Game has a serious problem

Billius8Billius8 Member Posts: 574

Everquest 2 has some great plusses, but some serious fatal flaws:

Plusses:

Graphics are very good, even on low settings.
Character stats are very well thought out.
World looks like it may be very interesting.

Fatal flaws:

This branching character path thing and the two city design sets people up for "Oh, no, I made the wrong choice, now I have to start all over!" You go to Freeport and you wish you had chosen Qeynos. You go to Qeynos and you wish you had chosen Freeport. You make a Scout and wish it had been a fighter, visa versa. The tutorial is great first time through, annoying after that.
The quests are perhaps too numerous and I get the feeling I'm playing an RPG with a linear storyline instead of a MMORPG.

EQ2 has better graphics and mechanics, but I think perhaps that EQLive was a better game. EQ2 feels like Horizon mixed with Final Fantasy (on steroids!).

Will give it more time, but I feel very restricted (and even forced) in my choices with this game. I do not feel like the freebooting adventurer who can travel anywhere (or almost anywhere), but more like someone in a scripted story.

I sugest you play the game for awhile before you comment...
if you decide you want to change cities...you can by completing a quest.
if you decide you chose the wrong class, re-roll. the first several levels go by very fast.
you dont have to complete all the quests if you dont want to, in fact i would say it would be very hard to complete all the quests. the reason there are so may is to give you plenty of options. you can do all of them, some of them or none of them.
you can opt to bypass the tutorial in character creation.

You apparently haven't guessed yet that making people reroll new characters to gain access to new content is one of the easy, cheap ways the gaming companies attempt to keep the players in the game.

The mechanics of this scheme are so simple, that few people even complain, taking it for granted.

use your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th character slot for the other city, reroll, or do the quest and switch... you spoke too soon with too little knowledge. image

All that i wanted to say been said.

Quests can be deleted most quest give an item and exp but have no bearing on your future character apart from the hallmarks and a few quests i am sure u have not even seen yet unless you are near level 20 or above.

My beef with the game is the daily downtime thats happening for 4 hours smack into euro time .

Which is different from every other game...how, exactly?

    It's also skippable.

The quests are numerous, but they are also optional aside from the Hallmark quests.

I'm on my 4th character in three days, been re-rolling. This time it's to get away from the players with asshat names like "Http", "JessicasMom", etc and probably migrate to a roleplaying server where, hopefully, folks take the game more seriously.

Still, I think EQ2 would have been better served with the original starting towns and such, or at least more variety than "you're good" or "you're evil."

The game is dumbed down some and a bit forced; that's just a fact. Would have been happier had they thrown me into the world and let me find out for myself that I "do not want to go into that forest after night until I'm level 40 or higher."

theres only one thing i hate about eq2. only 4 character slots. that drives me insane. im one of those people that likes to have alot of alts. Other than that i love the game. the lack of quests was one of the things i hated about eqlive.

No... tutorials, especially EQ2's tutorial which takes 3 mins to complete when you can skip all the teaching dialogue is easy.  Once on the Island of Refuge, it may be anoying if you have to do it for every char you create.  but like any good MMORPG, they are good.

I mean you do the quests, you get free armor, free weapons and easy starting money.   It's a must.

Plus you'll be level 4-6 by the time you leave the island.  I cannot imagine going to Queynos at only Level 2.  All the craetures will be Red or Orange to you, you'll have a hard time.  It's better this way.

Like in City of Heroes, I must of made at least 15 superheroes, and all 15 I did the Tutorial cause you emerge from there as Level 2 and near Level 3, it gets easier when you enter the main part of the city to start really playing.

I agree you should play the game more before stating all these.

You can do a betray quest and Transfer yourself 1 time and 1 time only to another city.  So You dont just have to start over.   The branching skill system is actually really great.  Its immersing you in the fact hey Im a low level character I want to train really hard and become this like awsome character.  But doing it from almost a story point.  You aren't just born into a job as a ranger.  You gotta start somewhere right?

This game is far far far superior than EQ, it gets rid of all the super gaming that the Planes of power unleashed, and Horizons? OMG that game sucked it was so boring after like a week, because you could become anything you want and you never had to group. It might as well of been a one player game.

Restrictions are there for a purpose but if you paid any attention to pre-launch details those restrictions are worth all the stuff you get to choose from as you get older.

I personally feel like a Wandering Adventurer I've been all over Antonica, all over every city.  I definitly dont feel restricted in my roll!

Has a Qeynos citizen been able to sneak about through Freeport?  Or at least through the Freeport sewer system?  Is there that kind of freedom in the game?

Also, when adventuring through the levels, are there lots of zones to choose from for hunting?  Or is it, levels 6 -10, everyone hunts in A, levels 11-20, everyone hunts in B, levels 21-30, everyone hunts in C, etc...

I know EQLive had lots of issues, mostly after Luclin and POP, but the basic game did give players lots of choices.  You could do your low levelling in Blackburrow or Everfrost or Misty Thicket or Butcherblock or Crushbone or FOB or wherever it is the gnomes hunted, or East and West Commons or Befallen, etc...

Is it that kind of variety and freedom?
