On 29 August 2001, Razorwax announced the development of Darkfall and launched its official website. Today is March 3rd, 2009. That’s almost 8 years in development. And what does this community and Aventurine have to show for it? • Less than 6,000 users?
• None of which can stay logged in for over a few hours.
• Some of which get stuck in the world and never get out.
• Fragmented guilds/players who can’t even log in at the same time.
• A large portion of the community left out and behind due to a failed purchasing system.
• Double, triple, no charge no post-backs and other failures in the purchasing system.
• Shutting down customer support and forums because you simply couldn’t deal with the clients.
• The worst community relations of any MMO in history. (IRC cowboys != community relations)
• The only MMO in history to miss its own release date.
• The worst AI in the history of MMO’s
• The worst UI in the history of MMO’s (debatable I suppose!)
• The worst Quests in the history of MMO’s (Why did you even bother).
• The most tedious combat system in the history of ANY game FPS or MMO.
• Suppression of anything remotely negative about your performance as a service provider. And failure to take responsibility for your mistakes. Now to be fair I want to talk about what they have done correct:
• PVP full loot.
• FFA PVP.
all those things are trivial when compared to alternative boring theme park games ...where every new one is a rehash of a rehash.
im gonna get this game when i can because its the type of game i want to play even with all the problems .
it has a small dev team like 5 people...so i understand 99% of what they are going though and will wait for my chance to get in.
There is nothing wrong with theme park games. If you want a sand box game then go play Shadowbane (free and better than DFO) or AoC (also better than DFO).
AOC isnt a sandbox......
Not a full on sand box, I agree, but moreso than WoW and EQ and those types of games.
Its more linear than WoW man.
I disagree. There is player driven content in AoC (guild conflict, seiging). WoW is simply faction and gear grinds ad nauseum.

QFT. AoC leads you through isntance after instance in almost a direct path. Kinda like WAR
Ultima Online is the only true sandbox game were you could do ALOT of things from poision some food and give it to another players to the ultimate houseing decoration to ffa full loot pvp ect.
How much sandbox is it in DFO?
Not much at all, so Darkfall is not a sandbox game, its a ffa full loot MMO with a skill system and thats it.
OP: You haven't played DFO and you continue to trash the game based on a first week launch. You are falling victim to the same folly that a lot of people do. Look at AoC, 1000s of people refuse to admit that the game has improved imensely and will never try the game out again. Once DF is improved, it will be a great game. Hell I remember testimonials from the first 20k eve players saying how fail that game is. Now look at it.

You are running out of excuses kid. I BETA TESTED DFO FOR ABOUT A MONTH PRIOR TO LAUNCH. In other words, I played DFO for at least 3 hours a day for 3 weeks and sometimes for 10+ hours a day. The last week I was simply macro'ing and bored and can't say I played much. Get outta of here.

Eh, I leveled to 80 without going through all the zones in AoC. I say its sandbox because there is player driven content outside of the PvE such as sieging and guild wars.

I don't know much about UO since I didn't get to play it, but was all that stuff in game on day one?
DFO has the basics needed to trun it into a fully fledge Sandbox game. Sure, it may never be on UO's level by selling people posion food, and it may never have player houssing (I hope it does eventually I love player housing), but everything else: Siegeing, Factional system, FFA, Full loot, Skill based, crafting, eventually player dirven economy (economy doesn't get built in a day) are all present. Look at EvE: it had all the makings of a great Sandbox MMO on day 1, but it took a month or two for it to fully be reveled because its a player driven game, hopefully the same will happen with DF (no reason it shouldn't).
I'm not quitting. I have to go to work. When I get back after rock climbing this thread will probably no longer be on the front page.
Thanks for registering on this website just to make an account to trash the game by telling us all things we have never read before.
Thanks for clicking on and reading my thread just to tell me that you knew that the world knew that DFO sucks prior to reading the aforesaid clicked upon thread.

