Gaming Keyboard

stawrstawr Member Posts: 15

I'm not sure if what I'm looking for even exists, but I was hoping that I've just been looking in the wrong places for it. I'm looking for a keyboard with number pads on both sides of the keyboard, and I'm not talking about an external number pad or some weird hand-cradle thing. I'm looking for something more like the Logitech G11, but with just numbers instead of f-keys. I know that there are funky keyboards with circular-like number pads and whatever, but I'm really looking to keep it simple, wireless, and illuminated homefully.

i'm using a G15 right now and it has 6 extra kets with 3 preset options that are easy to flick between and programmable keys.  I have not really seen any other decent gaming keyboards in my local area but i can tell you the G15 is pretty sweet.

as for wireless and gaming, its a love hate relationship.  Wrieless keyboards and mice tend to have issues with latency when gaming and i can tell you its a major pain to have to charge/change batteries in the middle of a TF2 match.

ive just bought myself a new xkeys pro 56key pad, it takes a while to set up but the pad is fairly responsive and the buttons feel nice. its fairly well programmable. the only thing is thus far i havnt found out how to do a more reliable arrow key setup but in pve its not really that important. an added bonus is the key have a litle liftable clear cap under which you can put icons or symbols/skills, personally i printed out warlock skills and a few numbers/macro names for raid explanations

its serving me well so far and feels durable

i myself use Zboard Merc, with two pads on the sides, one on the left for gaming, (enlarged WSAD keys, ergonomical, curved design) and normal number pad on the right

microsoft sidewinder x6 might be the one youre looking for, with detachable number pad that u can install on both sides of the keyboard

I was using the origiona 1st gen G15 with the flipup panel. But I spilt pop and it shortcircuited causing the keys to go crazy and open every file including HD, and deleting them while I slept. So I now use some crappy keyboard that cant even lock the windows key.

The Logitech G-Series is probably what you're looking for, I just personally hate how bulky and the general design of them. I personally perfer my Razer Lycosa Mirror Edition anyday. Glassy surface, keys don't feel cheap, good response, touch screen panel (that works when it wants to), lacks the macro keys (that I personally never used), but about everything I have is Razer, so, there you go.

Well I'll be building my sexy dream gamer computer ready for summer (fingers crossed) and decided a gaming keyboard is a must. My main desire was programmable keys for macroing, I'll be going for a G15. I need macroing if I'm going to play an MMORPG as let's face it they all have tedious grindy moments (or hours), the G15 will make my gaming experience alot more relaxing.

The only downside is it only has usb 1.1 ports, unless that's been upgraded?

Most gaming keyboards have programmable keys, just not like 18 of them set off to the left of the keyboard. Anyways, if you're ging to bother going with the Logitech G series, go for the newest one, they got the G-19 out.

While I think the keyboard built-in screen display upgrade to an LCD is a bit over-the-top with offering video playback and shit on it, the overall upgrades are nice and well worth it.

    My xkeys unit - http://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xkpro.php

    128 button version - http://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xk12884.php

every single key is prgrammable/macroable works great. this is the only step below the optimus maximus keyboard there is!

also been using mine for about a month now, no regrets at all brilliant piece of hardware only downside could only find a 128key seller in the UK tho it should be no problem in the USA

I was never a fan of the Logitech G series keyboards. Just something about them I just never liked. Personally I prefer the Ideazon line of keyboards and gaming pads. I use the Merc while my girlfriend uses a Fang keypad.

I've used the G11 and G15, and about 6 months ago I bought the Razer Lycosa. I have to say I think the Lycosa is the best gaming keyboard out there. Literally every single key on the keyboard can be programmed. If that's not enough, there are 10 profiles to scroll through on-the-fly. Each profile can have EVERY key mapped to a specific function. And if that's STILL not enough, you can program the keyboard to automatically load a specific profile based on the program you're running. In other words, you can tell it to load Profile 1 (which you can name however you want) any time you load "X" game.

The possibilities with the Lycosa are staggering. I looked at every keyboard out there before settling on the Lycosa, and I know I made the right choice. If you're into shortcuts, hotkeys, and macros, I'm confident enough to say that I guarantee you'll love the Lycosa.

The point of gaming keyboards is generally to allow more simultaneous key presses at a time, greater response time and tacticle feel, and a more gaming-friendly layout. Looking pretty is ancillary.

Thanks much for all the feedback. xkeys looks pretty nice, but I don't really have the patience for it. The Razer Lycosa has all the features mine has now, although it looks shiney and costs about $50 more. I think I'm gonna go with either the zboard or G19.
