Well probalby one of te reasons eq2 is having atm and im sure theyll fix it fast is that.. the game is so great that they are having more ppl subscribing it than they expected to.
Now you plan a game launch for Xk players.. and then 3x Xk appear from nowhere.. maybe you should adress your complains to the marketing analysis SOE department.. they are the ones that tell to the developers how many players to expect etc.. statistics.
The fact is that .. no game on the market is near close to eq2 engine atm.. so everyone wants to take their eq2 'fix'.
All I am saying is that I have played several games that started out on the buggy side and that it gets worked out in a few weeks. I know that there are some games that have had a better launch than say SWG or Anarchy online. But I have come to understand that this is part of the whole experience. I mean when your dealing with that much data. So what if there is a bug or too.
I still say suck it up and enjoy what you have it will be worked out.

If the trouble persists on certain servers then switch, I'm considering leaving the Antonia Bayle server for that other Lucan D'lere server..It's seems it's rather over crowded..
Exactly . . . bunch of whiners around here, I swear. Spoiled brats want their game to run perfectly for them all the time with no downtime for maintenance or anything at all . . .
How do you know what is going on over there? SOE has shut the servers this morning for 4 hours, it is a planned maintenance shut down. I don't know if this is what the original post is referring to, but if it is, give them a break! THey are trying their best, and so far, Everquest II has been a delight and with minimal problems (for me and a lot of others according to what I've read and heard in-game)
I remember how frustrating it can be when the game shuts down for this or that... but since I incorporated 550 million other things to do in my life, lol, I just consider it a lucky break that I get to turn my attention to those things for a bit.
Some things you can do:
1. Volunteer with online or real world organizations. Seriously, there are so many organizations that could greatly benefit from just an hour or two of your time. 2. Do your homework! lol 3. Say hello to family members who haven't seen you since you went to your 'cave' to play. 4. Go outside, take a walk. Hey, you can even compare real trees and such to ingame trees, etc. 5. Go to work! lol Quit calling in sick. You really do need that paycheck, no matter how obsessed you are with the game. 6. Pick up a good book! Stephen King just released the final book to his Dark Tower series! 7. Clean your room! or if you are me.. Clean the house! It helps with frustration. Clean the heck out of everything! You'll feel better. 8. Make sure you registered for Winter Quarter! The classes are going fassssst! 9. Go prepare munchy snacks for when the game comes back up. This might involve baking! You must eat, you know.... 10. Get your exercise in. Go for a walk or whatever it is you do. Burns off frustration and pounds!
Seriously, I know how frustrating it is. I've been there before with SWG. I learned my lesson though. Just set up a 'If the Server Goes Down' List and be prepared with other things to do when the game goes down.
It might be a new game, but so was Doom 3 and I played through the whole of that without seeing a single problem. I never saw a single problem in City of Heroes while I was playing that. With the exception of the crappy pathing inside city areas, I never saw a problem with Rome - Total War either. So either they were lucky, or they care more for the piece of software they're creating. Thats SOE's problem, I think, they see the $$$ first and the project second, so when they think everything is stable enough to release.. they release it.. then spend the next 6 months fixing it, while also trying to get more $$$ from creating expansions.. which spreads the programmers thin, so the 6 months of fixing turns to 12 months, but the expansion also has a load of bugs so they spend even more time fixing that too, while trying to create another expansion.. And thats why you sometimes see a bug thats been in since release never being fixed. Its very poor. Imagine if you went to a shop and bought a meat pie which had bugs crawling around in it. Would you be happy and say, "Aww, its a new pie, we'll let them off, they'll sort it out soon..", and then come online and say, "Have any of you tried making pies? Suck it up.". Hell no, you'd complain and take it back and demand a refund.
EQ2 was perfect in the last few weeks of beta. There are very little bugs with the actual game. There might be a few, but with such a gigantic gameworld there are a few that slip by, which will be fixed. The problem isnt with the game, its with the servers. They were expecting a giant rush of players, but I'm betting that they had no Idea that so many people would snap it up and jump on the servers as quick as they did. Especially with all the whining and negativity that people were projecting before release. The problem is that the servers are too crowded.
Two of the games you mentioned were single player games that didnt even have to worry about running servers for thousands of people to connect to simultaneously. City of Heroes didn't get the massive surge of subscribers on launch day.. It was a game that built up from word of mouth, allowing for them to gradually ramp up the server stability.

You have to bear in mind that this is a global game. What is a "normal time" for fixes for someone is always a peak time for someone else....
Well you have a very good point there. I always forget about the time differences sometimes. I've grouped with a guy in France on another game, so it threw me off when he was going to bed around 3pm.
Still its all for the best. I would rather have it shut down for a couple hours fixing stuff, then play a crappy bug filled game.

I was given an invitation to the EQ2 Beta 2 weeks before it went live, as part of being a member of MMORPG.com. I played through every single quest on the newbie island, and then many in the place I started, and I can tell you that I ran into so many bugs. Either you suck at seeing things, or we weren't playing the same game.
On the other hand, I played WoW and was instantly having fun in a bug free environment.

They would have to be pretty dumb to not realise the amount of players that would be subscribing, considering they've also released the original EverQuest, Planetside and Star Wars Galaxies. They've had enough experience with the gaming world to realise they should have things in place ready for this sort of thing.
I really don't like the way people defend their actions. Its like, "Aww, poor SOE, they did bad but its okay, 'cos its not their fault.". Well, it is their fault, and to keep accepting this sort of service is just lining yourself up for more of the same (or perhaps worse!) on the release of their future games.
Would you buy a single player game that needed a patch every week just to fix the problems? Hell no. So why should MMO games be any different?
I have encounterd "one" bug so far, i was doing my shell collection quest, i found the last shell, tried to add it to my collection, but my quest never updated, and the item was gone, 10 minutes late POOF server crashes, when it comes back up, my shell quest is finished, just had to walk over and talk to the lady, only bug so far. (and i think it was just my journal not updating)
Calamities are of two kinds: Misfortune to ourselves and good fortune to others
I havnt read the replys, just the main post, so someone might have already said what im about to say
I bought everquest I the day it came out, The servers were down 70% of the time, the First month. They decided to give a second month Free. So Dont talk about a bad launch, this is a great launch compared to passed mmo's
