Part of the image gallery over at Spellborn are images made by players during closed beta, not touched up and not staged by Spellborn. It is clear you don't like Spellborn, but there is no need to tell obvious lies. It makes you look like you are campaigning against the game.

second that. Almost all the latest series of screenshots were made by beta testers. After each update the developers picked some of the screenshots and added them to the official gallery.

Of course I played both games and I know what I'm talking about. Go read DF forums. You'll see hundreds of posts where fans defend their game by telling "graphics is not important, its all about gameplay". Then go read Spellborn forums and you'll see how people admire graphic style and atmosphere of that game.

    Yeah

I may not be Mr. Technology but I can look at a screen and see animations and compare a game.  I play with a 28 inch widesreen Dell monitor and although it is not a movie screen it is plenty good enough. My expererience tells me  to believe my own eyes.I am a consumer (thank God) and  My eyes tell me thumbs up for Spellborn.

Good thing the consumer is always right and always smart. The dumb consumer stereotype definately has no truth to it... oh wait it does. You are entitled to your opinion however.

Fact is, i was looking forward to spellborn, loved the videos, the screenshots, the idea behind the game. Then i actually went out and played it, to say I was dissapointed at the low lvl of quality was an understatement. It felt like loading up one of those cheap f2p korean mmorpgs you find all over the net. I wish the devs all the bit of luck with this title, but i wont pretend its not as bad as it really is. Its that simpe. If you are having fun in the game, then good for you.

btw if you are using a 28inch flatscreen tv with hdmi or dvi ports, even a pc input, the resolution and quality has got to be pretty low.

You played to level 5 which means that you completed the tutorial, fought about 5 bears, 5 wolves, and one rabid dog. You never found the second zone, fought humanoid opponents, probably didn't even use abilities from your main class (if you even trained your main class), didn't modify your deck much. Yet you feel like you saw enough to have some very critical opinions of the game.

Wait, what was that you're saying about dumb consumer stereotypes? I think that's the smartest thing you've said in this thread.

lol 1. its interior with over use of BLOOM, 2. its a tiny pic, give a full screen resolution sized picture. 3. the graphics dont magically change as you go farther into the game, most of what you see is are flat surfaces with cartoon textures painted onto them, which is no surprise given the style of mmo. 4. The character models wont change magically either, i noticed you went bald because the hair in the game is horrible and only a few options are given. You also have the noobie armor that they give you right off the bat, meaning everyone looks that way unless they choose not to wear it, only a few of the choices you pick at character creation look halfway decent.

Just do what I did, use a proxy website and sign up at the EU website, then play the game. No point in waiting to try the game if its already out in english with an international version.

I am from the UK though. I've signed up and on "My Account" info it has Spellborn "Pending". The client is up to date too.

    1. I have exterior shots that look just as good. What does it matter that it is interior or exterior? I didn't know we were only talking about l33t outdoors graphics. I know what bloom is thank you for the caps.

    2. A full resolution quality picture is slightly to large, and I have no idea how to scale it down well. That is what imageshack let me do.

3 Why would the graphics magically change? Those flat surfaces have great artwork, who cares. They did a heck of alot with what they had it seems. Sure enough it still looks better than Darkfall.

    4. I didn't think the hair was bad honestly. Could use more options though. I chose the bald guy because he had symbols shaved into his head. I thought it looked cool on that character. I also have a character with longer hair if you want to see that?

No shit I am wearing the newbie armor. What the fuck are you going on about? The game has about a billion clothing options as you lvl. Are you expecting giant shoulderpads ala wow at lvl 1? Perhaps angel wings and flaming fire balls with twinkle stars because you finished the lvl 2 newbie quest?

Just a few SS I found around the web that look nice...

They are not full rez, but do show some of the game's excellent art style.

    These were taken from here.

Some screenshots I have laying around :

There are hundred-thousands of combinations of different weapons with different armors with different colors and you can choose to have like one pauldron on the right none on the left or a different one on the left etc. The customization in this game is very very humongous not to mention you get different armor sets/weapons later on I believe.

As far as everything else you said all I can say is give it another try play until level 5~7 and pvp a little bit in the mosh pit...maybe you'll see what everyone else has been seeing in this game and see what kind of potential this game has once we are able to pay for it and get the pvp objectives/more instances/etc.

