I am utterly disapointed with everything that has been going on. I played beta and I absolutely love the game. Though, this is just getting rediculous. The company cannot even manage to keep a website up and running, can't manage to process orders in a timely process. They can't even manage to do a full release and allow all who want to play, play. It is very obvious about 400-500,000 people want to play Darkfall. Hence, the reason they should have ample servers to do it. I don't care if they don't have the money, take out another god damn loan. It isn't that big of a deal to me that I can't play, I really don't care. The fact more is im disapointed to see companies in the world run like this.

if you were in beta you were given a notice and a little headstart in getting your account.
I remember reading Tasos wrote that somewhere.
Yes and my pre-order was one of the ones that got screwed up, not a big deal. This is not about not playing. It is about people allowing a company to take their money when they provide horrible service.

I think 400-500,00 is a gross exaggeration. Afterall, this a niche game. Its not for everyone, just a small portion of the MMO community.
It was a niche game but now that Warhammer, AoC, and several other games have failed miserably, 99% of those people are going to atleast want to try Darkfall.

The people that stuck with Warhammer and AoC through all the hoopla are more lkely to stck with their game, now. With all the negativity surrounding Darkfall, why would they leave. Again gross exaggeration.
400.000 or 500.000 people? Obvious? Where? I would agree on 40-50.000, even 100.000. But half a milion... Think it's a huge overestimation.
Lol look at it this way. On the official forums there is over 350k registered users. Yea some of those accounts are multiples so lets take away 150k. That leaves 200k people that are most likely going to buy the game. Only about 2/5 gamers post on forums, a lot just cannot be bothered by it. I get that 2/5 number by surveys done by IGN Vn Boards. So if 200k = 2/5. That means about 500,000 people want to play.

I'm not sure I agree with that logic...seems a bit...weird...
right my guild are 40 people try to buy the game(including those successfully playing right now) and only 10 registered in forums for beta but now want to get in after the very good reviews given of our beta guildies and people who manged to purchase and the finally guild decision to leave our current MMO and settle for a home on Agon..i expect this may happened with a lot of Guilds..

How is that logic wierd? Look what the guy above me just posted thats some proof right there. Similarly, My guild has about 55-50 people that want to play. There are only 7 of us that have forum accounts or follow forums at all. Most of those players don't even use our guild forums.

That is indeed what it is about. Then why are you trying to give them your money? In essence, rewarding them for their bad service.
The sad part is, if we wait until they get their act together we will probably be waiting forever.
You should take into account how many of those 200.000 people is no longer interested in the game. Many people created an account years ago and has simply moved on.
Also, people like me, I have an account and I'm not buying the game, for now at least.
About the 2/5, probably in the case of Darkfall that figure is different, since it's a hardcore niche game, I would think most of the people interested go to the forums so maybe it's 4/5.
I have to agree with mrcalhou on this one. You guys are just pulling numbers out of your butts.
It seems very odd to me that a game would suffer from "too many people wanting to join". Perhaps the global economy (and lack of investment capital) is partly to blame. I can't imagine too many banks are willing to pony up $$$ for yet aother mmorpg in a saturated market. Especially when one considers the laundry list of recent failures, flops and disapointments. I hope they (adventurine) get thier act together in a timely fashion. I like rooting for the underdog. Would be a pity to see all thier hard work go down the tubes.
You guys are brainless. If the game was a niche game we wouldn't be having all these problems to play it. 1 server would be ample to support all players of a niche game. Also, there wouldn't be mad rushes to get an account going or any other problem we face.

