I know some people ahve been wondering how big the first patch is.. well, I just finished isntalling and patching.. I had to dl a 4 gig file... took me like 10 minutes on cable though, so no biggie... but was that file a patch? Or just there to slow me down from playing eq2?

LOL, 4 gigs over cable in 10 minutes? You sure are putting it to the cable company! I was wondering where all my bandwidth was going!
Lol.. I don't think you have to download a 4gig file to for the first patch...

Oh I forgot to say that in my post LOL...
4 gigs would take you much longer than 10 minutes to download on cable, trust me.....

Check the EverQuest II folder size after install (about 6GB) and again check after that first patch (?now over 10GB, not likely.) A 4GB patch would mean 2/3 of the initial client updated. And 4GB patch through a 56k dial-up connection would take nearly TWELVE days (278 hours @ 4KB/s.)
4GB in 10 min is 6.7MB/s
it said 4 gigs... it was moving at about 50 megs a second I thinks... after it dled this 4 gig thing it used it adn then I restarted and it dled another like 200 meg file and used it... maybe I dled eq2 again? lol somehow..
my eq2 folder is at 8 gigs btw...
4gb on a 10mbit line would take:
4GB= 32 Gbit (bit and byte aint the same thing, internet connections is counted in bits, files in bytes, 1 byte=8 bit)
Each Gbit at optimal speed would take 100 seconds X 32 = 3200 seconds = 53 minutes
It is however unlikely you would get 10mbit to yourself towards the SoE servers at this time, or anytime. Allthough not impossible I am quite sure you missread something, or I hope you did for SoE's sake..

I am telling you.. it had the bars.. and then like.. 500 megs / 4 gig
It must of been lying to me... but still.. I thought the orginal install was like 4.6 gigs? if I remember right.. or was it 6? anyways.. they added 1-2+ gigs onto me first patch...
about same here... but its at least a 1 gig patch...
Ok i think i know what happened with your 'pseudo' 4Gigs.
Imagine the patch needs to install.. say 33 files on your computer. It starts checking the current version of the file and so on and then starts pumping the files in except the ones that dont need to be patched. This way.. you may get a awesome dl rate and data without it beeing transfered since it was already there.
Probably this was what happened to you.