I finally managed to play for a little last night and bumped everything graphically on max and it looks very nice.

I'd also like to add that the scrolling skill deck is very, "fresh".  I can't make any further evaluation until i've at least reached the f2p cap. Which will probably be tonight!

Yeah I must say that the scrolling skill deck was indeed refreshing. Could be bit frustrating in beginning as you need to get used to it.

But after that it works like a charm when you get the hang of it and arranged your skills to your liking.

The scroll and skill deck layout along with states and attributes is just so much of a breath of fresh air for mmorpg's. Adds great depth, strategy, and planning to master your class in realtionship to your play style   in combat.

I'm currently on the international PvE server to get to grips with the game. Have a level 5 Skinshifter at the moment.

I'm finding it somewhat difficult to both trying to avoid mobs attacking and using the skill deck at the same time. I know I can use the mousewheel to select skills (which I thought was absolute genius) but I find it somewhat a little slower than hitting the 1/2/3 button (i know it's button mashing but I find it a little more responsive).

So it's a bit of a dilema since from what i've been reading bearing the brunt of a "Young Bear" attacking you isn't the best way to go about it - you need to actively evade the attacks (which i've been 50% succesful on atm).

I do have a few questions I can't seem to find an answer to at the moment.

I know it's cliché, but can/when can a single rogue archtype dual wield? Or is this limited to the Warrior archtype?

I also have not found a use the Brigand and Wolf shapeshifting yet - is there any?

I  like the whole gear thing. And the customisation options for it. There also appears to be a bug for dyeing your armor which i'm trying to report at the moment.

All in all "different" is a nice word to describe the game so far - but it has a fresh feeling to it. I don't think it will appeal to the masses since I think some people will get annoyed that thier action bar doesn't stay still in combat ;) ( I can just see the moans!) :)

All in all I enjoy it. I'm going to try all the different classes to the F2P cap, then decide if I really want to carry it on.

I think it's a must to at least try.

The mouse wheel takes some getting used to. My first time with it didn't end well ;P But now it is getting much easier and ends up being faster.

The shapes you use change your faction with various mobs, makes questing and travel vastly easier outside of the newbie zone apparently. They have said they plan on adding more forms as well, so dont let only having a few stop you from liking the class.

Since there is no auto attack dual wield is just a for looks thing. So i would imagine they probably have it. Though I am not sure honeslyl.

Glad you are enjoying the game. US version shouldn't be far off.

  • Vagrant_ZeroVagrant_Zero Member Posts: 1,190

There's no DW. It wouldn't look right since there's no auto-attacks.

DOn't lie to make a point.

Darkfall has better graphics in terms of reflective lighting, water effects and their most up to date armor models.

They would also be better in terms of shadows but it's such a huge resource hog barely anyone uses it because it cripples them in pvp too much even with machines made and purchased in the last 6 months.

Spellborn is better than Darkfall in terms of particle effects. Also on average has better textures and models because the majority of Darkfall's graphics were made at a time before they got their act together to make something better than Spellborn graphically.

Technically Darkfall has a higher ceiling for utilizing your graphics card but the end result is crappier visual spectacle.

So it's irrelevant if in Darkfall there are moments where Darkfall is clearly better than Spellborn graphically when the leadership that determined how those graphics were used led to an inferior visual experience.

FYI those screenshots on Spellborn aren't touched up. They are attainable with an ATI Radeon Xpress integrated card and an overclocked AMD CPU with the help of 2GB of RAM and I averaged ~20 fps during beta.

My screenshots are the highest settings I believe, though I had to make it lower after I took them since my CPU is crap (2.4ghz amd athlon 3800+) but I'm getting a 7750 amd x2 2.7ghz soon so all will be well...my graphics card is geforce 9800 gt XXX though and 3gb of ram so I only get around 15 FPS while I'm pvping on highest...though now I get around 30 on lowest.

I find spellborns graphics way more suiting for the the game itself, the game is based in a completely fantasy world so it's nice and sort of gloomy/magical...it suits very well.

Darkfall's is a bit more grittier and dark...though I don't know how darkfall entered the conversation lol
