If the Cu and Nge didn't exist, what would be the Subs?

So how many subscribers would it have? No need for who knows, you can't go back in time or you need to Subtract X from Y, Multipying that by Z blah! blah! blah! stuff. Just a general guess would be super cool

IMO I think It would be doing quite well, With the amount of people looking for mmorpgs with more substance and people getting bored with all the Asian mmorpgs and wow clones out there. Also with the vets, I think swg would have nothing near wow numbers but atleast a few 100k subs or more.

If CU never hit and SoE continued to bug fix and toss new tools in the sandbox I strongly believe It would be somewhere between Eve (250-300k subs) and FFXI (500k-550k subs).

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

    That sounds pretty accurate.

SWG was one of the few games that you didnt wanna leave when you begun to play. So what if they would have put all the money and manpower from the NGE into the real SWG? We can only dream.

If they still had the brain genius of Raph Koster? A million. If not? 500K or so.

300k sounds about a good guess

considering there is no other game like pre cu SWG, and the market is currently stagnent with hundreds of WoW clones, I think it's safe to say 300k - 400k.

In the past 5 years, 99% of the bugs would have been fixed.  Probably would be on the 4th or 5th expansion.  Tons of better content.  So on and so on, so yeah, I really think that's an honest estimate.

Wasn't SWG losing subs largely to WoW right about that time, thus prompting the entire NGE?  Assuming that was truly the case, I'd figure SWG would perform much like CoX, a niche game with about ~140-160k subs.

That's the thing...SWG was always an niche game.

The fact is they would be doing better than they are doing now.  Not to mention the cost of their reputation in the industry.

Yea that is proberly SOEs biggest lost regarding the whole NEG thing. Their reputation. I LOVED pre NEG SWG, but if Sony announced that THEY would make SWG2 based on preneg, i wouldent buy it. WHY? because sony was behind it, and with the way they handled SWG with the NEG, buying a sequal would just be a bad idea.
fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me

I will never buy another mmo that is assosiated with SOE..

If SOE hadn't wasted the time and resources on both of those inflictions and concentrated on fixing bugs and expanding the game - I would guess the sub number to be between 200 and 350k. Rising and falling depending on the MMO flavor of the month. Vets would always return home.

If they had managed to really improve the GCW and make epic space battles possible - far above the numbers I quoted.

Here's a good indication of what the subs might be.

A certain emulator the game - I can't mention its name or provide a link to it - is running a pre-CU version that might or might not be illegal. It is still very buggy. It has had no advertising whatsoever. Most games sites will not even mention its name. It's run on non-professional server rigs and has no support.

    It now has 52,000 subscribers.

    You do the math.
