First of all .. let me say that I chose to play an undead warlock this time around for the sole reason that I didn't want to create another Hunter (like I did during the original stress test) since I will be playing one upon release and don't want to be starting it over for the third time in case of an OB character whipe.
I figured I could give the warlock a try and play around with it knowing it would just be a temporary thing.
well I simply love it!
I would have to say that where the warlock excels best is in a full well balanced group. With many different stackable spells that deal damage over time, the warlock is not the main damage dealer but definitely helps tiping the beast on the right side of the line.
There is a lot to do with timing when playing with the warlock, you are always watching your enemy's life meter due to certain spells which have to be cast a few seconds before the death of your target. That can make for a fun or fustrating experience .. depending on what you value in a battle.
The warlock also has some spells which can be valuable to a team in an instance dungeon like being able to recall a member of the party to the group through a portal (provided there are already 2 party members at the warlock's side). Another interesting spell is the soulstone which can hold a soul for 30 minutes after being cast and will give the choosen one the opportunity to resurect him/herself if he/she dies during that time. A good spell to use on the healer of the group.
Like I said .. it's all about timing with the warlock.
Soloing isn't so bad either ... the only problem is if your pet looses aggro while you are fighting a beast that is one or several levels above you ...which sadly happens more often than desired
Let's just say it's easy to die when you solo as a warlock ...and if your pet falls, chances are you won't be too far behind. Of course you could always play it safe and only tackle beasts 2 levels below yours
PvP I am not too sure about but I have a feeling Warlock isn't on top of the list. I only tried duels and got owned every time. ..than again I don't have much exp in PvP so perhaps someone else can comment on this.
I recommend giving it a try if you like a fragile but powerful when well used character. Hell, I recommend giving it a try anyway. With the probable whipe of all beta characters although Blizzard is being typically "Blizzarish" about the issue, there is plenty of time to goof off. So if any time is best to try out different characters, this would be it!

Just pick any race you want to play. Every race has their own advantages, and in the end it doesn't matter all that much. If you feel comfortable with a certain race and pick a class you fit best with, you'll enjoy the game that much more than someone who looks at the stats and punches out the math in a calculator, so to speak.
I once met a Paladin, a man of pure virtue, a protector, a man who made me feel safe and secure when he was near me...... so I killed him.
