Friend of mine in the bootcamp doesn't believe darkfall is in trouble. How do I convince him?

KaiphasKaiphas Member Posts: 59

My friend has been following Darkfall for a while. He was really interested in the game. He signed up a month ago and got into the beta test.

He believed Darkfall was the next WoW, and would finally 'evolve' mmorpgs to become more free form. He was pretty convinced that the developers would have all the bug issues resolved by release. I mailed him some updates about how the release is going, but he didn't really buy into them. He dismissed the problems as temporary, and said that Darkfall will be 'perfect' once they are fixed.

What hard facts can I give him to make him believe that the bugs are not being fixed quickly and that there are alot of unhappy people in the forums?

Seriously sometimes I think Darkfall is the only thing that is keeping him going in the military, and he refuses to believe it has flaws.

EDIT: What I tell him about Darkfall can be positive or negative. I just want to give him an idea how things are going in darkfall.

If you don't like it, don't play it.

Darkfall is the only thing keeping him going in the Military?   my god your country is screwed if you go to war and games are the reason your soldiers are fighting

moving on, why bother trying to convince him?  he clearly wont believe you no matter what you do.  Let him play the game for himself and see if he judges it at the next WoW (boy is he in for a shock)

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

If he is your friend why work so hard to change his mind? I mean, if it works for him and it's like some religion for him then thats great. If I were you I would be more worried what will happen if the game does fail. :/

so far i really like DF there is no reason to convince anyone about anything..just tell him your opinion and let him judge by himself either from research at forums/google either by actually try the game after beta.

ROFL! Hes a boot and hes obsessed with playing DF? I seem to recall I didnt have very much time to worry about 'gamez" when I was in the service. Tell him this, he better get his head screwed on real tight and focus on learning everything he can, or he may not have a head onces hes deployed. This isnt a peacetime army anymore, you can be deployed for years, you can also be subject to stoploss and spend even more time in some godforsaken place IF they feel they still need you, irrespective of your enlistment expiring.

Please dont tell me he has a combat arms MOS.

    Wow...

If you tell him and convince him he might snap and kill himself/others (if he knew how bad the truth is)

If you tell him he might get his buddies killed through distraction

if you DON'T tell him me might get himself killed through distraction

If you don't tell him, he gets home, then plays Darkfail he might kill himself, or maybe you for not telling him earlier....

Anyway you look at it, you are screwed.

If your friend believes it doesnt have flaws then please, what ever you do, do not let him join the military. We dont need that type of person in the military. IT would be like giving a downsyndromed kid a gun and shipping him off to war. Not a great idea.

That said, this doesnt mean darkfall is not fun for some people. Darkfall is in as much danger trouble as Anarchy Online was back in the day. People still play it, and enough profit is made for it to keep going, same goes for vanguard.

airforce. I have no clue... he didn't require them to put a job in his contract so I think he might end up going wherever they want to send him. The AF is mostly in the US, right?

No...the USA has bases all over the world. Most of those bases are Air Force, or share "space" with other branches. He could end up in Afganistan, Korea, Iraq, each a potential tinderbox. Or he could end up on some remote location staffing a small site in the middle of Georgia or worse. IF he didnt get them to give him a speciality he could end up as just about anything. Tell him if he has any kind of chance to pick advanced training to try to get into the Predator program. Onces hes out he can work as a DOD contractor making big cashish doing the same job...only as a civilian.

Or he could get lucky and get a assignment in someplace like Turkey and spend all of his free time at the beach. Err unless hes at Incirlik.  I wonder if NATO still has summer hours in Izmir, they got off at noon during the summer. Not a bad deal!

Just tell the guy to steer away from security police and to date.   I can't imagine having spent my tour gaming, thats for when you are married for chrissakes.

But then again maybe chicks aren't as much a distraction to Air Force guys as they are to grunts

But really, most reasonble geeks set it aside for their tour and spend what little time out of the field they get soaking up life and reveling in health, youth, inebriation and sex.

Unless the poor guy is truly socially challenged, he won't wind up playing much of anything but the field.

    Isn't that obvious?

You can show him the links to the things you list here. Videos that show the bugs and exploits. Forums that include topics by unhappy customers.

You just have to be quick about it, since there is a lot being locked and deleted.

Comparing darkfall to religion, with alot of the people following the game, why does it seem to fit so well?

If DF is the only thing that keeps him going, I would lie to him and say the game is doing fine....why would you want him to feel bad?

*How to identify your fellow troops and allies

Why would he care about DF when he'll be engaging in RL FFA PvP?

The armed forces is about as hardcore as you can get.

Besides the obvious sarcasm/attempt to get someone to compile a list of "Hard Facts" (Why Darkfall sucks)

The Airforce has bases all over the world. When I did my 4 years in the Airforce, I went to germany, England, Spain, Japan, and Qatar. I was stationed out of Georgia. There are alot of great places you can end up in the Airforce depending on what job you have. i was a aircraft mechanic on KC-135's.

I also agree that your friend, if there really is a friend, should not be a cop. Unless he thinks 10-12 hour days standing at the base entrances checking ID's all day is fun.

During basic training, I know that I really looked forward to mail from the outside on things I follow and enjoy. My wife at the time would send me clippings of how my beloved Pirates were underperforming and so on. I can see how this kid could use info about a game as something to keep him going. Don't try to convince him DF is in trouble, send him all the positive and negatice info and let him decide on his own.

I can see in the near future a certain scene from "Full Metal Jacket" being replayed in that place and your friend being one of the protagonists of it

DO YOU LIKE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES PRIVATE??

EDIT:better image of R. Lee Ermey

    Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

Links? He's in boot camp man... He only gets the occassional phone call and only has enough time to shoot me a letter here and there.

And no people, I'm not BSing. This guy LIVED for darkfall.

I don't see why it is such a crazy story. Plenty of gamers go into the military, especially ones who wasted their shot at college playing MMOs lol.

Fact is, he wrote me a letter asking how Darkfall is going.

Haha, True dat. It IS FFA, you can kill anyone anywhere, regardless of factions. I guess you could say he'll be in guild warfare.
