Nobody, no fan, nobody, can answer what is so great about DFO. Simply because DFO is not great. Problem solved. So OP, nice try, but your words are empty.
The pvp is great. Roaming alone in enemy territory is great. Hiding behind a bush or a rock or in a tree without a radar spoiling your position is great. Jumping down from a tree and onto someone's mount when they get off to store it at the bank is great (I never did that, but it happened to me). Mounted combat is great. It does awesome damage... but with the additional risk of losing something worth around 300-400 gold. Sniping someone in the back with a few arrows when they turn and try to heal is awesome. Sticking to someone and hammering them with melee when they try to chug a pot is very satisfying. Dodging most of your opponents attacks even when their weapon has a wider hit radius then yours is very fun. Backing up when you're in trouble and popping a heal while dodging arrows is a rush. Nailing a mount on low hp with mana missle and bringing it down is life completing. Beating two or three people who are very well equipped while you have crap on is amazing. Looting the two or three well-equipped people after you beat them is as sweet as honey. Making a living by selling the weapons you loot of people is great. Killing farmers (mostly afk/macroing) and looting their resources is great. Taking said resources and turning them into potions or arrows or profit is pretty satisfying as well. I almost forgot, decapitating someone who is trying to run away from you is plain awesome.
Ok... that sounds pretty good, like a giant PVP arena to fight each other to no end. Guess this must be great for some.

Exploiters, macroers, hackers. When people are already hacking on a PAY TO PLAY game already, you know the game is SH*T. A non-existent trade system, crappy chat system, crappy UI, crappy animations, crappy movement, crappy combat, crappy sound effects, crappy music, un-refined PvP system, no cheat protection, hardly any website updates, no way to cancel online, ETCETERA, ETCETERA.
I've seen waaay more fanboy "troll" posts recently then actual "troll" posts. I don't know what this thread is to accomplish, real trolls don't apologize.. If you're saying that the "critics" were wrong (usually lumped into the troll community by some of the more rabid fanboys) then I believe you are wrong.. Sure, the game is not vaporware, but those of us in the community who doubted the lofty goals, and were skeptic of some of the more vocal praises of the fanboys, I think we were right, to a point.
Aventurine had horrible organization with their release, along with the game turning out to be different then the original vision (check how many features are actually in that are STILL listed on their FAQ). A deep skill system, along with dynamic combat mechanics were put aside in favor of the world design, and guild political systems (which isn't bad, per say, if that's what you are into). Crafting turned out to be really boring (not too many people were surprised) along with no real tools to stimulate an ingame economy (no auction houses/player stores, etc). Player housing was scrapped (again, not a big surprise), along with city building turned into just dumping money/resources to form a pre-designed city.
While many will say they knew the plethora of original features would be cut, unless you stalked the forums, and/or official IRC channel, you wouldn't really know that the shiny, creative feature list is pretty much false... Which brings us to one of the worst aspects of Aventurine: communication. It really does not require much time at all to update a feature list, nor to post quick, informative updates on the website.. An hour a week to post communication with your community would be a huge improvement, although Tasos posted that they will improve their communication. It's still too early to claim the release a success or not, and Aventurine has some catching up to do in order for this release to eventually become a success.. With that said, I really hope they can do it.. And I hope they can find the time to implement many of those features that would make DF a truly great sandbox, rather then a clan oriented medieval FPS.

if this were the first week of one of the other games i'd played at retail; then, during downtimes i'd be reading beta testers' reviews, hints, ideas of ways to play/build the characters, etc.

You did a good job of making it sound like a lot of content when in fact your post said very little. You even shot your credibility in the foot by embellishing certain things to make them sound greater then they really are. One highlight to this post was the life completing comment... How little value does there have to be in someone's life to get a life satisfying moment out of a video game... any video game. sad.

When I snipe someone's mount (which again, is worth about 300-400 gold), and kill it with brilliant prediction and aim with my mana missle (fairly slow moving projectile), it is an awesome feeling. The few times I managed it, I laughed and had a grin the size of texas on my face for a good 10 minutes afterwards. Since I didn't feel like typing that sentence, I just decided to overstate it with some easily recognizable hyperbole.
Of course, someone didn't recognize it.
Edit: Also, yes, I decapitated someone who had health left. A decapitation in Darkfall is a critical hit that finishes off a players health bar. Normally, when you finish a players health bar, they get incapacitated. If you score a crit on the last hit, however, you decapitate them. Well, at least with a 2h sword. I don't know about the other weapons.