So to recap.
Out of the account system, which obviously is crap, you made half of the bad things you got on your list.
The other half is made by the problems DF had the first 3 days of launch, which are now been sorted.
So I shortened your list as it should be:
- Crap account system, the fact they have to manually enter the details means that only few people got in game
- Technical problems the first 3 days, sorted already (AI, Sync and login problems)
- Understimation of Bandwidth and Server loads.
- PVE fairly disappointing...............but DF is mainly a PvP game so I believe is intended
- Shit PR and communications.
- They missed the launch day by 1 day..............hey they could have postponed the release for another 3 months like AoC and WAR (which they did 3 times each) but let's bash AV for 1 day.
All of the above could be avoided with better planning, so no excuses for Aventurine, the releae hasn't been succesful at all, we all agree with it, fanboys and haters.
There you go.
Everything else you mention, it's either not true or sorted already.
On the other hand, what Aventurine delivered:
- A Huge and beautiful world.
- Good Rogue system, need to be adjusted but it is working fine for the moment.
- PVP system fully implemented, working well and enjoyable.
- Excellent Guild management tool, better than any game I played.
- Full Loot, believe me this is quite fun, everyone should try it.
- Excellent Crafting, although at the moment not central to the economy, and gathering is a bit repetitive.
- Skill System, full implemented and a breath of fresh air in comparison of the usual level based crap.
- City building, fully implemented
- Ship Building, fully implemented
- Sieges, fully implemented
- Very few bugs, also considering the game has been tested by the public for just 1 month, so good job of the internal testers.
- The UI is functional and well made, it is just not visually pretty, but that can be easily corrected
To me this seems a pretty good list of fully working features, which very few MMO with better budget can boast on release, so I will hardly call it a failure.
If it wasn't for the crap Account Infrastructure and the low bandwidth and server load estimation, this would have been the best release of a MMO after WoW, EQ2 and maybe WAR, but keep in mind AV has a fraction of the investment of those.
So we have now to queue up to buy the game, annoying yes, but at least I know that when I get in I will have a decent MMO to play just for a change.
If I have to choose between a bad release VS a crap game, I will go for the first any time.

Wow, nice big list. Of course, all of it is speculation and opinion.
Next time try listing facutal information that can be proven if you want to have a discussion with the adults on this forum. All you'll get out of this is fanboys and haters posting immature one-liners.

It is pretty much common knowledge to everyone who has been following the development of Darkfall that the game has been feature complete and ready for launch since at least December, if not earlier. If you are having problems getting the game, or any issues within the game then it is your fault, not Aventurines. The game's advanced AI has most probably determined that you, and your PC, are not up to the hardcore standards of the game.
Gosh! The game was most probably so feature complete and ready for launch back in December that they had to delay the release and create server stability and sync issues so that they wouldn't get sued for people's faces being melted off by the game's awesomeness.

I disagree. The DF world is large and empty. It has large structures and buildings that serve no actual purpose other than to take up sapce.
The rouge system is easily exploitable and quite stupid.
The PvP sucks because combat in general sucks. Few weapon powers, long long chases, and long long fights just are not enjoyable to me.
Full implementation of a poor siege system is nothing to brag about.
The UI is arachaic and trash. I can't take anyone seriously who says otherwise. It's just bad.
The game's advanced AI has most probably determined that you, and your PC, are not up to the hardcore standards of the game.
Agreed. One thing I noticed is that the mobs lock on to you from much farther away, which a lot of people who play games like WoW are not used to. No running around picking flowers so you can make pink dye for your armor, pansy!
Also, mobs don't stay in one place, like most MMOs. They run around you, back up to get more tactical advantage, among other things. People used to pushing the same hotbutton sequence to kill each and every mob are going to hate DF...and of course, whine about it.
I am amazed that people are defending the piss poor AI of Darkfall, the horrendous graphics (the world graphics are only OKAY, they aren't great), or the missing of the launch date (nobody could play on the day of the launch, which means they MISSED IT). Oh, and the combat is horrendous and bland.
It has it's plusses, but I think once the honeymoon period ends, people will leave in droves. It's not enough content there to keep people engaged for the long term. We'll see if I am right.

