Want to kill half way decent, but want to be HARD to kill? Pick a DT (thanks to patch 1.04, this class has also become major fun to play and twink with Feat points)
Want to kill fast, but risk life and limb? Pick Barbarian (did not enjoy as much...concentrating on hide so much that other abilities suffer)
Want a good balance of killing and hardiness? Pick Conqueror (Just a good ole tank, and dual wield makes quick work of enemies...)
Dark Templar - Can be feated as Tank or Killer but not both at once (or not that good). And also I belive that your question is about PvP and DT is not best PvP class .
Conqueror - He can take good amount of damage and hit hard. Good PvP class.
Guardian - Its tank, but cant hit.
Barbarian and Assassin - Both can hit hard, but easy to kill.
Herald of Xotli - Its mage, so Cloth armor only. His deamon form make him last longer and hit harder, but its not for long.

Barbarian is great fun. High DPS but can't take a lot of damage. however, they can stealth and shoot bows so over all good melee characters with the ability to solo well.
Conquerer and Dark Templar are both great too. I will add Guardian but they are more of a great tank (takes lots of damage) for a group.

How so? Are you talking PvP or just PvE?
Here's some of the latest feedback on DT's
(post 1.04--but added to today by someone who calls the class "broken"l)
I have to agree with what everyone has said above.
I think it depends on how you like to play (dps or survivor) and if you want a good melee class for PVE or for PVP... or both?
The Barbarian is a very good PVE class, but very difficult to play in PVP, due to his light armor he dies very fast. In PVE he is awesome; alone he is great and if you group up with a guardian nothing can stop you. The guardian will go out and agro the mobs, and then you come in and take the battlefield down in seconds like a machine gun, with heads rolling and blood splitting all over. Awesome fun, especially with the right feats starting at around level 45-50.
But for PVP the Barbarian is hard to play; he is like a Ferrari. You really need to know the class well (of course you can say this for most of the classes), as everything is about dealing to most damage possible in the shortest period of time. I am even having a hard time against guardians, they are strong tanks but even their low damage is too much for my light armor. And in group PVP the opponent is of course going to take you down first...
The Dark Templar depending on how you spec him can be a good survivor or a good damage dealer. He is also a lot of fun to play thanks to his blood based skills and feats, and stronger since the patch.
For PVP I'd say the Conqueror, good tank and good damage if you spec him so.
Yea, I think Dark Templar and Conqueror answer your question, with the Conqueror having an edge on the DT in PvP.

Hmm, you state the OP says it is broken in that thread, but he never mentions that word...even once. This same poster though has stated he thinks that class moves "slower" than others (and he meant movement...lol)
As I stated, it is my favortie class. 1.04 added some extra survivability, but as with ANY class, you will have players who will complain about their class not being the best. For example, the Demo thread is discussing a nerf, there is a nerf thread in Necro, etc, etc.
It really is hard to know how the game is playing or running when you just read forum threads and don't actually play.
But thanks for showing me that post, I will probably add my two cents.
Conq's have nice soldier abilities including some pretty massive immunities / invuls plus they have a two handed spec that dishes out some serious DPS.
However 1v1 an Assassin vs. a caster is almost a sure win. AoD + all the CC + massive DPS = dead squishy.
A conquerer would fit your question the best imho however it requires quite a bit more effort on your part to play it as effectively as a sin.
Assassins are really fast and easy to get kills with in Melee.
In zergs you will go down fast but in small groups you do have some nice self-heals.

poster says on page 2:
"B and C is the core fix to the class. Once this is done, then moving around some feats would completely fix the class."
to me, fixing something suggests it's broken. But DT are notoriously under powered in PvP--but they work in PvE, but as we all know AoC is primarily a PvP game, especially with end-game.
There are more threads of this nature than any other class--always has been, and still is. Here's a couple more.
I can play the game virtually when ever I want, yet I don't sub (because I don't sub to games that suck--sorry). How do you think I can pull off such a feat?

Tough choice here, I look at it this way...

My 3 Favorites...
My suggestion for you is:
...Conqueror!
Dark Templar - Can be feated as Tank or Killer but not both at once (or not that good). And also I belive that your question is about PvP and DT is not best PvP class .
Conqueror - He can take good amount of damage and hit hard. Good PvP class.

So DTs got some love this last patch? I always wanted to make one to try but was told they are the red headed step child of AoC.
So which feat line do you recommend for a PvE DT?
I may delete my necro to make a DT to try. I'm out of slots!!!

I'm having great success with my Guardian
It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.
Conqueror is able to do what you want - kill fast and take a reasonable amount of damage.
Barb is good fun too though, but way easy to kill, takes patience to play. Lol.
Barbarian is great fun. High DPS but can't take a lot of damage. however, they can stealth and shoot bows so over all good melee characters with the ability to solo well.

It's a toss up between a Sin and a Conq.