You obviously have not played many of the newer games. AOC... tons of downtime. VG... tons of downtime.

I was a beta tester. so was alot of my guild. we already had a plan. it has been realised.
I am not going to spend my time giving away strategies to my enemies. this is a competitive pvp game after all.

The game is great. I spent 24 hours straight playing. I havent done that since eq1 in 99. You guys exagerate to much and need to actually play a game before making comments. Mounted combat is great. It does awesome damage... but with the additional risk of losing something worth around 300-400 gold.
Again very vague on details other then "does more damage"... Also not very inspiring considering you lost 300 - 400 gold one sentence before.
Sniping someone in the back with a few arrows when they turn and try to heal is awesome.

Taking said resources and turning them into potions or arrows or profit is pretty satisfying as well.

The game looks to me like a pile of crap. A project developped by amateur devs trying to revolutionize the mmo genre, but instead taking a step back.
The game is not worth its p2p status for me, and is an overall disapointment. However, I am still interested in the concept of the game, and want to keep following it in the hopes that one day it gets close that what it should've been. and Im sure a lot of people will agree with what I've said

How were we wrong? Only 5K accounts created. Go look at the official forums, every single post is a complaint, and that doesn't include all the complaints they already deleted. Exploiters, macroers, hackers. When people are already hacking on a PAY TO PLAY game already, you know the game is SH*T. A non-existent trade system, crappy chat system, crappy UI, crappy animations, crappy movement, crappy combat, crappy sound effects, crappy music, un-refined PvP system, no cheat protection, hardly any website updates, no way to cancel online, ETCETERA, ETCETERA.

I've seen waaay more fanboy "troll" posts recently then actual "troll" posts. I don't know what this thread is to accomplish, real trolls don't apologize.. If you're saying that the "critics" were wrong (usually lumped into the troll community by some of the more rabid fanboys) then I believe you are wrong.. Sure, the game is not vaporware, but those of us in the community who doubted the lofty goals, and were skeptic of some of the more vocal praises of the fanboys, I think we were right, to a point.
Aventurine had horrible organization with their release, along with the game turning out to be different then the original vision (check how many features are actually in that are STILL listed on their FAQ). A deep skill system, along with dynamic combat mechanics were put aside in favor of the world design, and guild political systems (which isn't bad, per say, if that's what you are into). Crafting turned out to be really boring (not too many people were surprised) along with no real tools to stimulate an ingame economy (no auction houses/player stores, etc). Player housing was scrapped (again, not a big surprise), along with city building turned into just dumping money/resources to form a pre-designed city.
While many will say they knew the plethora of original features would be cut, unless you stalked the forums, and/or official IRC channel, you wouldn't really know that the shiny, creative feature list is pretty much false... Which brings us to one of the worst aspects of Aventurine: communication. It really does not require much time at all to update a feature list, nor to post quick, informative updates on the website.. An hour a week to post communication with your community would be a huge improvement, although Tasos posted that they will improve their communication. It's still too early to claim the release a success or not, and Aventurine has some catching up to do in order for this release to eventually become a success.. With that said, I really hope they can do it.. And I hope they can find the time to implement many of those features that would make DF a truly great sandbox, rather then a clan oriented medieval FPS.

Hyperbole--> exaggeration--> heard of it?
When I snipe someone's mount (which again, is worth about 300-400 gold), and kill it with brilliant prediction and aim with my mana missle (fairly slow moving projectile), it is an awesome feeling. The few times I managed it, I laughed and had a grin the size of texas on my face for a good 10 minutes afterwards. Since I didn't feel like typing that sentence, I just decided to overstate it with some easily recognizable hyperbole.
Of course, someone didn't recognize it.
Edit: Also, yes, I decapitated someone who had health left. A decapitation in Darkfall is a critical hit that finishes off a players health bar. Normally, when you finish a players health bar, they get incapacitated. If you score a crit on the last hit, however, you decapitate them. Well, at least with a 2h sword. I don't know about the other weapons.

