I would just like to say the game has great reviews so far and i am interested in buying it.
but i am hearing very little on how the solo gameplay is like.
i have played games like ffx1 and there you need a party to do anything
i could use some input by some people to help make my decision.
ps WoW is yucky i am beta testing and i am very dissapointed with it
little kids might like it but ah seems to cartoonie to me lol.

you can easily solo up to level 12 to 15 depending on class. After that, it is still entirely possible, it just gets increasingly difficult.
Solo is slower in EQ2 but possible.
If your after a more realistic looking game and don't mind taking more time to level then I think you'll like EQ2 for the sounds of it.

I believe it's like someone said earlier, it all depends on your class. Wizards are known for their amazing damage, and I think that it wouldn't be all that hard to solo them. But, if you take a Swashbuckler for instance, I don't think that he/she will be able to solo all that well past a certain level. I think it was mentioned as 15ish. It just all depends on the class that you play.
But you seem to be limited to the surrounding areas of your starter town...or so it seems to me. Perhaps I'm wrong. But once I got a little past midway in Antonica there were TONS of group mobs. More "gnolls" than you could shake a stick at lol...not to mention the "HighwayMen" that patrolled the roads themselves (group mob)
So yes...maybe your able to Solo, but your actuall range of hunting and exploring will be quite limited.
Until I guess you became high enough lvl to venture further...but I've seen lvl 20+ fighters running from group mobs in Antonica.
Like it's been said, I guess you just have to be VERY careful and expect a slower lvling experience...but possible.
Good Luck...I'll be be doing the "solo" thing myself at times. Time is my biggest enemy and much of the time I can't wait to look for a group, sad to say. (life) heh
Perhaps it depends on Char Class as well. I have only played fighter types so far.
What's the collective opinion here...are casters able to solo better because of AoE spells or fighters who have the damage and hitpoint to go toe 2 toe?
Veteran beta players plz share your opinions!

Anytime.. As for your question about the fighter vs. caster. That depends on what you like as well.. I'm still not able to play yet, because my CE copy hasn't arrived, which is really making me steamed, but I've been doing a lot of research in my "downtime". Every class type does a lot better in a group, but if you are soloing, I think that the heavy hitting casters would be ok to solo with, the fighter types would be good to solo with, but downtime would be a pain, unless you do like I did in eq1 and /who a cleric or druid for buffs/heals when needed.. hehe I'm going to be a swashbuckler, which is why I mentioned it earlier, and I don't think that I will be able to solo much at all, because I am assuming they have slightly lower hp, and don't do a lot of damage unless it's a backstab, which you can do more of in a group. Don't Wait for a group. While soloing, during downtime or something, do a /who and look for people around your level, give them a tell and see if they'd like to group. Do that 1 by 1 until you get a full group, and are fighting the higher level baddies and getting better xp and loot than you could've solo.
You will find that EQ2 isn't really designed for solo play although as a caster it is achievable it will still be hard work. They did say that solo play would be tweeked throughout beta but I saw little of it. It may of course change in the future.
I have to say that the quest rewards in EQ2 have been impressive. At level 6 I have some gear with "stat" enhancements. So far I have had no problem soloing with my priest, but then again, he is only level 6.

It starts to get more difficult lvl 20+
If I was to offer a tip to newcomers it would be to stay on noob island for as long as possible and do all the quests as you can get some very nice items
EQ2 is not a solo game. When you first start, you can do quests to obtain free armor. Each quest you finish gives you 1 piece of armor. You can solo all of them, except the final quest which ended up giving me a more powerful weapon. And as you progress in the game, there will be hard quests that you gotta form a group or else it's impossible to solo. Just by this, I knew SOE wanted to push group play and not solo.
Which isn't a bad thing, but after about 10 hours of gameplay, I know I could not go on forever in solo.
I gave up my Fighter cause finding a group that wants a fighter was so hard.
I started a Priest instead, and now everyone loves me. lol
But look, what kinda sucks at the beginning are resistances. You'll find a creature that has a colored name of your level, you bash and try to kill it, but it's health is just not going down fast enough. And even if you do survive, your health will be so damn low, you gotta /sit for litterally 3-4 minutes cause Health and Endurance regeneration is SLOW!!! Even if you ate food to help increase the speed, it's slow. Slower than Star Wars Galaxies or Dark Age of Camelot. More proof SOE doesn't want people to solo cause it's a pain to kill a creature, sit and wait for health to 100%, start fighting again.
Or do like me... make a Priest and there is no waiting cause you're always healing yourself. Okay okay, so your attacks aren't as strong, but I noticed you can last a lot longer than a Fighter cause if your health is low during battle, just heal! While casting, you barely get interupted (Although it may happen) so you can almost always heal in battle in hand-to-hand combat.

If you want to solo to actually gain levels, then it might be really difficult, but it IS possible to solo weak monsters and get bits of exp., you can do this when you are bored/showing off gfx to friends/waiting for party or friends, etc. So unlike many mmorpgs (FFXI for one), you don't have to just sit and do nothing for hours to wait for parties, you can make it somewhat productive.
Actually, soloing white con mobs or higher is entirely possible from my experiences, and what I've heard. The problem is that 'solo" mobs are hard to find. Also, as a 22 Swashbuckler in beta(who does most damage from behind, so isn't too good at soloing), I could solo yellow mobs. BUT, soloing green^^ mobs wss MUCH harder. Usually a 50/50 chance.
It's hard to find solo green-white mobs, as most are either grouped, or they have one or two arrows(indicating they are harder than normal mobs, for those that didn't know).

Soloing in this game is just fine. Pay no attention to the naysayers who say otherwise. I've got a mage and a priest both at level 9 and both of them have only had to group one time to complete a quest that was entirely optional. Soloing just requires a bit more thought and skill than in EQ1, so naturally anyone who lacks those abilities is going to complain that you can't solo in this game.
Yes, level 9 is low, but the game just came out guys. Give me a chance!
