I don't hate this game, i actually really like it, i'm not sitting here telling people that you shouldn't play it, or you shouldn't download it, but this is just a little cautionary advise that i'm giving out.

The most recent patches that have came out are causing major problems to clients and to the game in general. People are experiencing graphical errors, client hang times and my personal experience; total system reboots.

The problem is that frogster has NO IDEA what is going on. I've sent e-mails to them back and forth until they just sent me an automatic response saying they don't know what the problem is. I know this is still in open beta, so problems are always existant, but i'm just letting people know now to just be aware when you download it.

This problem seems to exist mainly on XP computers, and vista run computers are not having as much of a problem, but are still receiving them.

So again, download at your own risk, because you might not be able to play the game until "launch" or the next new patches.

Thank you for listening

EDIT: some people are having these problems, mostly are XP users. Apparently i'm trolling, but i'm actually not, nor am i lying, thank you for your time to those who read this, and hope you enjoy the game.

Wierd, I been running it on XP with very little problems. The one thing that has happened to me maybe 2 patches ago was sometimes when I go into the game, the sounds of fighting have a popping sound in them. I have had that and graphical problems like that in other mainstream games and the solution for me as I run a duel core system has always been to set the affinity to run off of 1 core. Sometimes it runs fine on both, the only time I know its having an issue is if I get into a fight and hear the popping sounds so I just alt tab out and set the affinity to run off core 0 and tab back into the game and it runs perfectly fine then. To this day, eq2 did this to me except it was worse, sometimes when I went into the game everything would be super slow or super fast, meaning I could run across a zone in a matter of seconds and people would just see me blipping along. With eq2 however, affinity would have to be set before the game actually came on the screen and even then it may or may not work. I used to have to launch it as many as 4 or 5 times before it launched properly. Other people reported that exact same problem and they never did recognize it or ever try to help. I was always afraid I would get banned because they would think I was speed hacking or something.

If you have a duel core system, you may want to try that and see if it fixes your problem.

i'm actually running a single core, i've played with all my options on my card and it just refuses to work. I don't know about the popping sound, but from what i saw on their tech support forum, alot of people are having graphical errors, but are running good to top of the line cards and having these troubles. It might have to do with the patches, and i think this weeks patch might HOPEFULLY work out for me, or not, i guess time will tell.

I haven't experienced any graphical issues.

I'm running maximum settings on Vista 32bit with a GeForce 8800 GTS, 4 GB of RAM (32 bit limit in effect), Intel quad-core CPU.

    What "major problems"?

If this was true, then the offical forums would be full of threads and posts about it, especially right after each patch. That is not the case.

I have played this game for dozens of hours. So have several of my friends. The only "major" problem any of us have encountered, is lag issues. (Extreme latency/ping is a known one.) And this haven't occured often for any of us.

RoM has it's problems, but there's no need to exaggerate.

Btw, I'm  no fanboy in denial, I think I've already proved that in this forum section.

*facepalm* dude, read my post, i stated that SOME, not all, SOME are having problems with the game. If you look at the European forums (which i'm on and i take your not) then you would see that people are having problems with logging in, their client not working and a few are restarting just like myself.

And i don't know why your calling my a "fanboi". I havn't fanboyed about anything, i'm just giving out a friendly warning to those who have came across this game on the list and wanted to check it out i'm not spewing out stuff like "ZOMG DA GAME IS HAXXORZ NEVA PLAI IT LOLOLOLOLOL" or "WOW IS DA SHITTTORZ AND DIS GAME WIP OFF NEVA PLAI IT LOLOLOLOL!!!111!!one!!eleven"

So yea, read before you type dude, i'm glad your just having lag and thats it and thanks for defending me out here doomsday

    What?

Take your own advice, and read your own post - the word "SOME" does not exist in it!

And I never called you a fanboy, I said I'm not one.

You went straight from trolling to downright lying. Pathetic.

  • reploidxreploidx Member UncommonPosts: 320

what the hell am i lying about and how was i trolling in the first part, i am only telling people that "Hey, your computer might not like RoM, i'm not stopping you, just letting you know." i'm not demanding people to not download the game. I'm glad your only getting lag, really, i am. My computer is hating on RoM something fierce and i can't play it atm. Again, if you read my post, i said that i like Runes and really enjoy it, but i'm giving out FRIENDLY advice, so your only trolling me telling me that i'm trolling.

so to all people who read this I"M NOT TELLING YOU OR DEMANDING YOU TO NOT PLAY THIS GAME, I'M JUST BEING NICE (since most people think that when someone posts a thread here they automatically think they are being a douche but i'm not) AND LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE PATCH FILES AND IT MIGHT, I REPEAT, MIGHT NOT WORK ON XP PC's. GO AHEAD AND DOWNLOAD THE GAME AND SEE IF IT WORKS OUT, THIS IS A GOOD F2P GAME AND SHOULD BE CHECKED OUT, BUT SO FAR THE PATCHES LEADING TO THE LAUNCH ARE MESSING UP, BUT THAT IS USUALLY NORMAL IN AN BETA/LAUNCH UNTIL BUGS ARE FIXED.

