If WoW made a FFA PvP full-loot server, would you play it?

absolut187absolut187 Member Posts: 105

Would you pay the ~$50 and the $15/month to play WoW if they made a new server with full-loot and FFA PvP?

Maybe someone at Blizzard will see this thread if we get tons of votes..

It seems like the code would be super easy to implement to change it over to FFA PvP with full loot.

not sure, would be interesting, i love ffa full loot systems, but wow being so gear centric, i don't think it would be very successful. wow is not really a pvp game.

no WOW is a  PVE game, no matter if its FFA or not

    It simply wont work well

  • javacjavac Member Posts: 1,175

wow's pvp is fundamentally broken because of the massive emphasis on gear over skill, so no.

world pvp in wow is also fundamentally broken by level differences.

wow *could have* been a great PVP game but they have gone *way* too far in the PVE direction.

No.  Levels in most games, including WoW include built-in ToHit bonuses for the character against lower level characters/mobs, and a ToHit debuff from lower level characters and mobs.  Higher level players would just plow, even 100% naked, level 3 toons.

     I would because, once again, if the only thing Blizzard changed was the addition of full-loot, leaving everything else the same as currently exists under the WoW PvP server rules,then;

WOW would be the most hardcore game ever created.

    (What's the current FOM class?")

The class system in WOW would kill the PvP. Granted, it is balanced between classes (so rogue vs rogue does takes some skill, or mage vs mage or whatever), but not across classes. If you're a rogue, you can usually beat the crap out of a mage. If you're a warrior, you can usually beat the crap out of a rogue. And to top it all off, the gear makes it really imbalanced so it's a moot point anyway.

No. PvP in WoW was annoying as hell and I got sick of hearing all the bickering "your class is overpowered, nerf this nerf that, blah blah" You don't get any of that in a skill-based MMO.

no, because its totally impossible for skills to be imbalanced, right? No way one selection or another would be OP or not? Classes have less to do with balance than you think, (tho more than you think im implying becuse lets face it you will read it tahat i said NOTHING...)

I mean side swipe sword, in no way, could be more powerful per second that a slower, bash. no, nithing todo with maths at all or anything like that, its auto balanced because its skill based. i fucking love dfbois

Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

    Interesting responses from everyone.

So it sounds like a full-loot FFA PvP game requires the following:

    1. No levels - to avoid making one lvl 50 toon better than 10 lvl 5 toons.
    2. No classes - anyone can learn any skill.
    3. No instances - open sandbox world (or could War's instanced PvP work? anyone play it?)
    4. Limited variation between quality of items (some variation, but not "too much")

    Anything else?

WoW's DIKU style setup would really hinder the enjoyment of FFA PvP full-loot..  The level imbalances, the class imbalances, and not to mention the importance of gear.  If they fully tweaked these imbalances, and made gear so that it wasn't the most important aspect, then maybe it would work. And even then, it would take too much work from the devs to drastically alter their game for a very small portion of fans who like the full-loot niche.  Can you imagine raiding for weeks, maybe even months, for certain armor, then having all that taken away in a flash when you get ganked by some dude, when you were at low health killing a group of mobs?  That would definitely be a keyboard smashing moment.   The ffa loot works so great in DF, and UO, because gear wasn't nearly as important, nor very hard to get.  In DF, you can get some "almost-the-best" plate armor after a few days of skill-up gearing, and a few friends.  In DF, a well organized group of Newbs, can take out a single higher skilled player.  In WoW an ARMY of noobs would be slaughtered by a lvl 50+ in a few seconds by some well placed AOEs. Did you ever see the lvl 1 gnome raid on hogger video? They never had a chance..

Hmmm . . . you just described Counter-Strike, or Quake, or any other number of FPS's.  And those don't cost a monthly fee.

People saying WOW is too gear based....

Just gang up on a few people with good gear...then loot...now you have the best gear!

After a while, people would just start wearing crafted gear cause PVEing to have your gear looted wouldn't be worth it.  Assuming that crafted gear wasn't such a pain to make.  Honestly, would anyone even PVE anyway on an FFA server?

I voted yes because I still have not found an MMO whose gameplay mechanics are as solid as WoW's.

  • DraklonDraklon Member UncommonPosts: 218

    I voted no.

Having played in both systems i feel that levels and Full loot FFA PvP don't mix well.

  • JeraalJeraal Member Posts: 25

Not a snowballs chance in hell was the first thing that came to mind. ;D Wow is way too gearbased, and its very unbalanced around gear aswell, a naked 80 could never kill a fully geared lvl 80.

  • NerphNerph Member UncommonPosts: 69

wow is way to item based, it would never work tbh... farming a raid for 4-5 months only to have some lvl 78 mage pom pyro you when your on 7% hp from a mob fight?? yea, that would be good fun

  • TrikkyMakkTrikkyMakk Member Posts: 61

No because WoW is horribly unbalanced and there is no way to balance your character with the current game mechanics.

  • cult7cult7 Member Posts: 59

LOL imaging killing and full loot a good twink.

  • chazmyrchazmyr Member Posts: 69

I voted no, becuase I hate FFA loot pvp anyway, but that's just me.

  • jakojakojakojako Member Posts: 332

WoW is a PvE game with PvP as an afterthought.

There's just no way it would work out correctly, but i would DEFINATELY have a character on that server and play it.

No, and to be honest, anyone who says yes is trying to be "internet hardcorez". The game is not even remotely designed for that kind of rule set, and with full loot, it would be nigh on unplayable considering the ONLY focus in the game is gear.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Having 6 arena's (each with 2vs2, 3vs3, 5vs5 competition), 5 different Battlegrounds, dozens of daily open world PvP quests in WotLK, several times each night a 100/100 gigantic battle over a destructable Keep and towers with manned combat tanks and riding Artillery in Lake Wintergrasp. Enemy city raids award titles and loot since WotLK.
Add to this a unique ladder rated PvP system which awards one player out of 100.000 players with a Deadly Gladiator title and ... a seperate 200.000 dollars (of real money) tournament on a 6 months basis.
If this is "afterthought" I would like to have ALL MMO's this kind of playing options as an "afterthought" ...

Yes and A.L.L of that came after the release of WoW....

    Afterthought...

Wouldn't work with the level based system. Non-level based interests me more than full-loot.
