Tax Season Upgrades:-)

TechleoTechleo Member Posts: 1,984

Well the time has come for me to make my mandatory tax season computer upgrades. Every few years I grab one of my older pc's from the den and upgrade it into something I can give away.

This year I have as follows to work with:

Old case, decent fan system with a 650watt PSU, a Ati x1800XL 512mb graphics card and a vista 64 installed harddrive someone gave me. If I were to replace the ancient motherboard, ram and cpu Id like some ideas what to get in the 480 dollar range.

Right now Im planning on a:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45T-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBPI

This should give me more then a decent little rig for 402 dollars at newegg. Thats without rebates. I loathe mail in rebates to the bottom of my soul!

Anyone else have some recommendations?

Ouch! Its amazing how much college costs. Go to the 2nd world countries, get the same education for 1/10th the cost. They accept the credintials in America. Id recommend Taiwan or the Philippines. In anycase I was asking more along the lines of what other parts could I get for a equivalent price. Im sorta surprised no one gave any ideas. First time I made a post and it took that long just for one post hehe.

You guys and gals have ANY ideas?
