Dungeons & Dragons Online: Producer's Letter and Mod 9 Preview

Dungeons & Dragons Online Senior Producer Kate Paiz has posted a letter to the community on the third anniversary of the game's launch, where she talks about upcoming improvements to the game and Module 9, the game's next update.

I wanted to talk a little bit today about some of the features coming out with Module 9. We’ve put a ton of work into Module 9, and as you know, there are features that we can’t talk about yet (but I think we’re closing to announcing soon…) so, in addition to the sneak peeks on the Official Discussions forum, here for your reading pleasure are 5 changes / improvements that are coming in Module 9 (drum roll please):

To start off, we’ve made two changes that have been often requested by our players. The first is the shared bank tab. All subscribers will be able to open their bank, click on the new tab, and place items from your inventory that are bound to account inside this bank tab (bound to character items, mostly raid items, will not be transferable to this tab). Then any other characters on the account can login and pull any of those items into their inventory (note: each bank tab is shard specific – only characters on Argonnessen can reach the Argonnessen shared bank).

The second popular request was to combine the chat channels. In Mod9, all instances of a public area, like the Market, will be routed to the same general tab, and we’ve added an advice and trade channel to each of the public areas as well. You’ll even still be in the public general channel if you enter a dungeon in that area, like the Quickfoot Hideout in the Market. You can customize this in the Options Menu if you don’t want to still hear public chat in the private instance, but the option will now be open to you (and will default to include you in the larger community). This change should help players find groups, get advice and sell things during non-peak hours and just improve overall the general access to other people in the area.

Before commenting, it's good to click the link Szark provided . There are nice screenshots, etc. (I also added them to my profile, with some other).

Good to see the graphics quality, maybe it will go even higher . Great additions / changes are comming, but it's hard to find them for an outsider, because Devs shared them on DDO US forums. Maybe I'll post them later here, or someone else could help here. I'm low on time lately...

But it's great to see many new players in DDO EU, where I play. DDO US has passed the magical 3 years of development and existance, and DDO EU will pass it soon too. So, let's have a drink for the future of DDO!

Of course, those two being of the utmost importance for an MMO.

pray for visible capes/cloaks too! Turbine, wake up! But that's just a detail.

Although, Turbine implemented AI system to handle Animal Companions. It came with hirelings, and works better in each new patch, so at this point adding pets for Rangers should be very easy. Who knows, maybe they are already in works (this is just a sample of information about Mod 9).

But honestly, I'm glad they add 4 new levels rasing cap to 20 finally. Those veterans were screaming for high level content since longer than I could stand , so hopefully this time they'll get something else to scream about .

    Other changes for Mod 9:

    • Maps will show shrines and chests.
    • Many capstone (level 20) enhancements for those that don't multiclass.
    • Many prestige enhancements -> DDO version of prestige classes, divided into 3 or 5 enhancements with prequisites.
    • Many fixes and tweaks for hirelings. They should be able to use even runes with Int requirements, etc.
    • First person view, to which you can scroll with middle mouse button, and scroll out to 3rd. person at will.
    • Floating HP bars and names, as well as new "auto targeting" system, which you can toggle on/off by pressing "G" key.
    • Revamp of the Abbot raid.
    • Chat channels will get a revamp. Three will be global for major zones, and usable even from within quests and other instances: General, Trade Channel and Help Channel. You'll be able to use any of these channels while doing quests, and all will be able to respond. They are linked to major Hubs like Marketplace, and supposedly Khorthos (newbie) Island and similar places.
    • There will be a new bank tab shared by all your characters on one server. So you won't need to mail stuff to your own characters and pay for posting, instead just move those items into "shared bank space". According to developer, UI will be similar to "Buyback" option from vendors.

And probably many other additions / changes. I most likely forgot some other announcements too, sorry. If I find what I missed, will post an update.

So, from hirelings we have AI for pets / familiars. In Mod 9 we'll get shared bank space, which in turn may be a base for creating guild banks, once it's tested. I'm certainly awaiting shapeshifting now, because next new class planned is Druid. And we should get half-orcs and half-elves in near future.

Once the level caps at 20, I hope Turbine will focus on implementing new systems like better guilds, crafting, etc. Of course, more content for all levels would be great too.

    I really can't wait .