3 wow came out, we played it, never bother poasterificating
4 as recently as WAR.... it came out and the first few days we PLAYED... didn't post.
5 all you see is dartardian poasterificating this entire first week about how great the game is... INSTEAD of playing it
6 go play this wunderfail game, stop poasting. every poast that is made by someone that COULD be playing, tells me that all the games we've played at retail.. PLAYED at retail, instead of posting at retail... was/is worlds better than the darkfall forum posting game.

Stop blaming your character flaws on other people. stop watseing your time on this game if you don't like it. you make yourselves look like spoilt children.

I have played the game for almost 20 hours this weekend.
the game is down for 2 hours for a patch.
they are incredibly fast at fixing things,
did you find tim in the picture? it's a darkfall picture after all. are you enjoying your down time in the pay-to-play beta while the server is down again? seriously, i never spent this much game-playing-time posting on forums during the first month of a new game.
if this were the first week of one of the other games i'd played at retail; then, during downtimes i'd be reading beta testers' reviews, hints, ideas of ways to play/build the characters, etc.
seriously, every single post made in this early stage of the game, just makes me wonder who you're trying to convince... you, or me.
You obviously have not played many of the newer games. AOC... tons of downtime. VG... tons of downtime.
War had a pretty good launch.
I was a beta tester. so was alot of my guild. we already had a plan. it has been realised.
I am not going to spend my time giving away strategies to my enemies. this is a competitive pvp game after all.
I am not convincing anyone of anything. in fact I have not even told you what I think of the game. you just assumed. I am simply trying to bring a bit of maturity to this forum. trying to show you that you need to be a bigger man than the fanboys were to you. is that so hard for you to understand?
I agree they were right about the billing. It is a mess. But the actual game is sooooo fun. I cant wait to get a raft
The pvp is great.
Generic statement with no inherent value.
Roaming alone in enemy territory is great.
Which cannot be done in any other PvP game... even WoW...
Hiding behind a bush or a rock or in a tree without a radar spoiling your position is great.

Jumping down from a tree and onto someone's mount when they get off to store it at the bank is great (I never did that, but it happened to me).
This is subjective. Rather sad that 1) You failed to examine the area before dismounting. 2) You did not store your mount fast enough.
Mounted combat is great. It does awesome damage... but with the additional risk of losing something worth around 300-400 gold.
Again very vague on details other then "does more damage"... Also not very inspiring considering you lost 300 - 400 gold one sentence before.
Sniping someone in the back with a few arrows when they turn and try to heal is awesome.
*yawn* How is this exactly new? Again can be done in almost every other MMO that has PvP.
Sticking to someone and hammering them with melee when they try to chug a pot is very satisfying.

Dodging most of your opponents attacks even when their weapon has a wider hit radius then yours is very fun.

Backing up when you're in trouble and popping a heal while dodging arrows is a rush.
Nothing monumental, but again valid point from your perspective.
Nailing a mount on low hp with mana missle and bringing it down is life completing.
Are you serious? Life completing? Taking the DF cult to new hights with that one.
Beating two or three people who are very well equipped while you have crap on is amazing.

Looting the two or three well-equipped people after you beat them is as sweet as honey.
FFA looting is very nice. Valid point.
Making a living by selling the weapons you loot of people is great.
Only if you are exploiting the rogue system or killing enemy races. If you are red, then you are not really selling anything for the most part.
Killing farmers (mostly afk/macroing) and looting their resources is great.
Again rogue system exploiting or killing enemy races... Also macroing is a major issue.
Taking said resources and turning them into potions or arrows or profit is pretty satisfying as well.
Meh... so few actual positives in this post I will let this one slide.
I almost forgot, decapitating someone who is trying to run away from you is plain awesome.
So you decapitated them while they still had health... you really sticking by that statement?
You did a good job of making it sound like a lot of content when in fact your post said very little. You even shot your credibility in the foot by embellishing certain things to make them sound greater then they really are. One highlight to this post was the life completing comment... How little value does there have to be in someone's life to get a life satisfying moment out of a video game... any video game. sad.

The game looks to me like a pile of crap. A project developped by amateur devs trying to revolutionize the mmo genre, but instead taking a step back.
The game is not worth its p2p status for me, and is an overall disapointment. However, I am still interested in the concept of the game, and want to keep following it in the hopes that one day it gets close that what it should've been. and Im sure a lot of people will agree with what I've said
