WoW is just the best looking mmorpg to date.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/46093.html

I don't understand how anyone could say the game has crap graphics because Blizzard just have done wonders with their art style I mean look at something like EQ2 and how dated that looks now and WoW is looking more modern and up to date purely because Blizzard put so much detail into their game.

I havn't played WoW for years but I was amazed at how good it is looking.

Yeah the new dungeon does look very nice.  Maybe someday will get there!

Hehe, it does look good doesn't it :)

I think that everyone that plays WOW understands that the graphics are hardly earth shattering, but the detail and functionality is undeniable and with Wrath they have taken things to a whole new scale, which is MASSIVE to say the least. The scale of open areas, battlegrounds, buildings, bosses and so on have all been stepped up and it is looking better for it.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Graphics may not be the most detailed but they are very polished, the animations are smooth and flow well with each other and look natural, and the models and textures don't look like they were designed by seventeen different independent studios with no collaboration.

WoWs graphics were never an issue for me.

I actually enjoy stylized graphics over realistic Wax people graphics of EQ2,AoC and Lotro.

Some of the best games have stylized graphics.

WoW, WAR, Ryzom games i spent a good amount of time with had great visuals and didnt need AoC specs to run.

While I personally feel Eve looks better then WoW, I think WoW is probably the best looking on foot MMO.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

I don't think a lot of folks object to the quality of the graphics. It's the style. Personally, I hate playing games that took too much like cartoons.

I agree with every part of this. When it comes to graphics:

    EVE > WoW > WAR/EQ2/Vanguard/Darkfall/etc

Although even the gap between EVE and WoW is pretty slim.

I thought the graphics were good until I realised I wasn't 13 any more.

I'm trying to imagine your thought process here:

"The aesthetic to this game is amazing, it flows really well and is consistent and exceptionally animated".

    *Insecure self-concsious moment passes*

"Hey, I'm too old for this stuff!  I should be playing a game that has less stylized graphics because thats what grown men should do!"

I actually feel sorry for you.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

I have to disagree with Darkfall there, WoW has undeniably better artistry then Darkfall. Not saying Darkfall is butt ugly but it's not Blizzard standards either.

I'm not here to argue WoW's art style. It is what it is.

Because of the use of their graphical capabilities in achieving the max amount of quality from their art style, I think this vid was impressive. Yes, WoW looked better than I've ever seen it in that vid. Does that mean much? Not if you're into WoW's graphics, so do yourself a favor OP and avoid the conflict by saying, "WoW is just the best looking mmorpg to date." It's not, end of story.

Is this the best looking implementation of WoW's art style and graphical capabilities in the game? Yes. I think that's what you meant.

I've read plenty of people's posts on this site giving World of Warcraft flak for its graphics. Personally, I think Blizzard's choice for WoW's graphics was genius. It's not too taxing on computers, allowing for more people to play on low and high end machines (For me, I can play on my laptop from work, and desktop from home; when I played; just can't seem to level anymore). I also think their choice to make it as such allows for a larger open-world. If you try to create more demanding graphics, that means you would have to do something like Conan did, zoned out world. Not an open world, but zones to load up as you transition to and from areas. Sure, Conan's graphics are impressive, but I would not be upset if every MMORPG of the next three years were to use similar graphics as WoW.

That link showed some other game.I hope you are not talking about WOW movies, because there has not been one movie that shows realistic game play,Blizzard likes to lie in that regard.

Anyhow that statement was QUITE vague, just a sort of whimsical statement. When i talk about graphics i like to pin point actual things that show good or bad. Please show me something WOW has done that shows detail,i doubt VERY much they have anything.I only played the game limited,by i know cheap when i see it.First of all you mentioned EQ2,well that game actually uses hi resolution textures WOW does not.I cannot ever remember seeing shader use in WOW .Most likely what you see as detail i see as a texture pasted onto something with no detail, but hey ,i did not play WOW that much to remember very much.

Hey if you post something that looks good,i will give it credit, but be forewarned you compared it to a game EQ2 ,that i know has much better graphics,i played for a total of about 2 years lol.

I like WoW's graphics. It's simple, detailed and not hard on the eyes, There aren't so many endless lands of dull colors. Each area has it's own color set, it's own style and I think it's pretty cool. The bright style of WoW is far superior to the dull games that make up most of the MMO market. Too bad the community isn't as bright as the rest of the game

That's fine, but walking into a jungle from a desert kind of ruins the immersion, don't you think? Or walking into a forest from a broken, shattered land of shadow and flame. The smoothest transition of zones WoW has (not having experienced Northrend yet) is Alterac Mountains/Hillsbrad.

I agree that the area transitions are poor in WoW, but I don't think that has anything to do with their graphics. It's the foolish decisions made by the development squad.

me personally, my ranking would look more like this....

    EVE

    LOTRO

    AOC

    VG

    WoW/WAR (tied)

Right, I was referring to the "each area has its own color set, its own style..."

I should've highlighted that part, my bad.

Also agree with miagisan's listing in terms of graphical technology and overall impressiveness, but as for art style I put DAoC and Warhammer at the top. Both have a very authentic feel (more with environments) that is similar but still rivals WoW's style. LotRO has this feel as well but with a more impressive graphics engine.

So the Simpsons is ... for kids or ... for adults ? And Disney's Fantasia?

Any adult playing a Fantasy Role Playing Game is a kind of kid isn't he/she ?

Actually a cartoon is the ideal timeless tool to represent the fairy tail of a fantasy adventue with trolls, orcs, dragons and paladins .... with a bright sky and colorful worlds you just love to be in.

Realistic graphics .... to represent a green Orc ?!?!? I never understood that really.

Well, if you want to get to the bottom of this;  the truth is that the older you get the more you realize that we are all kids

Yo, I hear that. I'm 35 and some days I just like to kick back in my easy chair and watch Spongebob. I don't like WoW because I don't feel there is a lot of room for individuality, but the graphics are pretty good for their style.

Champions Online will be coming out soon and it has some pretty cool, yet cartoony graphics as well. I'll play that game over WoW because it allows me to use my imagination more in character creation. I can only hope that it will be half as polished and deep as WoW is.

Wow, haha...Spongebob was fine back in the day but the new ones are just gay and stupid. I mean, we all felt like Squidward one time or another, and the older ones had humor that only adults would understand. Though I get what you're saying.

Most people don't seem to like the comic-book style of Champions, particularly just the cell-shaded graphics, but it's no different than WoW. It's a solid graphics engine just being used in a different style. All personal preference, except with Champions it's meant to be "cartoony".