Or look at it this way:
45k members over the course of 7+ years. Beta gets announced and the numbers shoot up to 350k (305k growth in less than a month)
Of that growth you have to take into consideration the people who app'd for beta multiple times (average person on the net will have from 2 to 10 email addresses thanks to things like Gmail, Hotmail, etc and will use more than 2 emails to get into a beta)
The Beta leak forums contained links to every free email site on the web with details on how many accounts you could create with each site. People were talking about how they used anywhere between 12 and 100 email addys to create beta sign up accounts (with one guy claiming to have app'd almost 200 times and finally got a single invite)
Then take into consideration the amount of people posting to the official forums, these forums and other hub sites that have a darkfall forum and you will see on average about 20 people posting (most times the same users from the other sites, same name and all)
So now you have the base number that was what, a lil over 45k users over the past 7+ years and maybe some word of mouth people interested in the game (lets double that base number to a nice round 100k)
I would safely guess that there are around 90 to 100k people in or looking to play Darkfall, most of them sitting outside the game while around 6k people can actually play.
I doubt there would be anywhere a half million people waiting to play this game, and 100k isnt a bad number at all, its just a tad under the 150k players UO had pre renaissance. Most people have not heard of this game or just dont care about it.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Sorry, you are right, it's around half a milion now and what? one milion in one year? The sky is the limit. Your are right and bright!
I think 400-500,00 is a gross exaggeration. Afterall, this a niche game. Its not for everyone, just a small portion of the MMO community.
what makes it a niche game, other than the fact that only a few people are ALLOWED to play it?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
wow...
just wow...
A niche game would probably fall in the 50-100k range and the only game that can support that on one server is EVE which uses a completely different style of engine than most MMOs...
Even with 50-100k people, they would probably need 3-5 servers, problem is, they can't afford it until they get the first server to capacity. I think even by their estimates, they can only handle 8k at one time and 10-11k if they managed to fully tweak the server. So figure 8k concurrent, figure no more than 40% on at any one time and that is still only about 20k accounts, that leaves you needing 3 servers at 50k accounts and at 100k, you'd need 5, taking into account the assumptions above anyways.
The reason for the 'mad rush' is because they are only selling the game by the 1000s, not the 10,000s.
Remember games like AoC had over 1mm copies sold, they have how many subscribers now? 150k or so? How many servers did they really buy that they didn't need?
People, you're not getting it.
The demand for this game is VERY LOW. It looks high because they a whooping < 10.000 copies (6000 as of yesterday). I mean, Runes of Magic gets that many players on a DAILY BASIS.
I think 400-500,00 is a gross exaggeration. Afterall, this a niche game. Its not for everyone, just a small portion of the MMO community.

it is a fps style FFA PvP mmorpg and that isn't going to fly with a huge percentage of the MMO player base, thus making it a niche game.
edit:
Note, this does not make it a bad game, just one that alot of people are not likely to enjoy due to their own gaming tastes.
The reason there are mad rushes to play the game is due to the fact that out of a server that was supposedly able to house 50k players (10k at any given time online) around 5k preorders were sold before the order forms were taken down.
Their account and billing system is the most F'd up system as well, with its inability to handle more than 2-6k people hitting it at the same time. Their system is like going to a dept store with 20 checkout lanes with only 2 of those lanes open and 40k customers waiting to be checked out 5 minutes before closing.
Also if you notice its the same 15-20 people whining about not getting an account due to the shop being down. If it were such a mad rush, you would see news articles comparing it to other games and console systems that experienced short supply versus large demand.
The game is niche, its player base is small and the amount of players trying to get in game is not all that major. Whats causing this "mad rush" is the fact they only allow X amount of accounts for X amount of time to be made giving the illusion that there is insane demand when in fact its just an inept sales and ordering system.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
They are simply using the economic structure of supply and demand to benefit them. Making the game look more "wanted" than it actually is.
People are so dumb. They just dont understand math.. yes AoC sold 1,000,000 copies in the first 3 months. Darkfall will b lucky if it sells 50,000.
The worst thing is there gonna be spending the next 3 months trying to get more people in the game instead of fixing the game and adding mroe content. CMON ADVENTURIne. HIRE MORE DEVELOPERS> GET THIS THING ROLLING.
