My history: Gaming for about 10 years, veteran with pretty much every MMORPG ever created, that at least I knew of. Played SWG awhile, realized it was lame. Played SB for awhile, realized it was dead. Played DAoC, got bored. Played EQ, just didn't like it.
My newest game, EQ2.
I was highly skeptical of this game, due to how I didn't enjoy EQ. But I decided I needed something new. I purchased it, brought it home, installed, downloaded patches, registered, no problems whatsoever. (Amazing for my PC)
I entered the character creation screen, and thought, wow, look at all the races! I created my character, which of course was a Ratonga Scout, of the name Shadowfur on the RP server. (Look me up!)
As I entered the game, while actually skipping the tutorial, I found that I knew the controls even before I played it. Everything seemed exactly how I wanted them, without any config on my part! Aside from changing the letterbox size a little, I left all default.
Anywho, I entered the game and realized I love it. Tons of quests, loot is fun, even grinding is more fun than other games I have played. Better yet, somehow I started at level 3, and that makes me even happier!
Now to the question, what does it mean when a box comes up saying, 'You have earned the title of Goblin Killer'. Is that normal to happen? It just came out of nowhere when I wasn't even on a quest.
Thankee for readin,
Hawk

Thats your title and thats what you are. A goblin killer.
Meaning you have killed a large amounts of goblins and have earned the title of Goblin killer. And are now recongnized in the game as a goblin killer. Later on in the game due to options choosen by you when you receive a title such as this you will then be a more effective fight against such enemys of your title.
So right now you should or are doing more damage to Goblins than say a Rabbit Killer. Later on in the game you can fine tune these to a great degree to be heros to some people or hated by others.
hit the P button, you'll see a list of all your available titles. Pick one if you want, your name will be displayed on-screen for all to see, along with your selected title. ie Hawk, Goblin Killer
Welcome HAWK
And thank you for the question...I was wandering that myself heh

I was wondering about that, too, because I couldn't find the place where I could see the title again. I told a friend who plays SWG. He said they have a similar system in that game that gave him a title like "Critter Killer". Thanks for the tip about the "P" shortcut.
You give no indication of playing the Warcraft Beta. Your experience with playing previous RPG and finding some satisfaction with EQ2 might have allowed good balanced reading in the comparision between the two. I become quite anoyed when I have spent money ( not the amount as such ) and found accute disappointment in a release.
This comparision between WoW and EQ2 is a nightmare without direct exprience. This I have for WoW but not for EQ2. I can understand the high emotion from the supporting players for their favorite game. But balanced opinion is very hard to find. Thank you for your original post.
Actually it was Kreetle Killer.
Kreetles are annoying little bug things in SWG.. I had that one for a bit when it first came out. SOE keeps sending me free 15 day offers to get me back into it.
I only could play eq2 for 20 minutes.. and now servers are down.. looks like i'll never become a killer of anything
Wowwie, look at the busy topic! I always feel I have accomplished something when I get to reply more than once to my own thread.
I have yet to even try WoW, although I have had a few chances to. I will have to try the open beta and let you all know what I think after a little more time with EQ2.
I actually have both up and running. WOW beta on 2 comps...trying to get it working on my 3rd (last) one for my kids has been a nightmare though...as far as downloading and such. Many problems since OB that I didn't have in closed? Not sure what happened? Any who.....
I "honestly" like and enjoy them BOTH, for different reasons. I like the depth and immersion of EQ2 and actually just the newness of the EQ world to me (never played EQ) But I've played all of the Blizzard games and my kids like them too so it's been neat to see what they've done with WOW...I feel that you truely feel like your in the Warcraft world.
It's interesting to see how the 2 companies took different directions and what seems to work or not with both games. I personally feel that BOTH games are very polished and well done...you can tell a lot of time and dedication has gone into both games.
So depending on what your looking for ...either game would be a good and fun choice IMO...I'll have both up and running in my house for an extended period of time I'm sure. Or at least untill my opinion changes about either game (if that happens) farther down the road.
Anyway...Best of Luck to ALL!
RA
"Gnoll Killers of the World Unite" or should that be "Shoplifters" LOL
"It'll be dark soon."
"Aye...that it will."
"It'll be dark soon."
"Aye...that it will."
**Gasp** you like both?!?
Naaa, you have it all wrong.... these forums are for trashing one game or the other.........
Actually, it is nice to see honest opinion of these two games as I'm tired of seeing all the bashing.
I can agree more. They are are both great games in their own way.
Now I just have to decide which to play monthly for.........
Have fun!
