Want FPS style PVP on a massive scale the likes of DFO? One game exsists. Planetside - period.
Sorry BF2/2142 is not my idea of a MMO style FPS. 64vs64 does not equate to the 200vs200 (per planet) that planetside offers.
DFO is nothing new - and frankly from the news i've gathered of it, I'll be sticking around for PS for quite a while longer. Thats provided SOE doesnt get too money hungry and shut our community down.
Its just sad to see all you DFO trolls and fanboi's duking it out for such petty stuff. If you dont like the game, dont play - theres plenty of other games out there. And if you do like it, great! shut up and play it.

I was a "share the wealth" kind of person, until simple stories of my experiences in game got bashed, and the time I took to write them got rewarded with, "You're a paid Aventurine employee" or "Enjoy your blinders, FANBOI, DarkFAIL sucks".
So why bother anymore? If you can't see my frustration then there's no point in discussing this anymore. Imagine if you found a game that you fell in love with, and you wanted to share your experiences with a community, with your only motive to give players who haven't tried a game (because you know how hard it is to get in game) an idea of how much fun you're having....
.... only to get spat on, multiple times, called a liar, rabid ranboi, and informed that "you're still in closed beta n00b". So yeah, I won't be posting any informative information on these forums anymore. I'm sorry for those of you who enjoyed my stories and wanted to hear more (I was initially more then welcome to, actually, I was writing up a post that showed screenshots of cool mob spawns around the world), but this wonderful community has ruined it.

If you want to actually accept that maybe Darkfall is indeed as fun as many people claim, then all I can say is try it out yourself.
You like DF because the freedom. Do whatever you feels like to do. Travel anywere, craft anything, fight anything, trade or or make friends/foes. If you like those kind of thins, there is alkmost no other MMO to choose from.

Daarco, there are SEVERAL other games that allow you do this exact thing. I'm playing Asheron's Call.. And I can "Travel anywhere, craft anything, Fight anything, trade or make friends/foes." Same things were possible in Vanguard.. Lineage 2?? And.. any other FFA PvP game.. Some people need to get out more..

I'm also not surprised you're getting all sorts of assumptions thrown at you (your gaming experience, background, lifestyle, etc). That's just life.
One of the reasons I liked the post was because you were able to directly deal with someone that you felt was doing something AFK. I think the real moral of the story is, "Yeah, sure you can farm...if I don't find you first."
And that's the point. If you hear someone spamming their website for selling gold, you can go kill them. If you learn that a group of guys are killing people who cross the bridge, you can assemble a team and go kill them. You have the freedom to do things, and the only repercussions are in game.
For example, there should be a "fear" of dying. In this game, it's the fact that everything you own becomes lootable. In the same venue, there's also a fear of the other opponent. You can't assume what he is because he's a myriad of skills, whereas in other games he is probably just a class and level.
Well, anyhow, thanks for the post. I have no doubt that there are problems with the game. Sounds, effects, hacks, etc. But what makes me interested is the backbone of the game system. I figure they can patch up sounds, create effects, and prevent hacks as time goes on.

No wonder why you think Darkfall is so awsome.... HERE We've been getting our adrenal kicks on these type of gmes for years. Darkfall is not FPS.
I don't think anyone is claiming that DF is a true FPS, just that its a good port in an MMO setting.

Not to mention, the UI is nothing like a FPS game, you cannot select or use your mouse wheel to bring up different weapons and the sound and animations are amature. Heck, if Aventurine would've just got the sounds decent and made some kick ass character models, I can see them attempting to make a FPS game.
Secondly, most of the people who are "stoked" about DFO, are the same people who never really got into team play Online FPS games. Darkfall is their first, so offcoarse they going to say the game is awsome. They have never been exposed to 30 vs 30 PvP FPS before. Most veterans of the Battlefield franchase have been doing thsi for 8 years..!
Most younger kids only follow heavilty advertised games like FEAR or Call of Duty, but once they get a taste of something a little larger and more in-depth the'd be hooked. Because as far as I am concerned BF2142 hase more characer development and depth than Darkfall. It takes 6 month of medium play to unlock your character's abilities.
Counter-Strike knife fights was just a analogy used to describe Darkfalls melee combat, because it's identicle and old news.
Watch that One -vs- One Darkfall tourney video, then watch BD2142 knife fighting... it's the same combat mechanic, cept in BF you are getting 100 frames per second quallity and combat itself is much faster paced..!

