FFXI more popular?

VapiantVapiant Member Posts: 56

A half years ago, I think that FFXI where rated for about 6.9 and now it's just above 8! I played the game alot and it's my favorite ever, so I was wondering why the game have been rated higher, a new patch or what?

PS: havent played the game in more than a half year, so that's why I don't know :D

There's always I chance for something new and exciting to happen, so I can always wait until tomorrow.

It probably has to do with the huge influx of new and returning players.  I cant wait for the census to see the numbers.  They have to have gone up 10k people and i'm being conservative probably.

Square's new shift to more "short-burst" content is really starting to pay dividends. It wll never be enough to change public oppinion that FFXI is a fairly hardcore game, but I do think it keeps around many of the old timers who have grown up and gotten jobs the past ~7 years.

Exactly, the game is still a grind, but it's not like it used to be.  The game is a little more solo-friendly if you don't have time to wait for party, or to put one together.  Between the new level-sync feature, campaign, and fields of valor, you have a lot more options open to you.  I'm one of the returning players myself, as are four of my co-workers.

I would guess Suply is pretty close with his figure, but agree that it is probably a little more.  Anyhow, if you come back, you'll have fun.  You know this game is like heroin.

This was my first MMO and there just are no games like this and I'm not really into grind games but its better then playing some game that takes a week to gain max level.

Even though there is grind in this game, it's masked by being part of a team effort. If ever grinding could be considered enjoyable, it would only be in this game.

Granted, some nights I just log off and play WAR or WoW or LOTRO or DAOC for my quick fix, but I still keep coming back to the beauty, depth and STORY of FFXI. Now, all new level sync really made the grind less of an issue.

Why would you say WoW is not a grind, seriously WoW is even a bigger grind then FFXI

The only differences is whether you can start a group up or not.

For those like me, i log on ...right away start a group and running, i never felt it is a grind.

Consider i never earn any experiences lower then 8000xp/hour. It only take 2-3 hours max per level. starting from 50+

WoW, leveing up from 50-60 each level requirs 4 hours PER LEVEL even if you do QUESTs, then 60-70 each level require 6-7 hours. I never did 70-80 so i don't know, but i expect 6-10 hours PER level.

How would you compare FFXI as a grind and WoW is not? Seriously :P

I can get a 75 chr within 2 month less with casual play time starting from scatch.

For FFXI, its all in the matter how your play style is. WOW is a TRUE grind, Nothing but a GRIND, FFXI isn't, why can't you people see the LIGHT?

I never buy into ranking /ratings ever, this site only rates the game 6.5.That is pretty low considering i think the game has a lot of good points, and of course every game has bad points.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I have a thought myself to of why it have become more popular. alot of people (including myself) has been discussing, how good this game is and why. There where alot of "FFXI haters" if I may calll 'em, and then there were alot of "FFXI is my first and favorite" like me. Many times we turned them to like the game, I made my own topic called "For haters and newbs of FFXI see this" or something like that, I think that was the end of the discussion. So after all this talking about FFXI people might, became interrested and maybe saw all the good stuff in the game. I don't like writing long text, so I'm hoping you know what I mean.

Oh and I'm from Denmark and here the teacher's doesn't teach us, what grinding means in connection of MMORPG's xD can anyone explaine.

And I'll probably first return to Vanadiel at summer time, when im finished with school, but I will!

Grinding just means getting exp off mobs and not from quest/missions. Usually will be synonomus with leveling very slowly  and working very hard to do so (as in comparision to grinding down a stone), but this isn't always the case.

I allways liked that it is hard to gain lvls in FFXI, I don't get people who say "grinding issue". There are some saying they hope it, will be fixed. But my thought is that, you shouldn't change a games diffculty level, hate that flyff has 1.5 x exp running all the time (I know flyff is a little weak, but I'm like playing 8 micro payment mmos in the moment, because I'm bored) You fill more of a pro gamer, when you look at all those WoW gamers threads the game is to hard! I can't take it I wan't to play WoW again! :D

And that's how all "FFXI my first mmo" feels, and other people has a hard time getting why, but can anyone imagine this game die? If the next SE mmorpg Rapture becomes a success it would maybe be hard for FFXI to stay popular, and would allways be a game in the background.

Well i hope FFXI does not get cancelled anytime soon, but if it does I had my eyes on SW:TOR since it was announced and also APB. Other then those two games then i just will quit MMO's all together if FFXI gets shutdown.

Im with just about everyone on this thread. This was my first MMO and I myself just cant find a game that keeps me hooked like this grant it Ive been off the stuff since early 2006. I think the reason most feel this way is the fact that the game requires you to socialize to get to that next level. When I left in 06 you couldnt do anything without a group and I loved that. Its what us first timers (mmo) are accustom to. You can go play wow and its quite possible that by the time you reach lvl 50 you have only spoken to a few people. Not just that but everything about this game is so different than modern MMOs out there.

As for grind its definitely there. Its just more enjoyable than games like WoW b/c you always got people around, in non instanced groups. Its the social aspect.

lol i don't think Rapture will be good, just have this feeling.. most new mmo's flop. FFXI is still amazing, all they need to do is upgrade to directx9 and add new content every so often.

I'm comfortable thinking that Rapture will be good because I feel that it will be more like "still amazing" FFXI than the new "flop" MMOs that came out.

Rapture should be interesting, I just hope they'll offer more player-against-player activities than in FFXI.

I am an old FFXI player.  It is my first .  When I was playing it was the most popular until WOW came out.  WOW sucked and poeple came back.  There is nothing like the community in FFXI.  I still wish I had my information on the game so I could come back to play.  Starting over though to me is way out of the question.  It would take way to long to get to where I was.   My question though is this.  How is traveling around now?  One of the main reasons why I left was it took forever to go places. My buddies and I keep thinking about checking it out again.  It was the best.

why did you say your not gonna play again cause it would take forever to get where you were, then said you were thinking of checking it out again?

Transporation has not changed. The only addition is you can raise your own chocobo to call upon when you want. It still cost you gil though as the item to call only has 25 charges and you have to pay per charge to recharge it. Also that chocobo is probably going to be slower than the ones you get from the stables. Other than that you still have your boats and airships and it does take you 10-15 minutes to cross some zones.

Honestly If you take time to do the Lure of the WIld cat quests (trasporation to Whitegate for 300 gil), play silver pieces to the warp taru (so you can warp back home if you want), get your Outpost Quests done, and keep a warp stick on you. You can pretty much get anywhere pretty quickly. It is the people who don't do this that end up having a problem with travel. And for some reason they like WoW's travelling that task 20-25 minutes to take a griffen across the world. I don't get it.

    A. Nothing has been said about this game at all. So unless you've got a crystal ball.. :)

    B. It's made by Square Enix, even their bad games have a certain charm.

Also I LOVE FIELDS OF VALOR!!!!!!!!! I hope the april update increases the levels it's available in.