SO AGAIN, I"M NOT TROLLING THESE FORUMS, I"M BEING A GOOD SAMARITAN AND JUST LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THERE COULD POSSIBLY BE A PROBLEM.

    Thank you

Also, update on my part, whiping the whole drive does not help, i still experience full system reboots, and i'll be redownloading the game when its launched (or next patch, which ever i feel like at the time) to see if it works.

I told you what you were lying about. Learn to read.

What you really try to "tell" ppl, is "this game will mess up your PC", and that's another lie.

Not liking the game, that's ok. I'm far from it's biggest fan. But lies after lies to turn ppl away from it, that's just sad.

I don't know why you keep trying to pick a fight with me, i'm not turning people away from the game, why do you have to be so thick headead about this. Since your telling me to read that i'm lying, you need to read what i'm stating, i really like this game and i want to play it, but i can't.

If i was going to be like the WoW trolls, i would of told people "This game sucks, it keeps restarting my computer" I'm sure someone will read this thread, look it over and say "I'm going to heed this person's advice and try it." And if it does something, then they can sit there and go "Hey, that person was right, oh well."

Or people can say "I'm not going to download this game, but i'll check out the forums to see whats going on" or "I'm not going to try this game out, perhaps i'll wait"

I never said "This game eats your PC NOM NOM NOM" i'm saying "The game seems to have problems more with XP than Vista"

Some just posted that their Vista ran PC works, and good for him/her.

I have not posted "Do not play" on any of this, but you seem to keep twisting my words around and slapping a big ol tag on me saying I'm leading people to believe not to play the game.

So i'll state again PLAY THE DAMN GAME PEOPLE, JUST BEWARE THAT THE GAME MIGHT NOT WORK FOR XP USERS

    http://forum.runesofmagic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=238  (copy/pasta)

Here is the link to the Technical Issues Forum of the European servers and you'll see for yourself that people are having problems and there is no technical people to...well, support us.

I'm not lying, your only thinking i'm lying. I appreciate your zeal for the game, and i'm not trying to hurt it, i'm only trying to help, why must you think i'm doing otherwise?

EDIT: And to show you this, you are accusing me of telling people that its going to eat their PCs up when you quoted me the first time i stated "The most recent patches that have came out are causing major problems to clients and to the game in general." So tell me in that sentence when did i say that PCs will be destroyed

  • reploidxreploidx Member UncommonPosts: 320

    Bump Update:

This weeks patch is supposed to help hardware performance for the game. Meaning if you are having troubles with the client (like myself) this might and i repeat MIGHT fix things. I'm hoping it does because i want to get back to playing.

(It says its for the European server side, so those who play on the European servers will be getting the fix, not american servers)

ok everyone, problem has been fixed, i hope for everyone, but its fixed my dilemma.

Go to the config files in the runes of magic folder and copy/paste this into the files

    [display]

    windowed width=1024

    windowed height=768

    fullscreen width=1834

    fullscreen height=1032

windowed mode=1 (This is the value i changed. A "0" denotes windowed mode OFF, while a "1" denotes windowed mode on.)

    ui scale mode=0

    ui scale=1.000000

    [visual detail]

    view distance=3500.000000

    terrain detail class=3

    texture detail=4

    shadow detail=3

    splat detail=3

    terrain shader detail=2

    sky detail=1

    [character detail]

    paperdoll detail=0

    [visual effects]

    bloom=1

    water reflection=1

    water refraction=1

    distort fx=1

    specular highlight=1

    [audio]

    master volume=1.000000

    ambience volume=0.300000

    music volume=0.400000

    sound fx volume=1.000000

    interface sfx volume=1.000000

go to where your Runes of Magic folder and to the client.config and add that and graphical errors should be fixed. People on the game are saying there is an error in the code that messes the game up during full screen.

So no longer Beware people, you may now enjoy the game knowing what is causing the problem

DO NOT cut and paste this in, just change the value he did. If you paste this in and your screen doesn't support the resolutions he has plugged in it could mess your client up, at least till you go in and manually put in correct settings.

I didn't do it but just a quick glance at it tells me there are settings in there that you shouldn't alter w/o knowing what your min/maxes in those areas are.

sorry that i said copy/paste. Though most of it is the same just the part that i said to change. So yea, if you guys need to just make the 1 a 0 and fix what you can in window mode. The Frogster team knows what is going on and are letting the programmers know about it

go to My Computer> C: drive> wherever you have your Runes of Magic folder

and in there you'll see Client.config

if you don't have it, i suggest either doing a file search for it, or redownloading the game