A game that was released last than a week ago?? Sure.. I'll point one out.. EVERYSINGLE ONE (aside from Vanguard). People used to be interested in playing games. Now they are interested in cheaing in video games.. and since no one read the post I quoted.. you all .. lose.
There is no game that doesn't have some sort of bot or macro. Most hacks are controlled by the server by limiting what can be seen by the user. I have never played a game where forums have had 10 posts on one page about hacking in that game. Ever. especially when even the fanboys are arguing that it's "okay" to macro harvesting because it's "boring"..
Since I have an 8 page paper due in 11 hours, this will be short and sweet. Earlier today I had great the experience. Running east towards the human starting areas, where I was planning on taking down some lower skilled players to gain their arrows and gold from goblins they would be farming, and in the silence of night I hear a "chop, chop, chop" to the northeast, way in the distance. As usual, I head towards the sound of players, always looking for a kill to quench my thirst for blood. As I travel towards the direction of the sound, it gets louder... louder... and louder... I pull out my two hander and crouch, slowly approaching my prey. I use the cover of darkness to my advantage, moving from tree to tree, bush to bush, rock to rock, to ensure my prey does not notice my movements. Eventually I reach him: a naked orc logging a tree for lumber. I charge forward, but as I get close I notice he isn't even afraid of me or getting prepared for battle! I get right in front of him and laugh, I know exactly what he is doing: farming lumber with a macro. I kill him quickly and take his loot. Quite a success and a great opportunity to supply my guild's crafters with quite the killing of crafting supplies.
Moral of the story? You can as of now macro in Darkfall, but because of FFA PvP, you're bound to get screwed in the end.
I'm glad you killed the afk macro'r. Macros are least of my concerns. From what I gather from factual sources are : dupes ,speedhacks and many other exploits are the real issues.
Nice job though on killing the euro afk bot though.
no dupes really just so ai issue with mobs not atacking people in the water but really some mobs cant swim anyways so really its not really to big of issue they jsut need to get rid of that small bug. hacks well all mmos have hacks including ffxi whitch they started banning for

Have you ever seen so much hate for a game before it even released? Have you ever seen that hate continue even AFTER it was released?
Not I, not even AoC forums were this bad AFTER launch, and that game had actual REAL problems, like people crashing and BSOD'ing all the time.

If you want to actually accept that maybe Darkfall is indeed as fun as many people claim, then all I can say is try it out yourself then you are free to derive your own conclusions based solely on your opinion using facts from the available media and reviews out there as to whether or not the game is worth buying .

I enjoyed the post.
I'm also not surprised you're getting all sorts of assumptions thrown at you (your gaming experience, background, lifestyle, etc). That's just life.
One of the reasons I liked the post was because you were able to directly deal with someone that you felt was doing something AFK. I think the real moral of the story is, "Yeah, sure you can farm...if I don't find you first."
And that's the point. If you hear someone spamming their website for selling gold, you can go kill them. If you learn that a group of guys are killing people who cross the bridge, you can assemble a team and go kill them. You have the freedom to do things, and the only repercussions are in game.
For example, there should be a "fear" of dying. In this game, it's the fact that everything you own becomes lootable. In the same venue, there's also a fear of the other opponent. You can't assume what he is because he's a myriad of skills, whereas in other games he is probably just a class and level.
Well, anyhow, thanks for the post. I have no doubt that there are problems with the game. Sounds, effects, hacks, etc. But what makes me interested is the backbone of the game system. I figure they can patch up sounds, create effects, and prevent hacks as time goes on.

I don't think anyone is claiming that DF is a true FPS, just that its a good port in an MMO setting.
What? Combat is all Darkfall has.... and the FPS combat in Darkfall sucks ass. Have you played?
Not to mention, the UI is nothing like a FPS game, you cannot select or use your mouse wheel to bring up different weapons and the sound and animations are amature. Heck, if Aventurine would've just got the sounds decent and made some kick ass character models, I can see them attempting to make a FPS game.
Secondly, most of the people who are "stoked" about DFO, are the same people who never really got into team play Online FPS games. Darkfall is their first, so offcoarse they going to say the game is awsome. They have never been exposed to 30 vs 30 PvP FPS before. Most veterans of the Battlefield franchase have been doing thsi for 8 years..!
Most younger kids only follow heavilty advertised games like FEAR or Call of Duty, but once they get a taste of something a little larger and more in-depth the'd be hooked. Because as far as I am concerned BF2142 hase more characer development and depth than Darkfall. It takes 6 month of medium play to unlock your character's abilities.
Counter-Strike knife fights was just a analogy used to describe Darkfalls melee combat, because it's identicle and old news.
Watch that One -vs- One Darkfall tourney video, then watch BD2142 knife fighting... it's the same combat mechanic, cept in BF you are getting 100 frames per second quallity and combat itself is much faster paced..!

A game that was released last than a week ago?? Sure.. I'll point one out.. EVERYSINGLE ONE (aside from Vanguard). People used to be interested in playing games. Now they are interested in cheaing in video games.. and since no one read the post I quoted.. you all .. lose.
There is no game that doesn't have some sort of bot or macro. Most hacks are controlled by the server by limiting what can be seen by the user. I have never played a game where forums have had 10 posts on one page about hacking in that game. Ever. especially when even the fanboys are arguing that it's "okay" to macro harvesting because it's "boring"..

I'm glad you killed the afk macro'r. Macros are least of my concerns. From what I gather from factual sources are : dupes ,speedhacks and many other exploits are the real issues.
Nice job though on killing the euro afk bot though.
no dupes really just so ai issue with mobs not atacking people in the water but really some mobs cant swim anyways so really its not really to big of issue they jsut need to get rid of that small bug. hacks well all mmos have hacks including ffxi whitch they started banning for

Not I, not even AoC forums were this bad AFTER launch, and that game had actual REAL problems, like people crashing and BSOD'ing all the time.