yes yes we know the game is crap because mobs dont stand right in front of you and fall to their knees to yeild their loot in .05 seconds and because it takes time and skill to actually kill other players. Dont play the game then you noob bastard. Hello kitty probably be a much better title for you. Like I stated in another post ,seems like the troll population is shrinking as more trolls get to order the game. soon it will only be the few the shitty the true df forum trolls and not just disgruntled DF fans that couldnt get in, like most of these are now.
Eh, I leveled to 80 without going through all the zones in AoC. I say its sandbox because there is player driven content outside of the PvE such as sieging and guild wars.
Player driven content does not automatically equal sandbox. And its funny you said "guild wars". You realize there is a 'MMO' called Guild Wars, and its about all you do is guild wars and its probably the most linear game out there? I don't know, I just found that really funny how those two things correlated. And WAR has seiging, and it is right up there with most of the most linear MMOs out right now. Possibility the only game more linear is ... dare I say... AoC.

Very few bugs? Are you kidding me? L O L!
yes yes we know the game is crap because mobs dont stand right in front of you and fall to their knees to yeild their loot in .05 seconds and because it takes time and skill to actually kill other players.
The mob ai is nothing special. Typically the mob will stand right in front of you till its at low health then it will simply start running in circles with no real rhyme or reason or purpose while you hack at the mob's back. This is not earth shattering or fun or revolutionary or difficult. It's just annoying. Further, most mobs can not even be solo'd in DFO without annoying amounts of kiting and pots and food and arrows. It's quite silly.
PvP to me is not about downing pots, spamming mana to stam, and chasing people across entire zones because there is no real cc to speak of. Tom and Jerry PvP is simply not fun.
And this talk about population is laughable. DF probably has less than 5k active accounts. That is a miniscule pop. Most MMO's that actually launch have upwards of 200,000 accounts easily. DFO is essentially running a pay to play beta which would actually be fine if they would simply admit it and stop calling this some kind of release or launch.
all those things are trivial when compared to alternative boring theme park games ...where every new one is a rehash of a rehash.
There is nothing wrong with theme park games. If you want a sand box game then go play Shadowbane (free and better than DFO) or AoC (also better than DFO).
yeah theres nothing wrong with them.
but the killjoy for me is i played uo and got a taste of sandbox gaming ...ive been playing mmorpg for along time ... it seems like every game since eq has tried to copy the same formula .
i tried shadowbane back in the day it was buggy as all hell lol, i wouldn't try it now because with free to play games "you usually get what you pay for"
aoc isn't really a sandbox mmo and i had purchased anarchy online in the past and had decided i wouldn't buy another game from funcom after all the crap i went threw with that game.
AoC.
I never ever mentioned "Guild War's" the game rather I am talking about the fact that in AoC you war with othe guilds, siege their towns, etc. AoC has sieging of player created cities that take a large amount of time and resources to build. I am not quite sure WAR has sieging of player created cities.
Whatever the case, whether AoC is a sandbox or not has nothing to do with this thread. If it is, fine. If it is not, fine.
The point of this thread is that DFO is simply horrible and little or no redeeming qualities. Stay on topic kids.

im gonna get this game when i can because its the type of game i want to play even with all the problems .
it has a small dev team like 5 people...so i understand 99% of what they are going though and will wait for my chance to get in.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Next excuse?

Wow, nice big list. Of course, all of it is speculation and opinion.
Next time try listing facutal information that can be proven if you want to have a discussion with the adults on this forum. All you'll get out of this is fanboys and haters posting immature one-liners.
Good luck with that.
You win the thread as usual Thanks.

Threads like these are a bloody joke.
Indeed, who am I to question Tasos The Great!

In your completely subjective opinion, which you have a right to.
