SoE.  I cant play the game until I get my new computer, but it seems good from what I hear. I never played SWG so I have no clue about the game, I only played EQ and PS from SoE and I had no problems with them once so ever.

8-12 I did in a single day, not much of a grind.  But I expect it to slow down...  If you level too fast you miss too much of the game, so of course leveling will be a grind, but its not like the Lineage 2 grind by any means.

Graphics are fine, even if you are in a group, even if you are in a group running away from several mobs, even if you are in a group running away from a group of mobs in a busy zone.

Either your PC is completely outdated, in which case you have no right to comment on the performance of a game with cutting edge graphics.  Or you have a lower end system and don't know how to modify graphic options to suit your PC hardware, in which case you probably shouldn't comment on anything close to being considered technical.

The game runs great on my 2.8 ghz, 1 gb 3200 ram, 9800 pro 128 mb....and my PC is far from being top of the line.

     Riker...

You say you have left SWG but your name is still active on the SWG boards proclaiming you are staying with SWG and trying EQ?

Glad you are enjoying EQ.....just hope you don't come back in a few months trying to convince us we are all nutters for playing it while still playing it yourself :P

    Metalcore

I disagree. It is Very easy to level up to 12 or 13 in a day or 2. In fact I might even say it's too easy. There are so many low level quests you can level very quickly just doing those. As far as graphics are concerned, I have 2gig P4 with 768 megs of ram and a mid to low range graphics card (radeon 9600 256 meg) and I have only had noticable lag once since joining beta and playing the retail version regardless of what I'm running away from or how many people are with me.

I think SOE is doing a great job.

It is really easy to level so far. I got to level 10 in a day. I had beta experience so I knew where to go, but its still a fun and quick leveling process.

What I plan on doing with EQ 2 is what hubba said, I'm gonna take my time, explore and do some quests.

Man, I wish people would get their terms straight. Poor frame-rate is not lag. Lag is caused by a lossy or latent connection to the server usually attributed to the Internet or overloaded game servers. Stuttering frame rates because you have the detail turned up too high on a computer full of budget-level hardware is not lag...

god i hate the people who complain about swg and soe, it was a terrible idea all the way from the drawing board (seriously star wars was a cool movie and all but come on...doesnt fit the mmo mold at all).  SOE has had me at hello all the way from EQ1. suck it wops

Yep, the only common thing between SWG and EQ2 is where the money came from.

Actually, the term 'lag can be used to describe just about anything that is 'lagging'.

    Lag: A delay.

Just because you are used to it being used solely for the purposes of identifying net lag, doesn't mean the term is exclusive to it.
